I recently died from a disconnect bug that occurred while I was underwater (I could still see chats updating and could move around, the only way I knew I was disconnected was because my pet wasn’t following me). My internet was fine, I never disconnect from games unless my power goes out. I went to shore then logged out because this bug had happened the day before but I was in a safe spot and logging out then in fixed it. The problem is, when I logged back in this time I was dead from drowning. I was very angry about this because it was something that wasn’t in my control in any way and I knew Blizzard would tell me what it said when I agreed to the game (no hardcore chars will be rezzed for any reason). Here is what I believe NEEDS to be changed. An exception for deaths resulting from a bug or disconnect in an otherwise non life threatening situation, that’s it. The argument I have seen for this is “oh well that would open pandoras box”. Thats just bs and I believe it really highlights Blizzard’s laziness on not wanting to put resources towards accommodating a very loyal fan base. A one minute clip submitted by the appealer can show if what the person is saying is true or not. The fact that the people who made the hardcore add on had an appeal process and Blizzard (a multi million/billion? Dollar company) doesn’t is completely unacceptable. My hardcore classic experience has been completely ruined by this and I know this is happening to thousands of other players as well (two of my friends have experienced the same bug, but they were in safe locations when it happened). Bugs are fine, mistakes are fine, but a complete refusal to do anything to remedy the consequences of those mistakes is not fine or okay and really highlights something that has become a serious problem at Blizzard in recent years, which is a lack of care for the player experience. A lack of care for probably the most loyal fan base in all of gaming. I have been playing WoW for 16 years and I will not be playing again until a change is made (it’s just a waste of time because it’s only a matter of time before this happens again with another character). Really disappointed that what should be a really cool experience is being robbed from myself and thousands of other players by something that we have no control over at all.
The number playing with the addon was less than those playing official. Blizzard has CS staff serving multiple iterations of the game and doesn’t appear willing at this time to hire more. If they attempted to try to service all appeals requests for hardcore, the wait times for Era, Wrath Reforged and retail would all rise. Those players would then be unhappy.
Blizzard chose to not allow or consider appeals. It is what it is. They didn’t have to allow for free transfers to an Era server so you could continue to play that character that died in hardcore. But they did. I’m sorry for your loss but I cannot support a change to the process. It would be unfair to other players in other versions of Warcraft.
There’s two types of death I laugh about and have no sympathy for:
- Gnomer wipe caused by Hunter pet
- Drowning
Both are easily avoidable, and a death by either of these is entirely your own fault.
I agree, as long as players keep making threads about this issue. Blizzard will eventually do something about it.
You know you didn’t actually lose the character right? You can keep playing them on a classic server.
It also sounds like an addon bug. What addons are you and your friends using?
Explain how Blizzard would be able to determine the difference between an intentional D/C, like unplugging your PC from power/unplugging a network cable/turning off wifi, and that of an ISP issue or your power going out.
If you can do that, then you have done more than all the network engineers in the history of networking have done. It is impossible to differentiate these and to expect Blizzard to sort through what would be the appeals for every death in hardcore is insane.
We see these posts a lot here and many of them compare official hardcore to amateur hardcore servers. If the am servers were so great, why are all of you here? Just go back to those and all of your issues will be solved. /s
Wall of Text crits your HC toon and he dies the next time you log in.
Paragraphs please.
Yeah I know but its not the same, you know. I was enjoying the hardcore play style. Oh really? I didn’t know it could be add ons causing the issue. I use Questie, Ai voiceover, weakauras, death log, details, don’t stand there, dbm and bartender. I think that’s it.
Instead of appeals we need paragraph breaks.
I think bartender might be bugged. Bagnon too. I had to stop using a few myself, but I’ve never once experienced the bug you’re talking about.
Weakauras and details I haven’t tried in classic. Questie is pretty heavy on data and it’s location based - it might be choking up. I haven’t used it since level 10 though because I hate all the quest markers. I use Kaliel’s quest tracker instead.
I already answered that question. It really isn’t difficult. You don’t need to tell the difference between any of those things. If you have a screen recording of you disconnecting in a non threatening situation (you aren’t in combat or you are in an easily winnable combat scenario ie: one enemy and you are full health) and then you come back dead, you should be able to appeal that. Someone who forcibly dc’s when they are about to die will not be able to provide that footage.
You overestimate the number of people who record their gameplay.
Uhh I can pull a cord on my router and it will look like a normal dc even on a recording. Its why hc addon appeals were such a joke.
DCing because of server lag underwater and drowning is completely my fault? Terrible logic. Go troll somewhere else.
Dont be underwater on HC.
I mean… I’m a Warlock so I can breathe underwater, but I never go underwater on my Priest without an elixir of water breathing.
7 silver elixir of water breathing. Thats all it takes.
You voluntarily threw your character away because you didn’t want to spend 7 silver.
DCing underwater is common and a well known issue forever now.
You are entirely at fault for drowning. Back to Elwynn you go.
RIPBOZO
That doesn’t matter. It is pretty easy to tell if someone DCs in a life threatening situation. If I DC when I have 5 enemies on me and I’m dazed with 5% health. There is no way I can provide a recording of that and have it seem like I had it totally under control. In that situation, appeal denied. If I DC underwater with no mobs near me then come back on and I’m dead, appeal granted.
Skill issue
Off topic I know but I’m curious.
Is that strictly a UI quest tracker that increases the number of quests that can be tracked?
