People can jump into vanilla WoW and do some quests for 30 minutes also.
DF has way more imposing start-up costs for new players.

There were MOBAs and shooters during vanilla->WOTLK also, or did you forget? WoW was more popular than basically every shooter at it’s peak.
MOBAs have existed since WC3 custom maps. That didn’t stop people from moving to WoW.
And accomplish nothing
In 30 min in LoL you win/lose a whole game, or in Fortnite you get your chicken dinner and run.
In wow 30 min is the time it takes to get from point A to point B

No, that’s a false assumption. They were always popular. The change is that WoW used to be popular and now it isn’t, due to their poor design decisions.

And as a cherry on the top, MC wasn’t even difficult back in the day. The “difficulty” came almost ENTIRELY from trying to get 40 people attuned and fire resist for tanks.
