Example I’ve been using is the Blizzcon pets and mounts. Should people participate in that in the future if they were not only watching for announcements but also for a limited time pet? 
After today, I’ll probably just chance it being on the trading post in the future.
If an item as an infinite supply (aka digitally created goods not tied by irl codes), it never had value from its inception.

The value comes from the fact that they had something and others didn’t. It’s a pride thing, I think. This is the same type of person that probably stole their friend’s rare holographic Pokemon card because they wanted to be the only one that had it.

I’ve had the charger in my stable for over a decade now (oh god it’s really been that long?!) and I’m glad it’s the original one coming back, for a few reasons. Mainly so players who couldn’t afford an entire year’s sub all at once back then, or people who weren’t playing at that exact time when the promo ran have another shot at it finally!
The more selfish reason though is that since it’s the same mount vs a new one, I don’t have to spend any more gold on tokens to buy yet another mount I won’t use in Dragonflight.

Just because an item is digital doesn’t mean that it can’t be limited. Digital gates are an actual thing.
I also have it from the original promotion. No skin off my nose about it. I am happy that people can get it now who couldn’t then for various reasons.

They shouldn’t if they’re only buying into it because of exclusivity of rewards.
Not to say that’s the only reason people might buy it, but if it not remaining exclusive would be a deal breaker then don’t buy it.
This is how people should have treated the charger too.

Okay, I feel like you’re trolling me. So I’ll just say this as my last piece/peace in an attempt to try and get you to understand…that is if you’re not being facetious.
Something can be valuable and it have nothing to do with money.
Novelty can be something unique. This was unique because you had to play during a certain time period to receive it.
It does matter when it happened. Veteran players (of any game) typically play for so long because of said items. (This obviously isn’t the only reason they play.)
