When I heard news of the 1.15.9 patch affecting Classic Era on friday I instantly installed the TBC client as the blue post suggested and got to work.
I have spent hours fixing lua errors and getting my custom UI addons perfected in order to be ready for the patch. I have 5+ accounts and this was the only license that was banned so the only reason I can think of was my being in durotar for hours on end while fixing my addons as I do not have any TBC characters.
All you can really do is appeal, which it looks like you have already.
Just know that when you get a response on your appeal, it will be a template. Either upheld, overturned, reduced, or escalated. Escalation isn’t something you can request. That’s if the GM feels a deep review is needed. The GM who reviews the appeal won’t go into detail.
The Support Forum Agents who moderate the CS forum don’t review appeals and they won’t be able to provide you with any information as to what was detected.
No such thing. ALL account actions are investigated prior.
What you did a day or two was NOT the cause of your account action. It can take week/s or longer for a report (even if detected by Warden), to come up top of the queue, then the investigation takes place (this also takes time).
No such thing as an automatic ban - no matter what reddit says, it’s simply not true.
Yeah don’t guess. You will never be told what it was.
Were you moving about? If not, how did you avoid getting disconnected?
Just appeal. Post here does nothing. There is no avenue to plead your case.
And don’t believe what others who were actioned claim on social media. Of course they claim they’re all innocent and must be AI/auto..
That’s still just an assumption. However, we’ve definitely been seeing a lot of “I was logged in for an excessively (in-human) amount of time because of XYZ” threads. So it wouldn’t surprise me if there was an account action for that.
For account actions, there can be some automation in that they will have their system look for specific red-flags. But, generally speaking, it’s usually not that instant or that simple.
All you can do is appeal though. The blues here don’t handle appeals, nor can anything be done to reverse the account action by posting here.
Someone spent years in the Padaren starting area and was never actioned. I highly doubt that this specifically has anything to do with being banned.
Developing addons is unlikely to have caused you to get banned. If an addon does something Blizzard doesn’t want it to do, Blizzard disables the option for an addon to do it.
Thank you for the constructive reply, Perl. I am devastated as this account has my horde warrior that I specifically leveled on Classic Anniversary to have the Undead Slaying set and Consecrated Sharpening Stones on Era.
As I said I was obsessively fixing LUA errors and painstakingly realigning UI elements for LoseControl, ItemRack, SimpleThreatPlates, TinyTooltip as well as a number of custom addons that I made on Classic Era in preparation for the 1.15.9 patch that will brick these addons. The blue post suggested any addon work to prepare for this patch be done on the TBC client so that is what I did. I take pride in my Classic Era UI so I do spend more time than I should perfecting it. I can say with 100% confidence that I was literally at the computer working on my addons.
I am open to any recommendations on what I should add to my appeal ticket, below is what I opened ~15 hours ago (second block unfortunately not proof-read all that well, I was still a bit distraught).
Hello, I have been using this license to develop my addons on the 2.5.6 TBC client in preparation for the 1.15.9 patch coming to Classic Era. I have been working tirelessly sitting in Durotar attacking mobs, etc. to perfect my custom addons. I am requesting a review of this ban as I was purely doing addon work and not any hacks/cheats.
To add more context: I was constantly reloading UI, logging in/out, attacking mobs; I leveled from 1-6 purely from mob kills while testing the new nameplates, cast bars, raid frames, etc. Further my battle.net has 6 active licenses, this was the primary license on which I was conducing my addon work and the only license that had taken against it. I did use my XYZ license to create a shaman to test casting/healing. None of my other accounts have had action taken against them.
Nobody can help you with your appeal. There are no magic words we can provide. We don’t know you, or what you were actually doing that was detected and came to Blizzard’s attention, so how would anyone provide anything valuable to your appeal?
It’s between you and Blizzard, nobody else.
As I mentioned before, an appeal isn’t for you to plead your case. It is simply a request to have eyes go over the evidence that will either result in the action upheld, the action overturned, or the investigating GM might escalate it for a deeper investigation (note, this is not something players can request).
None of that would result in a ban unless you were using exploits or automation. A ban is unlikely for anything that was being done in the last week. Investigations take time and are done in the order they were received. If it were for your addon work in the past few days, your account would still be in queue to be looked at. It would not have been actioned yet. Even chat violations aren’t usually actioned that quickly.
I doubt I was on for a consecutive 24 hours at any point, I would leave the TBC client open when I was doing other things; I did not use any third party tools to forcibly stay online nor would I have a reason to forcibly stay online.
Ok. The game would have logged you out after like an hour of inactivity anyway.
I ask because we’ve had people who claimed they weren’t botting, but the logs show they were playing for over 24 hours straight, and obviously that’s not realistic. Some would even claim it was insomnia. I’m not going to automatically disbelieve them, but I’m just saying that the system is tracking periods of active play and flagging if it goes beyond what a normal human could accomplish without sleep (or even just a break).
I hope that whoever picks up my ticket does check logs as all I was doing was addon work. There is zero possibility of malicious activity that could have originated from the license that was banned which has:
Era Warrior that has been in Midsummer crit + Battle Shout buff jail for almost a full week, I last raided on it on 07/05 and was virtually untouched until I summoned it to naxx yesterday to get in the raid group / naxx instance that I fished on a different license on the same battle.net account (this ban caused me to miss my raid and burn crit buff + battle shout buff time).
Era Level 1 summoning alt clickers
The TBC testing character that I created and reached level 6 on
One glance at the logs would show there was no malicious activity that would warrant any action whatsoever. I am just trying to learn what caused this so I do not jeopardize myself in the future as I am confident this will be overturned.
If that was the case I would expect any of the 5 other licenses on my battle.net to be impacted - this was the only license I spent a significant amount of time on the 2.5.6 TBC client in the Durotar starting zone working on getting my addons ready for 1.15.9.
I raid on my warriors with the same Era addons + weak auras on 4 of my 6 total battle.net licenses, as I said no other licenses were banned. Only the license on which I did the majority of my TBC addon work was banned.
Do you have the “Hover to Focus” enabled on your PC? Because that will earn a ban as well for streamlining. If so that would explain why the main was hit and the others weren’t.
Thank you for the input - I was not “dualboxing” while on the TBC client.
I would manually click to my second client window with the shaman to cast a healing wave to test cast bars/heal prediction or hit blood fury to test raid frame debuffs. I did not even setup follow macros, etc. I would expand more but do not want to deviate off topic.
Edit:
I just received an e-mail stating my ban was overturned!
The appeal itself was not touched by anyone, so I assume whatever system banned me also overturned the ban.
False positives do happen! Usually the way those are resolved is that people send in appeals after a ban wave. The Hacks team reviews them and realizes that something was off with the detection criteria in their anti-cheat software. They fix it, run the data again, and unban the batch who were false positives. The reversal goes out in a batch just like the ban wave does. Usually there is an apology email too.
