I have to change my motherboard because I have an ATX and I’m going to go to Mini ITX
So I was really set on going going to Intel. A lot of people are saying stay with AMD though. I will say that I appreciate low temperatures and low power consumption so maybe I should give up on the i5 . Espically because a post on the bottom is saying it beats intel for wow. I do zero video rendering or other tasks. Just gaming web browsing and you tube with Microsoft word.
all the latest processor will run WoW just fine. you can nitpick all you want, but in general it doesn’t matter. the only thing is that you’ll be heat constrained.
your monitor do need beefier graphic card, which produce more heat. if you really want itx, gotta really pack it in right so airflow is good
to be honest, I’d say go with micro tax
I just wanted to say that posting Cinebench benchmarks is about the least helpful thing you could do for someone trying to decide which CPU will give them the best performance in WoW. Cinebench is a popular benchmark because it artifically loads down all of the cores in a way that you will almost never see in any real-world game, and certainly not in WoW. WoW rarely uses more than 4 cores, and most of the time it’s using 1-3 cores. For WoW, single-threaded performance is key. On top of that, the 3D cache is a HUGE variable. For some things (like Cinebench) it really doesn’t make much difference, but for other things (like WoW), the difference is epic. A 5800X3D will actually outperform your 7950X, and all other non-3D cache AM5 CPUs in WoW.
The 3D cache also has other advantages, such as reduced latency (less micro-stutter) due to having to fetch data from system RAM less often. This is a difference that isn’t shown in most simple benchmarks (like Cinebench), but when you perform further analysis, the difference is actually pretty eye opening. Example:

If OP wants to move to a newer platform, I’d recommend the 7800X3D, but being able to drop a 5800X3D into the existing motherboard would by far be the best bang-for-your-buck upgrade.
You keep saying to save the motherboard but I’m switching from ATX to ITX and giving my motherboard to my son in the Philippines.
I am trying to look up those chips though to educate myself. Because of the small form factor I want a cooler running chip is probably better.
I’m also wondering if I just return the 32gb ddr5 ram I bought for ddr4 so I can get a cheaper motherboard but I don’t know which ITX AMD motherboard I should be shopping for. I’d like the price under 250 bucks
Thats not why I posted it. I posted to illustrate my point of efficacy of the CPU and what it can do even when thermally limited. You point was taken though and I removed the image.
Ill try to stay more on focus with what the OP is looking for.
Watch some videos on AMD 7000 series ECO Mode.
After doing research, I think if I go AMD it would be the new AMD 7 series so it’s future proof, either the 3d or non 3d, not sure on that. The chip is a bit pricer. THe problem is I dont see as many mini ITX options yet for this platform but I need to search more.
You guys got me all messed up now cause I’m looking at that Fractal TERRA case too. LOL
If you play at 4k? get the 7700x. If you play a 1440p get the 7800x. Heck last time I looked the 7900x was on sale for 340. I got the 7950x only because it was on sale on Amazon for $470. Was a killer deal
I have a 1440p samsung monitor currently
I see the 7 7700x for $315 right now while the 7 7800x3d is $439. FOR WOW, wont these run around the same? Espically on 1440p? I dont know if I want 3D over just the normal for that price + the all around factor if I ever do anything other than gaming? Or will I regret not going 3d.
The problem is I keep finding really nice motherboards for the INTEL platform (i5 13600k is $309) and I’m not finding the same nice Mini ITX boards for the AMD side.
like ASUS ROG STRIX B760-G Gaming WiFi D4 is $218 on Amazon. I was really hoping to make a smaller PC. Maybe I’ll stick with mid-range. I do have the desk space.
7700x his hands down what I would buy unless the 7900x is close to the same price and the only reason I suggest that processor is it’s kind of the odd man out so it’s often on sale. I don’t know what region you are in the here in the US it’s often close to the same price as the 7700x so you’re getting more cores for close to the same price.
However if running cool is something you’re concerned about the 7700x in eco mode is pretty hard to beat even stress testing it stays under 70c when in eco mode
so My case just came from amazon today and it had damage so I’m returning it. Grimoire, I really like the “Fractal Terra” case. What should I buy if I take your recommendations that fit in there?
I’m even considering downgrading my 3070 to a 4060ti. Probably dumb idea though, but its smaller. I really want an aesthetic small form build that is quiet. I really dont play new games, only wow/league of legends.
When you get a chance take a look at the video I linked above. It shows just how crazy efficient the 7700x can be
As for smaller cases I can’t really give much advice on an ITX build because I have never done one I stick to ATX and eATX
I wish I could be more help but even when I used to build computers for a living I would stay away from ITX builds I just really dislike working with them but this is all personal preference
I will say though that Fractal and Phanteks are two of my favorite Brands to work with on PC cases so I really don’t think you can go wrong with that brand
ha no problem. I’m watching alot of videos. I am using this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgPgJMDNTxA&ab_channel=DevynJohnston
Nope, not even close. You’d be hard pressed to find any game out there that benefits from 3D cache more than World of Warcraft. Lower resolutions actually place a higher emphasis on the CPU, as higher resolutions are where you are more likely to be GPU limited.
If you simply can’t afford the more expensive CPU, that’s one thing, but don’t pretend that they would be anywhere near the same in terms of performance.
Id say Biggest advantage of X3D in WoW is that you can skip OC, expensive memory and memory tuning for it. It will still likely be faster than a max tuned non-X3D but not by much. This all depends on what type of curve you an achieve with PBO2. But out of the box for out of the box the 7800x3d should win hands down
Here you go OP for outside of raids FPS. Hes running at 1440p
You can compare his rig to yours
I can afford that chip but I’m not sure if I can afford the wife agro. Lol
Open a new credit card that gives you say a 200$ statement credit when you spend over 500$ in your first 90days. Many of them out there. Check Nerdwallet to find one.
Another thing you always do since results will vary rig to rig is buy both the 7800x3d and the 7700x test both. If the difference is minimal? return the 7800x3d if its huge you wont be questioning your purchase
