I’m trying to understand if this is a common issue amongst the community, or it is just me… which is likely is. lol
the 1st few months of TWW were great. Xal’atath was evil… the story with the Nerubians was good. Lots of Warcraft style lore and story telling.
Man has that seemed to fall off in recent months. Isle and now goblins. it really slammed the brakes of the story as we started the xpac with.
Maybe it’s the flow that I’m having most issue with. I’m not sure. But man, it’s really taken the wind out of my sails to play.

yes it’s quite terrible if i do say so myself.

I think you’d find a lot of people who disagree with that.

Just because you don’t like or even follow the story doesn’t mean it’s bad.

thinking about it this morning. I’ve gone from:
“Xal’atath is the best villian since Arthas”
to now…
Hear I am trying to figure out when was the last time I saw a meaningful appearance from her?
The Gallywax cinematic was rough.

She was at the end of nerub’ar and near the end of the undermine quest. You forget the feedback they got a lot during Wrath was that Arthas appeared so much, he became a joke. No one took him seriously.

Your asking if the story has fallen off? You do know Shadowlands was a thing right??

I’m not even sure I can say it’s “bad” to be honest. Writing this out with you all, maybe it’s the structure and flow that I’m having a hard time with.
Maybe I think it’s bad. LOL… thanks for having this discussion with me to figure this out

Earthern, nerubians, xalatath, goblins, with the thinnest connection to all of it ive seen in awhile. Are the Earthen even in the story anymore?
They were a box feature.

Ya… I forgot all about the Earthen. LOL good add.
I forgot, are we helping them? what exactly is going on there.

What story? Anduin sobbing to paladin knight lady all day? Purple girl losing her jewelry? Alleria having a mid life crisis? Nerubians being wiped out? Goblins deciding they have a conscious?
hehehheehe sure
only an idiot thinks this story is good, or someone whose never read a book in their life

To me, they’ve never figured out how to tell a story in this medium. Getting a lot of story up front when the expansion releases, followed by months of nothing until a patch releases and you get a few minutes of video, followed by several more months of nothing. The pacing just doesn’t work for me.

ya… I kinda glossed over the leveling story with those two. Alleria’s isn’t too bad. But even that has fizzled out to nothing of note in Undermine it felt.

The goblins are free to make lots of kaja kola without being oppressed by one evil goblin despite their whole race being exploitative anyway lol
way worse than fear the walking dead writing

that’s an excellent point. Pacing is a great word for it.

I don’t think it is possible to tell a good story in a MMO, the medium just doesn’t work for that. What MMOs can do is world build, and show all the potentially interesting side stuff.

I would say the story took a hard left, only barely touching the Xalatath/DarkHeart/Void/BlackBlood storyline, putting on the brakes in favor of the Liberation of Undermine side story.
Nightfall will be a full return to the main storyline.
In all fairness, it’s fallen off many expansions ago…
My biggest issue is overall it feels very bland and sterile. The characters typically involved also have too much emphasis on Alliance heroes. Need to bring back some OG Horde characters… it’s uninteresting when it’s so one-sided. (For the record, I play both factions.)

Xal “haha I am evil and you’re fools who never know my plans”
Great story

TBF, that’s a low bar.
If you need a good story go read a book. There are a couple good video game stories out there , but I havent seen a really good one in an MMO.
