Guild Bank Missing Items Bug -- Aug/Sept 2024

It’s been awhile and we’ve had some newcomers arrive in The Maw recently, so I believe a refresher is in order:

  • The timeline I put together back in early October, as well what news articles I could find.  (Speaking of, I did check a couple days ago and sorry to say I could not find any more recent articles.)

  • Kurnmogh the herald:

    • The basics of the bank heist: https://youtu.be/IrwB3uIm7Qk.  There’s also longer videos on kurnmogh’s YouTube channel about it.

  • Veritable on what should have been done.

  • Lastly, please do not feed the trolls.  The Maw is a place we already don’t want to be in, so let’s not make it even more unpleasant and risk locking the only thread we’re allowed to have.  If the troll has hidden their profile, there is still a means to set the person on ignore which you can find here.

It looks as if my second guild bank, which I do not run as a leader, has been affected now.

I just checked today and saw empty tabs. Only me and another person are still active in this guild, he did not take anything out, the logs only show what I took out two months ago, which was a single item.

In my opinion this is a clear sign that the bug is still alive and not fixed. So you better be careful if you put something in.

I can’t 100% confirm, but while my normal guild bank seems untouched, a guild bank where I keep transmog stuff may have been affected. There are some gaps in two tabs. This doesn’t mean for sure something was lost, because I use this bank so rarely, but I did want to chime in on the possibility. When I looked a couple months ago, everything seemed fine, but this doesn’t seem fine now…

So tab 1 cost me 98k sallow pigments which is 6.8m gold, second tab was 1.3m gold and its too hard to work out the costs on tab 3-7 . Its truly shocking

“It looks like…” “it seems like…” “I interpreted that to mean…” “I think…” this is what baffles me, there’s clearly so much confusion about the issue, so many people in this thread are speculating because blizzard won’t give a clear yes/no answer. Even if they can’t/won’t recover the data, even if they won’t compensate people, even if they won’t provide any kind of response to this thread, why can’t they just give a straight yes/no answer? It’s not really about player retention and subs anymore when they can just hit the print money button and list a $120AUD mount on the store, and a thread with 4k posts of people speculating clearly means the meager blue post isn’t enough.

I don’t need them to grovel, I don’t need them to refund me around 15 years worth of gametime, I don’t even need my items back. I need them to handle this professionally. If I messed up at my job and caused a huge issue, and all I said was “sorry it probably won’t happen again (maybe) and also I didn’t fix the damage, and I may or may not return some of the stuff I lost, anyway keep paying me and shut up about it” I would be fired.

A yes or no, would hold them accountable, a vague statement will not. I have more and more the feeling that they have no clue what really happened or what caused it.

We’re up to 573 unique users in the thread! Still only a drop in the (very large) bucket. But more voices is more voices and I’ll take it.

Well, Blizzard, this just sucks. My guild bank with 7 tabs is completely empty and your response is “Yeah, crazy right?” That was like <what anniversary is it?> many years of collecting stuff. All gone.

“I know! Crazy, right?”

That’s some crappy customer service right here.

“Shrugs n’ hugs!”

They don’t even have to say anything about the bug itself, but they could at least say whether the restorations are done or not. It looks like they’re done, but we shouldn’t have to rely on maybes.

Makes me wonder if things are much worse behind the scenes, like something seriously broke and they’re desperately plugging holes in a sinking ship. Not to get all tin foil hat, but it seems weird that none of the big streamers or any un/official sources posted about it, and it took over a month for a couple of websites to write about it. Even if it only affected a small amount of players, it’s not a minor bug like a quest breaking. This sets precedent that blizz can lose/delete player items and their response will just be “lol whoops”. The people who unsub don’t matter because blizz got their $120AUD mount to cover that. Idk, I feel like things might just be getting worse from here on.

Yea, they did the restorations for about 5 minutes…restored an item for that one guy, said F this, screw yall, and gave up…stole 7 tabs of stuff from me, jerked me around for months, then said yea thas too bad so sad…

Hey, those new to this thread (or got dumped in here after posting in Customer Service or Bug Reports), welcome. We’ve unofficially been calling this place (this thread) “The Maw.” Some of us have been here (or rather, in the ORIGINAL Bug Report forum on this topic) since mid August.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. Most of us here can relate and empathize. And if you came back for the Anniversary event, so sorry that you had to find this issue as well.

they have no way of doing this. you’re asking them to do the impossible. you’re setting yourself up for disappointment :frowning:

Disappointment was when we opened our empty guild banks, now we just want to be the voice that is not silenced.

I had a ticket over a month ago and I was told things I sent screenshots for would be mailed to our GM and they marked ticket resolved. Fast forward, still nothing. Its only a couple hundred feast and sharks that I can prove, but that isn’t the point. Guildies worked hard to contribute and we had fun movie night farming. I could just buy them, and it just isn’t fair to them.

Screenshots have never been used as evidence. It’s by their logs, and always has been.

Customer data loss.

Sad that such incompetence can happen at Activision Blizzard. It’s more than sad, it’s unthinkable and embarrassing. It would also be damaging, but not enough people know it happened.

Had every Guild been effected, which I am truly glad they were not, then this game would have been at risk of a mass cancellation exodus.

true, but that’s what irks me even more. knowing it can be proven and still left out to dry.

Even items shown in the guild log as being deposited shortly before the data-clysm won’t be restored. Its really funny how little they trust any of us with data, considering we can’t trust them at all.

I paid for a 12 month sub a while back.

I can’t cancel it. That’s the point of those deals by the way. They know their content will suck so bad, that eventually they need to hedge losses by locking in long term subs.

They have statistical data that shows people cancel their subs EN MASS a month or two or three after a new expansion. So they desperately try to get you to buy a 12 month and grant you a mount. You will do it because of FOMO.

The guild bank deleted items opened my eyes. I still care about ALL the digital items I collected over 19 years, but Blizzard does not. They deleted those items, blamed it on a bug, and told us to go away.

Now, I know that Blizzard can delete any item, blame it on a bug, post a pathetic statement that sums up to “too bad, so sad”, and then sell a $90 ground mount to make up for it.

My Blizzard gear purchases post the Guild bank deleted items bug was $3321 per year medium, with max $4901 and min $956. I WAS proud of this. I use to love this company and love to show it off in public and at home. I loved the Frostmourne sword, the Doomhammer, shirts, hats, hoodies, ect.

Now I feel utterly betrayed by Blizzard.

Now, I’m not spending another penny to this company. Yes, I still love World of Warcraft. Yes, I still love Thrall and the Horde. I still love Azeroth and the stories and the lore. But Blizzard does not care about me.

Blizzard cares more about $$$ than your missing items.
Blizzard cares more about $$$ than real customer support.

Blizzard cares more about quarterly $$$ than anything else. They don’t want to pay programmers to implement solid data redundancy policies. They don’t want to pay to recover our lost data after they deleted it.

They only want this issue to go away.
