My problem is that whenever the HC people decide to raid and the trolls start to DDoS, the non-HC’s game login suffers for it.

I would propose that this assumption you are making is not actually supported by any facts we have. We don’t know who did what and why to cause server instability. Perhaps servers have been changed in a way that makes them now consistently less resistant to DDOS attacks. It seems to me that the number of players playing hardcore is too small to be worth an attack.

Look at that, I was right. Blizzard themselves said the attack was aimed at disrupting HC.
