0/30/21 is a great level 60 raiding spec for the reasons you mentioned. For 1-59, I’m going with 0-31-20 with emphasis on cat dps talents instead of bear tanking talents because so much of open-world leveling needs dps.
Once you start raiding, it’s ok to gimp your cat dps for dungeons (by foregoing Shred for Thick Hide) because presumably the other dps’ers in your guild are geared and compensating for that.
Of all the things I’ve seen thrown at Druids about what can and cannot be done, something that can be immediately tested without even needing anything to attack shouldn’t be something to so flagrantly lie about… I’m actually kinda speechless.
I really dont care about topping DPS charts…
thats not why im a druid.
I am a druid because when we get a bad pull i can:
#1 innervate the OOM healer. #2 battle rez anyone there. #3 drop into bear and get stuff off the healer. #4 drop into bear and stun a mob for 5 seconds. #5 cancel form and throw some heals around. #6 i can bear/challenging shout and get eerything off the healers and DPS for a few seconds that can mean the difference in a wipe and a clear. #7 so i can stealth around when i want to #8 so i can heal myself when i solo. #9 teleport moonglade : hearth. #10 roll on leather and cloth. melee. caster… what ever gear. #11 heart of the wild is awesome. #12 off tank in 10-40 man dungeons.
I honestly dont care if it top DPS charts.
I did that as a mage and lock .
But i didnt have mobility or utlity i offer now…
As a old guild GM and raider i would say i look more at damage taken than DPS when deciding who i bring. a hunter who just stands in fire but puts out the highest DPS will not be picked over the lowest damage taken person that does 20% less damage… The encounters are about awareness. control. mobility and correct mechanics.

many fights i dont care about your deeppssmetah…
I care about damage taken. number of potions used. bandages used. healthstones used. ability to not take damage.
The current phase we are in makes feral “not too bad” if you run with the crowd pummeler, once phase 6 rolls around, you wont see a ton of improvement with feral DPS in raids compared to War/Rogue/Mage/Lock. At Naxx, feral are pretty much right above Lolzret paladins in terms of DPS, putting them around 3rd from the bottom.
If you have a great guild whos not min/maxing, feral (cat) DPS is fine. A chill guild shouldnt have an issue with you BUT dont let any guides/players fool you into believing youll have competitive DPS even after working harder than any other class in that last phase.
Feral’s usefulness as actual DPS at the Naxx level is for the exceptional scaling the Rogues and Warriors get for grouping with one. Unlike Shaman and Paladins who don’t have to go very deep (or have any talents at all in some cases), having a committed Feral actually helps the Raid out for optimizing.
Plus Feral Tanking is absolutely superb so they remain relevant for that as well.
The only answer to this question that has any merit is the one that comes from your raid leader. If he/she says yes, then you can. If they say no, then you can’t.
Druids can serve as the main tank for most fights in the game. High health/stealth/agi make up for the lack of a shield/def cap.
The fact that we have dw-fury tanks already should help reinforce that prot warriors aren’t the only viable tanks.
Regarding DPS - this is “Classic,” not current Mythic raiding. These raids aren’t tuned with an intent of max DPS for the entire pull. Threat matters. Mechanics matter. Know the pulls. Know your class (utility classes should expect to be not doing DPS at any moment for any number of reasons.)
