Great Vault Option For Wrong Spec

One of the options for me from the great vault today was the Best In Slots mace, which I was happy to see as I had been hoping for it, but it was the two-handed version which is the wrong spec for Balance Druid who uses the one-handed version. I have never noticed an item for the wrong spec in the great vault before. I have never even tried any other spec, always played Balance, my loot preference is default current spec. I can only assume it is a mistake with this one particular mace, but I don’t know if something else weird happened or what. The other gear available today is for the right spec, just the wrong version of the Best In Slots mace.

Unfortunately the vault gear is designed to create loot for all specs.

But it shows which spec it is generating loot for when you go to open it for the first time that week.

Best-in-Slots doesn’t have a one-handed version to my knowledge. Resto druid can use it and I’m fairly confident all specs use the same preferred weapon types, only things that change are preferred stats.

True in the broad sense, but once opened the first time on a character, it will provide gear suited to the spec you were in at the time of opening.

You can follow along with your character casting “Generating Loot for [insert spec]” for I think 5 seconds so you can reconsider switching to another spec if you wanted.

Also, the Best-in-Slots 2h mace is listed as a BiS weapon for Balance according to Icy Veins.

Balance druid is technically also dps, but you’re thinking of it’s performance swap from intellect to strength/agility.

OP is talking about switching from 2H to 1H which doesn’t exist.

Your right, I was mistaken about the 1 handed version. But the item in the great vault is strength/agility

That is its default presentation, by a great many accounts.

To switch it to intellect, just right-click the weapon when equipped while out of combat.

I see. Something I haven’t run into before. Thanks a bunch

It is a unique item design (that I don’t think we’ve seen since Vanilla), but the bottom of the on use part of the tooltip includes “when out of combat, re-configure the weapon for spellcasting”

It’s unique now, but there were a couple items in Classic that worked the same way. Benediction for priests comes to mind.

Benediction (H Priest)/ Anathema (S Priest): reward for an epic quest that involved a drop from Molten Core and a solo healing scenario

Shadowstrike/Thunderstrike: drop from one of the Molten Core bosses. Polearm. Oddly, never BiS in either form.

We’ve had a few sprinkled here and there throughout most expansions. Vendorstrike and Benediction obviously, the Felhounds trinket in Antorus during Legion, and there are 1 or two I’m sure I’m forgetting. Before this I believe the most recent was the Emerald Dream world content polearm from DF.

This same situation would also currently apply for anyone getting Mister Lock-N-Stalk which will show up in the vault with it’s default “form”, but allow you to toggle it between single-target physical and AoE fire/magical damage procs.
