Remember when people were begging for classic WoW, and saying that classic WoW was really hard and that if they brought it back it would be the hardest experience in the game?
And they kept trying to sell us that line for years.
Then classic came out, and… well, it was ridiculously easy, as everyone saw.
So this is the latest round of “no, classic WoW was hard, REALLY IT WAS… here, we’ll make up all these rules about how if you fail the easiest thing in the game’s history, you’re punished”.
Which, of course, doesn’t make it hard.

What about dungeons and raids?
It was in the base game and The Burning Crusade. It wasn’t until Wrath of the Lich King where the open world was not very threatening.
No. Hardcore for most people is ONLY while leveling.

they do the raids but the pvp ones might not be populated that much
No it wasn’t. A lot of people were just really bad back then, I guess.
Everyone I knew at the time (and we all came from having played multiple other MMORPG’s first) thought leveling in WoW was ridiculously easy. Because it was (and is).

No, not really. The only hard pay is paying attention and staying awake because it’s such a slog.
