Kinda glad that guild died off. They did us a service tbh.
It was a pretty toxic guild that literally farmed drama.
DDOS did us all a favor.

I don’t get why people think in absolutes. Every small thing you do to make it harder discourages a lot of people who otherwise might try it. Yes, theoretically if its the CIA that wants to wipe Onlyfangs and they have infinite capacity to overwhelm the server nothing they do can stop it, but it’s not that, it’s probably some individual or small scale group. Like any other crime making it even modestly harder discourages 99% of people.
Diablo 2 has auto-logout and this generally isn’t an issue, you just alt-f4 if you’re lagging. It’s become an issue since D3 when Blizzard decided you shouldn’t be able to auto-logout like every other serious hardcore game. They should change that.
That is so easily exploited. Any time a pull goes wrong you would just alt f4.
The only thing blizz can do that cannot be exploited is auto bubble hearth everyone on the server if they detect a ddos. After that, it’s play at your own risk.
There’s no chance at rollbacks. Just go again.
This already happens, do you even play hardcore? If anything goes wrong the whole raid petris. People don’t generally die from slow burn things going wrong, they die from one shots or misplays where they thought they could do something. If they can’t protect from DDOS or don’t want to, then they can fix the problem by just making it auto-logout on alt-f4/dc like most other hardcore games. No-one thinks less of any other hardcore game because you can alt-f4.
We call this softcore or normal WOW.
Hardcore is about avoiding challenge so you don’t die. What’s the fun in that?
For me, that would be the breaking point to never playing hc again
HC has been fine until recently , but it seems to have been directed at the Only Fangs guild who just called it quits.
As others have said, there’s no real defense. I died so much in D2 HC. But then again it was always offline mode because I was on dial up back then.
It’s a huge risk to play this mode online. And everyone should be aware of it fully. Reminds me of Omg PvP happened on a PvP server mega threads
People arent blowing petris while levling 1-60 every time they make a mistake. No one would ever die while leveling again.
I don’t see any legitimate reason for HC to exist in an MMO. Or really any online game where being disconnected can kill you. You couldn’t pay me enough to even try that.
Actually I take that back, you COULD pay me enough for that but it’d have to be enough money to make it worth my time.
Please educate yourself on this topic, as a network engineer I am pain reading your responses.
Yeah no kidding, I find the armchair responses about networking and DDOS’s to be hilarious myself. I can’t believe someone actually thought that DDOS’ers are logging into the game, or even have accounts.
I lost enough hardcore diablo 2 characters to the “black wall of death” back in the day to know I would never touch it in any other game again.
It’s a cool idea but dying to things outside your control makes it not worth it.
This is going to be an extremely hard lesson for game devs and players of these games to learn when it comes to ALWAYS ONLINE THING and YOU PERMA DIE.
Like put 2 and 2 together. The problem is that people are so used to everything being peachy and smooth all the time. It’s just not realistic with hardcore.
The catch is that devs are milking this and laughing on the way to Chase bank.
It’s fine as long as you know what you’re going into and what you can lose.
Yes I see, they get to the front end before it can put up the challenge. Ok so how about sensing logins from the same address in short periods of time such as under a second.
I’ll never understand people who play hardcore accepting the whole you may day at any point to anything then act surprised and start demanding rollbacks when the anything happens
tiffany, you clearly know absolutely NOTHING about what a ddos is if you think a captcha can stop it, get your stupid elf butt some education on the topic and come back later.
You are a step behind. I already addressed that in a note above. I understand that and I made another suggestion.
I’m guessing you are a network person. I always found that of all the people in system engineering the network people were the most rude people in the system software division.
Because its not from the same address. That is a DOS attack. a DDOS attack is DISTRIBUTED, as in it comes from many different sources, which is how it gets overwhelmed.
