Group Finder makes RBGs worse with the point rollercoaster

It’s well documented that people overemphasize CR, Vers, and ilvl in the Group Finder, and people are what they are, we can’t change that. But to have the points allocated based on the team makes things worse.

I joined up with a group that would take me the other day, and we won the first match - Rating unchanged. Lost the next one and I dropped 14 points. Then we won, up 4 points, lost the 4th, down 8, and I quit.

Why isn’t Blizzard doing anything. Why can’t they do something up to and including talking to us. This is just so miserable as a serious RBG player.

if you’re going to pug, from my experience when you join a group at a certain rating check the players to see if the average is the rating listed. if there’s people with no cr or no where near it, then just leave the group as the mmr will be too low for you which will give you no rating gains, and only rating loss.

i know it’s tough, but as someone that pugged to 2.4, it’s the way to to, be the inspector, make sure you’re playing with people at your level.

Yeah, I guess I’m going to need to. I’ve had one too many groups laugh off a loss with a “we’ll get 'em next time.”

If I’m more angry at you than you are at yourself, then you’re the problem.

And you gotta watch out for teams that are on a lose streak. I joined a group being lazy all of which were around my CR, but apparently the MMR was like down 400 and I lost 18 points.

The LFG tool is fine, you just have to investigate. Pvpcheck is your best friend.

Ah see this is knowledge I can use. Downloading this now. Thanks, I appreciate it.

Don’tuse the addon it’s buggy. Just have the site up and copy the name from their portrait.

Oh I see. ok. What addons do you recommend. I was using BG Enemies but as a healer it didn’t add much and it obstructed my vision so I got rid of it. Thoughts?

I’m an addon minimalist. I don’t think you need all that much. As a healer, I’d recommend based on what I use…

BigDebuffs
Omnibar
OmniCC
WeakAuras
BattlegroundEnemies (I disable my faction side as I use default raid frames but have the opposite faction ones low scaled on right side of screen)

LFG is fine but I do thing blizz could do a lot more to help people out as well. But in the end your right, you have to do your research if you care about rating.

Maybe some more search parameters and a way that the system can base information from what you have to make recommendations on groups you should join. IDK. I feel like Alliance side is easier because there are less people and groups. It’s much easier to recognize the people I want to avoid. Maybe I’ve just used the tool a lot I’ve grown to it, It’s harder to see things from a newer player/or one that hasn’t really done rated pvp perspective.

You’re going to end up qing and researching people to group with then actually playing the game you pay for, need SoloQ

Omg, that’s like the worst argument, and not even true.

Kind like you said… Why doesn’t wow have a check pvp feature built in or even a link to an external site.

Maybe list the groups record, especially if the group has kept 5+ together for 3 or more games.

A link to the wow armory would be great (and updating the armory to include any alts I think is a must at this point).

Lastly when someone queue’s don’t we need more info than just Ilvl? I mean people say gear doesn’t matter, and people say gear does matter. When blizz really only gives you one point of information as Ilvl it makes it feel like gear is the most important. So I think a season high for that brackets CR would be nice to list and current CR

If BGE is obstructing your vision, I believe it can be customized with resizing (I’m not 100% on this but seems like I’ve seen it in the options window). I’d definitley keep BGE, though.

And if you’re healing either download a mouse portrait interface addon, or setup mouse macros.

Kekw covered the rest of the stuff I use as a healer.

Also, be sure to pick up a battle standard. They’re super OP and I see so many people not using them.

It can’t be too awfully difficult to have personal MMR displayed on your character as well as have it and CR show up in LFG like ilvl. If they want us using LFG a lot, don’t require us to use outside sources. What % of the player base has no idea what pvp check is?

Worth mentioning, but wasn’t–if you’re getting bad games with dishonest players and waiting in LFG forever anyway, why not just form your own groups? You literally can’t be any worse than anyone not smurfing at raid leading at your MMR, so you stand a really good chance at getting better groups, cutting your wait times down, and you can vet players before inviting which will control the MMR swing you’re experiencing.

Although not a perfect solution, I’ll try and give ya some tips to hit 1800 as quickly as possible, as this is a grind I remember all too well from back in MOP, WOD, Legion, etc.

#1. For any group you consistently win games with, Btag those people immediately. LFG is designed specifically to get you to roughly 1600-1700, with the 1800+ being made from consistent play with people you do well with along the way. Do not attempt to climb all the way to 1800 with random LFG groups, or you’ll likely suffer the same frustration of time spent/points tanked that you’re dealing with now. You need consistency and synergy to get into higher ratings, and that only comes with playing with the same people (especially Healers) as often as possible. If those people aren’t online, try #2 below.

#2. Follow/get in on the Streamer Viewer RBG groups. There’s a few streamers like Teebull, UnrealisticA52, and FlarknessTV who’ve made consistent 1800-2100 groups from viewers alone, and they do this because they not only have access to past RBG Heros on alts, but also friends of friends of these people who visit their stream. A LOT of these guys just want to have fun on alts themselves, so they form semi or fully meta comps out of the gate, win consistently, rotate group members to keep MMR in check, and make it their point to get their viewers specific goals. I believe Flark has helped 500+ people get their 1600, 1800, and 2100 ratings since his stream started, though you must be prepared for constructive (and sometimes very loud) criticism.

#3. Stick to meta comps and meta specs only. Combine that with only playing during non-primetime hours. This is a frustrating one, because if your friends don’t do well with these specs, it can handicap you, but with the sheer amount of teams queueing on any given day, you should get enough games to push you to 1800. There’s a catch-22 with that however, as carry groups are more than ever before, and as they are forced to tank their MMR for sales, so too do they show up in your bracket and demoralize the group. Make sure your group understands these games aren’t the norm, and to just sweep them under the rug and re-queue. If need be, don’t play your primary games on Saturday/Sunday nights, but rather the earlier afternoons when carry groups aren’t as common.

if you are genuinely doing yolo pugs there cannot be any real goal of rating from the experience

it is just to grind rated honor, conquest points, and to be largely carefree about the outcomes while still trying to win as much as you can. You have to be unbothered by a constant treadmill of new players in your group after every loss.

a true yolo must also face the fact that after 2 wins in a row your MMR is now working against you. Sometimes a yolo needs to lose enough to drop the MMR before it starts picking up wins again.

Now if you are trying to find a voice group with the finder they are going to be more picky because they care about rating to some degree and they will often be looking for overgeared players and prefer specific FOTM class/specs and they want you around their MMR so you don’t jack the matchmaking

in general yolos have the best experience when there are tons of other yolos in the q, and the pvp gearing and rewards systems is entirely what drives this dynamic
