Guys I am really scared for retail WoW

the game was way more RPG back then , you relied on people just to level for example, was 1 server and you got to know ally and enemies, many players miss that.

Retail has issues, but ideas from Classic won’t fix it.

The 2nd half of Legion was fantastic once they smoothed the edges out. Then they forgot everything they learned in past expansions and gave us BFA.

we can only hope.

Play Classic. Guarantee you will enjoy it more than BFA even without flying and transmog.

Why would you want them to continue as they are. BFA is terrible. Classic is amazing

I think we should also be seriously pointing the finger at certain streamers like a@#mongold (i dare not speak his name) and sodapoppin for giving classic more attention than it deserves.

They are representing blizzard by actively trashing their main product just so they can get mpre twitch prime subs. Its very rude and disgraceful

Why does blizzard think that these are the people to represent them and theor public image? Especially the toxic troll asmongold

Devoting resources to classic?

I’m sure its been mentioned, but for what end? Classic fans are absolutely adamant that there be no changes. They have a road map that should take around a year at least to complete. And another year for people to start losing interest. Hell, if im honest, TBC came a little early for me. My guild hadnt even finished ZG by the time it dropped. I reckon i still had about another year of content even completely ignoring naxx and AQ40. Sure, we sucked. But so did most people. It’s a loooooooooong game. Admittedly i did switch from EU to US around 1.8, but there were still plenty of folks mulling about (which is a massive boon to classic - theres always a guild out there for you, regardless of where you are in your gear grind).

Thus, its incredibly unlikely there will be any additions or changes to classic in its first and likely second years.

After that though… perhaps? But by then i’m fairly sure lessons will be learned and applied to the main game. If not, then the two games will just have to co-exist side by side. But lets not forget that if classic brings back even 1 million players to the game, that’s another $180,000,000/year that blizzard can siphon off to new development.

And this assumes original content (as in new original content that was cut back from original wow as TBC development took precedence). No one even knows if that’s the direction they want to go in (thats the direction i prefer to be honest). But the other alternative is to just add a TBC server. And I’m absolutely sure that the development of TBC (classic) would be tiny compared to classic. The bottom line however, is that all of this is contingent on classic succeeding anyway. If it does - more revenue and options for both games; if it doesn’t then there’s very limited chance of it having extra resources devoted to it.

So dont worry dude. Classic isnt in competition with the main game, thats exactly why they tied the subs together.

Classic will never die.

The amount of private servers who have maintained 10k+ people even when BFA launched is staggering.

Classic will always have a market.

I’m gonna play both.

I think it’s a possible but very unlikely fear.

There would be no rs3. Old school runescape kept them alive, if it wasnt thr the new runescape would of died off. Just like retail wow is going to die when a new mmo comes out. Wow is dying and ir wont recover with the current devs plan.

Have you never seem a hyped game? They get like this on twitch. And then die off about a month later

I hope they learn from Classic, given that it looks like it’s going to be a success. I hope they take the best parts of classic and combine them with the best parts of retail to make retail better. Although I do like retail, I do miss the sense of adventure that Vanilla had. I also miss the level of class immersion Vanilla had (which Legion actually had too)…

Possibly yes. Buuuuut… honestly, blizzard are doing this right. First, the beta is heavily restricted by the looks of it. Not opening it up to players en masse is generating hype for release. If people got to play it now, perhaps after three months they’d be bored.
Second, the staggered opening:
We’ve had the leveling release to 30; then wsg release; now its level 40 and AB. And with the small army of minions every streamer has, we have new 50+ content theyre going to try and zerg. In about three weeks we’ll be pushing 50. And probably mid/late-july will see end game being opened up and some borked Onyxia/MC raids… if of course they finish the attunement for ony… gl horde!

We might even see an open beta late july. Again, giving players a tease.

In doing the beta piecemeal and not succumbing to the complaining about ‘streamers only’ that hype train is totally on track. The vocal complainers just really and ultimately want to play the game so they’re on board, whilst players like me can happily check in on random beta streams now and again and laugh at the fun everyone’s having.

And then it hits live and things actually matter… those streams are still going to be producing a tonne of content and hype. Just in a different context. So one month before nobody cares might be a bit optimistic

“Millennial” is an arbitrary label. It does not reflect the reality that people of all ages have different interests. Stop using labels.

Some people of all ages will like classic because it is a good fit with their personalities. How many will dive into it and let it subsume them? Probably not so many.

What happens when the people who were planning on trying it out then moving on are finished, in a few weeks to a few months?

In any case, even the staunchest supporters will use it up and run out of content.

Blizzard needs to stop playing around with what they learned in college concerning lengthening human attention metrics and they need to start making WoW entertaining, immersive, and rightfully rewarding again. If they’re being manhandled by upper management, they need to grow some balls and fight for their dream jobs. It’s actually crazy what’s happening to WoW.

Here are a lot of the problems:

  • GCD changes (feels AWFUL, SWTOR combat is god-tier compared to this)
  • Flying fiasco
  • no more Master Looter
  • no more trading gear in raid groups
  • Titan/Warforging
  • RNG in everything
  • ability pruning
  • removed focus from the RPG part of MMORPG
  • no promises of the return of serious single-player content like the Mage Tower challenges
  • removal of class specific tier sets (the only reason a lot of us raided)
  • even stupid crap like removing 2H-Frost DK, Gladiator Stance, and Single-minded Fury.

Even the writers behind the story keep telling us to “wait and see,” but we’ve waited long enough and we’re still unsatisfied with “honorable” characters that actually aren’t honorable because of writer incompetency. I mean, come on, we’re repeating the Garrosh arc in MoP step by step on Sylvanas, who was once a fan favorite character, like… Damn.

What about Vol’jin? Why’d he have to die? Why is Anduin the High King of the Alliance? Why do we freaking have a High King position? You guys did so good in Legion, minus the Vol’jin/Anduin decisions, what the hell happened with the story?

Just make a good game! Be gamers again, Blizzard, not developers, it’s the only way to bring retail back.

Uhm, no… it won’t. Classic will grant blizz some fresh moolah for a while until people get bored of it - as they will relatively quickly.

Millions of people will stop playing about 4 months in, if that, because it’ll be too hard and hardcore for them and way too grindy. Not to mention all the features we have now won’t be there.

Personally I look forward to it.

Most people are playing because the “features” we have now wont be there. Some people think LFR, Group finder, Phasing and the new style of progression is not good for the game which is why people want classic in the first place. Just like runescape

Or you know, because it’s good…
