Has blizzard broken everything for Linux users?

So I’ve minimized my blizzard games to just WoW, since that’s pretty much the only thing on the app that I play.

Before I uninstalled Rumble, I kept trying to update it for the last couple weeks. Every single time I’d get the error “Something went wrong” with the error code BLZBNTAGT00000840. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, same thing. So I just uninstalled permanently.

Tried installing Diablo II Resurrected, same issue.

Now WoW is doing the same thing. All of my addons are up to date, Linux is up to date, battlenet app is up to date. I’ve tried everything short of uninstalling WoW to try it again, which I’m not going to try since last time I did that I lost every bit of addon information and had to restart completely from scratch, plus it didn’t help me with anything else.

I stopped playing while the massive error with literally everything but movement is still going, and now I’m completely unable to play at all.

Is anyone else having similar issues? Has blizz said anything about this that I haven’t been able to find?

Maybe try posting it here. You might have better luck:

also blizzard doesnt support linux os officially.

I had this issue, this thread straightened me out

The other day I Switched to ge-proton wine (not the ubuntu default) and it worked. Today it broke and I tried proton-experimental and that worked, so maybe try changing the wine version (at least on lutris/ubuntu).

Usually you don’t need to reinstall wow, there is a way to fix it. Or at least backup your old copy if you do and keep your addon folders/dbs, etc. I’ve found that I can usually clean it up somehow

My brother in law works in IT, he tried to help with this while I was at work, and is also the reason I have Linux on my computer in the first place. Tried reinstalling the app and no version of bottles will work with it. Thank you for the advice, I’m gonna try putting this on the tech support section, hopefully blizzard can figure something out soon, I don’t want to cancel my sub right now, but there’s no point in paying for a game that I can’t play.

I haven’t played WOW on linux for years. Is there still a memory leak issue with it? I always had that problem where my game would eventually crash due to it. I changed to windows when Overwatch first came out (Linux couldn’t run that game at all at the time), so a lot may have changed.

tbh i wouldnt hold out hope. blizzard official doesnt support it. if your linux distro isnt working with it its likely blizzard doesnt support it. linux has quite a low market share and is likely very low on their priority list. to be frank. if your gaming on linux consider the ability to play aaa games on linux a bonus still as like macs they still play second fiddle to windows. unfortunately this means that execs and shareholders likely dont consider linux a profitable os to market to.
