Happy to sign the new social contract, but here's the thing

people are going to be report happy after .5 launches they will be watching all chats to report what they dont like.

its not worth the loss of your account because of report happy people.

Indeed its going to be a disaster as everyone weaponizes this to take out their enemies.

And lets not even talk about WarMode.

This is yet another predictable ā€œroad to hell is paved with good intentionsā€.

I used to agree with both of you on this subject and still do to a certain extent, but playing another game changed my mind a bit. FFXIV has itā€™s twits too but with a sprout next to my name people are so incredibly kind.

Also, for the first time dungeons are actually fun and not terrifying. If I make a mistake itā€™s all good. Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s the moderation or that the FF community is known for this attitude and itā€™s expected so like attracts like? if that makes sense? I donā€™t think people are behaving because theyā€™re supposed to, I think itā€™s an over all ā€œfeeling.ā€

That said, Iā€™ve had help and helped players in WoW regardless of any contract. The forum makes the WoW game and players sound worse than they are, but there really are more nasty people here. The game design doesnā€™t promote working together. It just doesnā€™t. I could name a few examples but donā€™t feel like bad mouthing a game I play and enjoy most of the time. Iā€™m just limited to what kind of content I do. The social contract wonā€™t change anyoneā€™s behaviour.

(I just used you two to respond to because youā€™re two of my favorites and pretty smart when it comes to these subjects.) :butterfly:

I linked you to the original - which is more detailed and limiting than the current version. If you have issues with the WoW rules, that we have had since 2004, then maybe WoW is not the game for you.

You donā€™t get suspended unless the chat logs actually back the reports. This is pretty easy - donā€™t type things that the GMs will action.

This would mean you actually were saying things that broke the rules. Otherwise you would certainly not get a perma ban. That takes a lot of infractions or something very serious.

yep thats why all my chate will be turned off except guild and of course no oen talks in speed run dungeons anyway you ok thereā€¦lol.

Yeah well in 2004 nobody was carrying on and on about how violence was done to them because you misgendered their imaginary troll character.

wrong your going to have people that cant wait as soon as the 9.2.5 launches to report anything they dont like.

its not worth the risk of losing your account.

You focus entirely on the chat aspects, but thereā€™s more to disruptive gameplay than just chatting.

prob not permas or suspensions but a ton of squelches will happen for the first bit of .5 and you could say ā€œthese rules have been in place sinceā€ but since its now back in everyones face, it will spark a ton of false reports and a ton of squelches.

And squelches will add up. Gms wont care why they added up, just that they did.

Itā€™s not going to just be things people say which get reported. Like I said, thereā€™s more to disruptive gameplay than just chat. This is why using DPS counters in FF14 is against the rules, because it can be used against others and deny them access to gameplay.

Sometimes I wonder what wow would be like if dps counters were banned.

Its weird.
I like the dps counter for at least personal cause it helps me on my dps to see where I stack up and where I am failing or can improve (was actually helpful back in cata and in legion to help me fix errors in my rotation that were brought up to me in raid when my dps was subpar for the gear i had).
Also like it as healer to see how other holy priests heal and what there top spells are and such to see maybe if im prioing wrong spells.

Just because someone does not like something, does not mean it violates the rules.

They can do that RIGHT NOW! Nothing changes with the patch except a reminder of the rules being shoved in your face.

If someone wants to report, nothing is stopping them right this second - and yes, Blizz does currently act on the reports. Go check the CS forum. Someone posted about their Suspension for chat infractions today.

Yes, zone disruption, etc. Blizzard has never taken a stance against meters or rankings. We have the ability to Kick people from groups for any reason, or no reason. Etc. Blizz does not force people to get along - they just canā€™t use offensive chat.

He was auto Squelched - which is what a lot of reports in a short time does. THEN he was actually Suspended by the GMs for abusing the reporting system. So yes, he made people aware that the gold spammer squelch system exists (most who have been here a while knew about it but I guess he did not).

On the good side, his stunt showed Blizz does actually take action on reports so more people do report than they used to. Most did not bother before.

that right there is why people will be report happy. Hopefully the improper use of reports gets the reporters silenced or taken actioned on instead if multiple instances of false reporting is found.

I agree with the not saying anything till the trigger happy people settle down or get taken actioned against.
