Has anyone switched from a 5800x to a 5800x3d? how large of a performance jump was it?

Its on the actual board on the one I linked you.

Maybe that’s the way to go then

I was going to recommend used b550i and get a 5800x3d, but it seems like everyone is hunting for the strix b550i right now.

I honestly don’t see a giant leap for the 7x00x3d. It’ll probably be more power efficient but I don’t see any major uplifts.

Literally compare the specs of the two boards. Unless you are manually OCing that 7700X3D to heck with a custom waterloop? The x670E is a waste of money compared.

The ASUS ROG Strix B650E-I Gaming WiFi 6E has all you need. The VRMs are more than adequate

Just trying to save you some $$

Appreciate it. Might be the way to go. I’ll do some testing to compare the two systems if I wind up upgrading

This ^^.
The 7kX3D models are going to be nice but for World of Warcraft your end consumer experience is going to cap at a 5800X3D probably. Who care at the difference between 500fps and 600fps?

Its not about that. If you are currently on AM4? Then then 5800x3d makes 100% since. If your not and you are doing a brand new build? AM4 is a pretty bad investment atm because its a dead platform. AM5 makes much more since to someone doing a new build. So for the OP it makes since since they are on Am4. For Griefs it doesnt

For a lot of people especially people doing a new build even though actual future proofing is a myth and doesnt exist; to a small degree it can. AM4 is a dead platform just like Z690 and z790 from intel. AM5 is a brand new and still has 2-3 more generations of cpus left. So even if the 7900x3d is not a huge uplift? Skip it becuase we know 8000 series WILL be. When that drops next year? Hes ready. Slap it in and good to go.

Keep in mind all the things I mentioned above. Its a good thing to keep in mind. At the moment AM5 is a good investment since it has 2-3 more generations left

Yeah there’s 0 chance I’d buy into AM4 now. If I do decide to upgrade, it will be a new X3D CPU and the AM5 board you recommended. Thanks for the advice!

If you want the ultimate cutting edge without breaking your wallet you can try the motherboard I have. The moment you pick it up you can tell its a quality product and its almost 7lbs. Yes 7lbs! Its about pricy but doesnt break the bank you are basically paying more for quality. I have it my self an do not regret buying it at all! In the past the ROG Hero use to be the best but now it just doesnt bring anything more to the table to justify the cost. I wanted a motherboard that would last me the entire life of the AM5 socket. Was willing to pay more to have that. This one was actually better than the intel variant as stated in the video. Its also heavier by a lot.

Its a premium board. Just know that. Check it out

believe Griefs is on the sffpc train that some of us are on.

usually the itx crowd don’t have the same luxury. Example the Strix x570itx board was lack luster that the b550 version was just a better buy for most.

I will be honest I dont really follow the ITX trains and you are right the travel down sperate tracks. Every ITX case I have seen looks jam packed “cramped”. I just cant do it. I need a Large mid tower to full size tower to function. Not to mention airflow.

Solid point. I should probably step back from saying anything about ITX builds because I just dont ride those trains. When I use to build gaming PCs for a living before I retired from my shop I would refuse to work on ITX builds because I always felt “limited” in every aspect of the build

AM4, AM5 or LGA 1700 is not the point. The point is performance. AMD and Intel skirted around even mentioning the 5800X3D in comparing their newest CPUs. The 5800X3D was just that much better at gaming vs current AM5 CPUs.

Windows desktop afaik is still missing ccNuma support for higher end 7KX3D cpus. By the time these problems are fixed, might as well buy a new mobo with better DDR5 support. Getting 128GB of RAM OC speeds on current DDR5 boards is a pain for example.

I’m not saying AM5 is a bad. Just the current hard’s situation. Next rev mobos will probably be more attractive.

Just bought mine - and all I can say is WoW - it is night and day quite literally. I am getting so many more FPS in raids and high pop situations.

Just wanted to add to this pile… I have a Nvidia 3080 founders, 32GB RAM and an ultrawide monitor running at 3440X1440. Went from the 5800x to the 58003dx and there is a MASSIVE difference on the bottom end. I used to get like 25fps in Valdrakken (while flying or moving around) now I’m getting 50-60.

So, the top end didn’t change (still runs great out in the world) but crowded areas and raids it no longer looks like a slideshow… much smoother overall gameplay experience and worth the $$ especially if you play a lot of WoW!

This is important to note.
Most people who test griffin rides give us a datapoint but a griffin ride is not the same as say Ashran.

Id say something else is going on with your 5800x. I had a 10850k(stock) and it was usually in the 40s average. Seeing similar results with the switch to 5800x3d

It won’t matter it it’s DDR5 or 4, it doesn’t matter the cache is going to be much faster. IMO you made the right decision.

Ah see you get it :). There’s so many people with lopsided hardware and they don’t even realize it.

I upgraded from a 5800x to 5800x3d back in May of 2022. I benchmarked by running Black Temple from the entrance of Mother Shahraz’s room through Illidan. FPS capped at 162. Many addons such as ElvUI, tons of WeakAuras, Parrot, DBM, etc. I think the MinFPS on the 5800x3d spiked lower due to a larger pull in the 2nd run.

| |5800x|5800x3d|
|MinFPS|22|8|
|AvgFPS|92.62|129.18|
|99%FPS|56.28|71.82|
|Render Latency|4.2505|3.147|

might get a 5800x3d instead of the 7950x3d

dont have to buy new ram / mobo hmmm

oh come on

get the new new

you can always use the old parts for something else

at least that’s what I always tell myself :face_exhaling:
