Guildie got AH scammed, threatening to unsub and delete her account

Posting an item repeatedly for bidding but then not ever allowing bidder to buy will get you blacklisted out of just about any auction house. And it’s disruptive to the server market overall. Obviously everyone should be able to cancel auctions. But canceling the same overpriced item repeatedly should be a red flag.

That was my line of thinking when I made the initial report. The key part is that I bid on the auctions and he cancelled them. There are some other players that post similar auctions that do not cancel when you bid, that’s just free stuff, don’t report them.

…except for the WoW AH which has no rules.

Negative. You need more than a handful of auctions to “disrupt the market” in any way, shape, or form.

Except it has quite a few. All of them baked in and unbreakable.

Yeah, I’m being pedantic and laughing about you arguing with Areola.

Back in WORLK we had a guy disrupt server economics. He bought out huge sections of the AH (Herbs, Ore, leathers) for days on end and then posted thousands of items for like 1cc each.

Caused all kinds of issues, I bought so much of his stuff but he had posted so much. A lot of the AH players made out like bandits because he could only sustain it for a few weeks.

I spent thousands and waited. Once the cheap stuff dried up we went back to selling as normal but because of the amount of stuff he had sold for so cheap, prices where depressed for a good month.

It wasn’t one item though, he posted huge amounts of these items. It was insane and he was constant for a couple of weeks. Almost all selling by regular sellers stopped but we did buy him out. I had to creat new toons just to have enough bank space. Good times, good times.

I had a guildy back in TBC/WotLK that got docked twice for market disruption for more or less cornering the market on gems and later gems/glyphs. He had hundreds of thousands of gold across multiple characters, it was nuts, so he’d disrupt the AH for fun and had the wealth to do so easily on the tiny server that was Ysondre. He offloaded a ton of his gold when we xferred by buying people Haris Pilton bags, Traveler Mammoths, etc. Was fun!

It might be a dick move, but how in the world is this considered a scam if you can just see the price before you click?

Not entirely sure I understand how people fall for this. People just mindlessly clicking in haste, or is there more to this than meets the eye?

People blindly buy stuff and want protection for being lazy.

Because they personally don’t like it.

They are part of the “Cancel Culture” crowd.

I hate pancakes so I demand they be banned.

I hate having to pay for things I want so cancel the free market.

I hate the AH so I want the players who sell in the AH banned for life.

Lol this is what you got from me saying it’s bad to have people putting items up for bid but not allowing bidders to win the item?

That’s a lot of projection my guy.

A simple solution would be to make the fee for cancelling an auction early after someone has bid based on the buyout amount instead of the bid.

That would significantly increase the risk of this type of scam.

It would also significantly eliminate the point of setting low bids generally, even for “legitimate” reasons.

Nah it would just mean you’d need to post min bids you’d actually be willing to accept.

Except there’s no relationship between the two at all so it just needlessly penalizes anyone that cancels an auction. This is nonsense.

Nah there’s plenty of ways to tune it to not catch legitimate buyers, someone posting a buyout that is thousands of percent more than the minimum bid is almost certainly not posting in good faith.

Blizzard doesn’t asses intent so this is a non-starter.

If this were any other MMO the sniper would be banned. But this is WoW we’re talking about here, where every mistake you make is behind a veil of CS “not interfering with player choices.”

I just got scammed folks. I had an auction sell for the mon bid and not the buy out price!!!

BLOZZARD I was scammed and want my gold and item back!!! People shouldn’t be allowed to rip me off like this!!! How will I ever get ten toons flying???

If this was China you would be chained to a desk farming gold for 22 hours a day!!!
