Hardware build/question

Disclaimer I can NOT speak for the validity of this video.

After researching for a comparison video in WOW specifically most of last night for both myself (I was highly curious) and you I came across this.

7600x vs 7950x3d (at 4k) I know its not the 7800x3d but that should the exact same if not better due to the single CCD and no core parking. I just once again cant speak for the validity nor do I know how it will perform on a better GPU

This is 100% valid though. 1440p results. However this is on a 4090. I cant speak for a lower end GPU

Ok the saga is over, I got my system. I ended up making a trip down to my local Micro Center and they had some great sales on chips. I changed a few of my plans though.

I went with AMD like you said, but got the Ryzen 7 7700 . I thought about the “3d” or the “x” but honestly I wanted the lower temperature. It was also only $270 and came with a cooler which I will give to my son.

PSU I got the EVGA 750G . I only have a 3070 and have no desire to 4k game, so I didn’t need higher.

Case, I loved how the Fractal North BLK + Walnut looked, so I went with that.

The motherboard is the only thing I wasn’t sure about. Since I went back to full size ATX, I got the MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WF ATX. It was $219. I need to research if I want to keep this or buy something on Amazon.

x3d chips ironically will always be running cooler. Always. They are highly subjectable to voltages and heat. They rarely go over 80c however the 7700 has a peak of 95c. Just saying…

You still made a smart move imo. You can stick with the 7700 now and do a drop in upgrade to 8000 series next year. hell Im a gamer on the 7950x and the only reason Im on the 7950x is I got it on sale for $470. I was like how can I not buy this?

I’m waffling on using this case (looking at the size) or going with that Fractal Terra. Plus I can get away with not using an AOI (I got the NZXT…which is pretty, but would be hidden in the Terra anyways).

there is a lot of projecting going on in this thread, the 7700 is a fine chip for your set up. While the 7800X3D is a fantastic CPU and the current top dog gaming CPU, you need a flagship GPU and monitor to get the full benefit of the hardware’s performance. My personal advice for anyone building a PC is if you buy something you should be able to use it to its full benefits otherwise you are buying hardware to impress people and/or run some benchmarks. So the fact you are sticking with the RTX 3070 (which is a good GPU but hardly up to the performance of the modern high end cards out there) and I’m not sure of your monitor so I’ll go with the default 1080p 60hz than you probably would not see a real world difference with a CPU that has better performance than the 7700. With higher performance monitors and GPU’s, it becomes a different story but it all comes down to your personal desire.

People can play WoW at 1080p, mid settings, 60 FPS and have a total blast while someone can be playing the same game at 4k, full settings, 100 FPS+ and have a complete hissy fit every time FPS drops below 80 FPS…or vice versa.

I play at 1440p and I’m sure this chip will destroy wow along with the 3070. I ended up going with a mini itx case after all. The fractal terra is too sexy I had to get it.

I picked the Gigabyte b650i Aurus ultra. I did some research and apparently GiGa has some of the fastest boot ups currently.

For PSU I did the Corsair SF750. Most people building mini itx said it’s the best for small form factor…and I wasn’t about to cheep out on a PSU.

I also took the opportunity to get a Samsung M2 980 pro SSD. Microcenter had 2tb for 89 bucks

This is why there’s been a couple threads on Reddit talking about this CPU is a catch-22. Because everything you just said is 100% true and you do need a top of the line GPU to get the most out of it but once you move up to a 4090 you’re not gaming at 1440p anymore your gaming at 4K and then your choice of processor really doesn’t matter that much anymore. There’s next to no difference between a 7900X, 7700x and a 7800X3D at 4k

Everyone always forgets when looking at benchmarks that the reviewers are all on 4090s when comparing and 1440p results. Like I said nobody buys a 4090 for 1440p. Reviewers “TRY” to explain this to people. People on 4060, 4070, 3070 ect ect see that and think they will get his results. Its like no his rig is 100% set up to eliminate all bottlenecks so you just see raw CPU performance. Steve from gamers nexus has mentioned this several times. But people tune it out and only see his charts

Well the build is up and running. I was going to do a fresh install on my new SSD and use my current one with windows as my backup . I start it up, and it booted the old windows and everything is working perfectly. So I didn’t even have to install anything . Lol painless!!

I just optimized with Ryzen master and went into bios to set the ram speed to 6000.

The thing is insanely more fast than my last system and my last wasnt a slouch.

gratz!

i do recommend a clean install tho…
