Guild Bank Missing Items Bug -- Aug/Sept 2024

Blizzard hurt me deeply when they deleted my guild bank items. I have become demoralized and no longer feel about them the way I have for decades. I have been struggling with how to respond.

My logic tells me to quit now. They are declining worse and worse each year. The bugs I have personally encountered this expansion have been the most and worse from any expansion. Also they are not even getting fixed. Their customer support has evaporated. The guild bank deleted items, and inability to do restorations, is their greatest display of incompetence in WOWā€™s history. All of this while their business strategy is to lay off more and more employees, and ask us for more and more money.

But my heart wants to ā€œfinishā€ this, since I have played without cancelling since vanilla, until last month when I canceled because of guild bank non-restorations. I think Metzen is here, and this sagaā€™s purpose, is to wrap things up in these 3 planned expansions. I still love the characters, lore, and world.

I will stop spending all money on this company except the sub fee to see the story through to the end. This would be a huge shift for me, as I have spent countless thousands on merchandise, tokens, in store mounts, books, collectors editions, statues, etc. I have the Doomhammer, Frostmourne, huge Thrall statue, Sylvanas bust, Ragnaros statue, only to name SOME. Countless shirts, hats, jackets, pants. I was buying off the Blizzard gear store almost monthly for the last 10 years, ALL World of Warcraft items.

But I have stopped cold on everything since last month because of their non-response to players about the guild bank missing items. Now I feel like my eyes have been opened. I believe they only care about their profits, not players. If you want my justifications, just look at everything they have done week by week for the last 3 months. I donā€™t trust that anything I have in the game is safe now.

Yes, old me would have already bought the new $90 mount.

But directly because of the guild bank deleted items, I have not and will not buy it. I will NEVER spend any more money on this company for digital assetsā€¦ excuse me, ā€œlicenseā€ as it says on the mount store page.

I should at least receive some form of compensation for everything of mine that Blizzard lost and did not restore. I received NOTHING back from 2 guild banks, tens of thousands of items from all expansions and I donā€™t even get a WoW token as an apology for the destruction and involuntary removal of my items. This wasnā€™t a punitive action for exploitation or any untoward actions on my part; the responsibility lies wholly on Blizzard.

When my internet goes out for extended periods of time, my ISP refunds me those days of lost service, even renowned for their terrible customer service Comcast/Xfinity did that. What does Blizzard do? Absolutely. Nothing. I demand, at minimum, even just a single WoW token for compensation of the value of goods I lost.

A character I logged into last night now has ā€œguild bank empty, we donā€™t know what happenedā€ as their MOTD. Is this still happening?

So, every account gets compensation for things? They have done nothing to indicate that there is a record of what was lost. If they knew that, thereā€™d be no reason they couldnā€™t restore it.

A few months ago when there was a super-extended downtime they comped everyone an extra day.

Still waiting for our items Bliz!
Still not letting this go.
It will not die off and fade into the nether!
GIVE US OUR STUFF BACK!

Think I am to the point of petitioning our lawmakers to pass new consumer protection laws regarding on-line gaming. If anyone has sent a letter to their state and fed congress peoples, let us know so we can word it about the same to ours.

The original bug was fixed with the op of this topic, so it should not be unless another bug popped up with this patch. We donā€™t really have much to go on besides that, thereā€™s been one other mention of a guild bank losing items post fix somewhere in this thread.

Nobody lost items post fixā€¦that person had just not checked their guild bank in a couple months and was briefly looking at cache until it updated with the server for what was actually in the bank. They had already lost the items with everyone else and just didnā€™t realize it.

That said, bug reports is not the place for posts on this so I understand why theyā€™re moving them here. QAā€™s job is to fix bugs. The bug was fixed. Restoration of items is up to the devs since CS is specifically not allowed to touch this issue. That leaves this thread in general.

Donā€™t blame the GMā€™s (who are part of CS), itā€™s not their fault. They have been given instructions that they are not allowed to touch this issue. Donā€™t shoot the messenger.

Iā€™m going to refer you to this

I suggest you read Play Nice, the book about the rise/fall/future of Blizzard, by Jason Schrier. Itā€™s absolutely crystal-clear that WoW is the cash cow for Blizzard. Nothing else ever came close to dethroning WoW in terms of revenue.

It doesnā€™t seem likely in the slightest to me that WoW will end after The Last Titan. Iā€™m pretty sure I read or watched an interview where it was said theyā€™re already working on planning for 14.0, 15.0, 16.0 and such. (I canā€™t find the source when I need it, of course. Anyone else know what Iā€™m talking about?)

My point here is that I donā€™t think WoW is ending. I think itā€™s going to continue to be the way that Microsoft recoups its investment from the 68.7 billion dollar purchase. As of 2022, ABK in total brought in about 8 billion, almost 6 billion of which were primarily subscription fees. (Source - https:// www. statista. com/statistics/1208560/activision-blizzards-revenue-by-composition/ ) (Apparently I canā€™t post links.)

That said, they also had high costs. Sure, they brought in almost 8 billion, but they were only making about 600 million in profit after paying off their expenses, per quarter. (Source = https: // www. sec. gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/0000718877/000162828023026269/atvi-20230630.htm)

This shows why Microsoft has laid off so many employees. Obviously, there are some employees whose jobs were redundant after the acquisition ā€“ like HR, marketing, etc. All the stuff that isnā€™t to do specifically with the games that ABK produces, essentially. Then they also trimmed dev positions. They know they can cut some costs and, by committing to 18-month expansion cycles, they also know they can keep getting boosts from one-time payments for the game, in addition to ongoing subscriptions.

Iā€™m not trying to convince you to quit, Gulltherizul. Iā€™m just saying theyā€™re not going to end WoW until MS has recouped a large portion of the 68.7 billion they spent, since WoW continues to be the biggest amount of revenue for ABK. If they go by pure income versus profit, thatā€™s going to be like 7+ years down the road. If they go by profit, thatā€™s going to be ages yet, though I donā€™t know what the profits look like now because itā€™s all buried in Microsoftā€™s other divisions.

It also sucks because Iā€™m enjoying the game and donā€™t want to quit. I also was only barely affected by the guild bank issue, to the point where thatā€™s really a non-factor for me. Between levelling an Earthen and classic Timewalking Iā€™ve recovered everything I lost and then some. My main disappointment with this expansion has been poor code quality (the amount and severity of bugs is astounding, it was clearly rushed).

Iā€™m sure they will eventually drive me to quit, but weā€™ll see when that happens. If they do stuff like try to tie Game Pass into WOW that will do it for sure.

This is an active guild Iā€™m talking about, not some rando who just logged in for the first time this expansion.

Itā€™s not unknown for them to hotfix a bug, and then have it pop up again in later patches. This shows that they have no system for making sure that hotfixes that go on the current game are also applied to the working copy that devs are building from.

Right, which is why I said it shouldnā€™t be ongoing per their words. If your gm isnā€™t aware of how any incoming tickets and bug report topics are being handled in regards to the guild banks and funneled here, you may want to tell them to mention the active guild part and that this happened well after the fix on sept 20th.

Yep, sometimes you think have a new bug but when you search you find a thread from years ago and there are indications it has been fixed, more than once.

In Legion the boats and zeppelins werenā€™t working on the PTR. They fixed it. They werenā€™t working when the game dropped. They fixed it again. And the next patch it broke again. And they fixed it again.

To anyone trying to spread the word on Youtube or other apps, just know that Iā€™ve been shadow-banned by Blizzard channels for doing just that. They clearly want this to go away, and they donā€™t care how it affects their image.

Iā€™ve posted on Bellularā€™s channel (He banned me as well, heā€™s likely very scared to oppose or call out Blizzard, which shows me exactly what kind of person he is). Iā€™ve posted on Dalaran Gaming, Preach, Kelani, and others, all of which have remained SILENT.

I find it truly disgusting how Blizzard has been treating this situation and the player base, and Iā€™ve had about enough. I came back to TWW really looking forward to playing again, but Iā€™ve been met with nothing but issues and bugs.

I will be cancelling my account again (as if that makes a difference), and will likely not return this time. I took three years away because Shadowlands was hot garbage; The reality is that Blizzard as a whole shares this description.

Blizzard, you are truly dead.

Pretty sure Bellular has muted(?) or banned me too, as my comments donā€™t show up to anyone but myself. Absolutely ridiculous, especially considering he just ripped Blizz a new one with regard to the ā€œslopā€ that is the latest patch. (His words.)

Iā€™m still going to make some noise for a while yet. Weā€™ll see if anything happens.

As to your decision, totally fair. My paid-for game time is dwindling. Iā€™m not too far behind, likely.

Havenā€™t heard back from Gamers Nexus yetā€¦but Steve will definitely not kowtow to Blizzard or any other company. I just hope he makes a video on it at some point. He did reply and say he would look into it, but he has a lot on his plate with the Intel and AMD launches (which to be fair is his primary thing).

Yes. If you operate a video game and something affects all, most or even just a lot of the player base, and youā€™re unable to get logs that clearly indicate what has been lost or who has been affected, the only option left is universal compensation.

He banned you for posting on his channel about it?
I donā€™t watch streamers - but that seems pretty pathetic to ban someone like thatā€¦
Well if I ever decide to watch one ā€“ it wonā€™t be him ā€“ tbh ā€“ Iā€™ve watched snippets of his ā€œdroaningā€ and it didnā€™t keep my attention, but streamers donā€™t.

All I can say is (no pun intended) wow
