Played vanilla. Wanted improved character models way back in 2005. Don’t understand the desire for the old models but whatever.
If you want updates models then guess what… You can very easily changes to the newer models since that is all client side data. There are a few model packs out there that you can download to achieve what you’re looking for. Just remember if you do decide to change to the newer models only you will see them since it’s client side.
Actually, if you do this you’ll get a ban. All the client model replacement stuff has been banned by Blizzard.
From my understanding, if the models are the same size then it’s undetectable. If you go changing the size of herbs so they’re easier to spot for an example you will run into issues.
I could be wrong, so obviously use at your own risk. Even if you get banned, whoopie, you lost a level 1toon. Make a new account and continue on.
No. The Warden system (now Blizzard Agent) will do a fingerprint test of the loaded executable and data files, and identify that the bytes don’t match the hash, and then send that information to Blizzard.
The gameplay mechanics have always been ‘eehhh’, the graphics and experiences are what makes it immersive. Just IMO.
Would it be possible for Blizzard to have some little toggle to switch between the two?
If your entire account gets banned, that is potentially a very big deal, especially if someone cares at all about any progress they’ve made on the modern side of WoW. So, not so whoopie.
I imagine anything is possible if they cared enough about it but I doubt they do. My guess is that they want this to me as low maintenance for them as possible. That is probably the reason they don’t want to give us earlier AV. If people don’t like it and don’t play it they don’t want to have to come back and put the 1.12 version back in.
Well played.
I want my character to look the way I want on other people’s screens, not just my own. So I hate the old toggle system. And the new models.
As such, classic having old models and people not being able to swap me to a horrific monster on their own screens is exactly what I want. Until Blizz makes it so people do it on a per character basis and not locally.
Why does everyone have to get so butt hurt when a question is asked. I don’t see the problem in wanting or at least even wondering what the technical difficulties / road blocks, if any were in implementing up-to-date graphics, or just the general decision that was made to keep them the same. Not everyone played on low settings and 20fps… I personally bought my first computer out of high school to play the game when it launched. It was $3,300 and it ran wow quite nicely. I saved up for a long time to purchase it. That being said, now that we have things like 1440p displays that are larger than 21 inches, it is a reasonable question. If you don’t have an answer, take your hurt butt somewhere else. Sheesh…he was even polite in the post. There’s no reason to be rude, fellow LFR heroes
So, I didn’t see anyone mention this here, but I did hear an interview in which they stated that the reason the toggle was removed was due to the animations. If you rewind time and go look at EverQuest (the original) When Shadows of Luclin released, they updated the character models. But not the animations, this means that you’re not changing anything but the polygons.
Unfortunately, in WoW, the developers created all new animations for the character models when they released, meaning that if there was a toggle, either something would graphically break by not having a pivot point in the right area, or they would have to only use the original animations. Neither of which was an attractive option at the time. So, they back-burnered it.
I suspect the new character models will be something that they re-release in the future as a retention tactic.
All heresay and my own opinions, but there it is.
I fully believe that either Blizz will do it, or a less-than-allowed add-on will make it possible to use the new models (which I prefer, and purely subjective)
Because a lot of people, myself included, like the updated graphics but also like the old gameplay. to just completely ban the ability to have modern graphics would take away from our experience. I don’t know about you, but I live in 2019. I want a pretty game.
If they released the vanilla game and kept it vanilla in every way EXCEPT to have the modern graphics I honestly feel like a LOT of people would flock to it. I sure as hell would. Right now, I like the current WoW because of the quality of life, the graphics, and my friends who play it (I literally can’t stand most content in the modern game). But if WoW Classic had today’s graphics, I would flock to it in a heartbeat, as I’m sure most others would.
Thank you. I won’t even want to play the game with the s*** graphics it had upon release. Without the updated graphics, the ONLY thing that would get me to play would be enough close friends who would want me to.
No, they were actually very terrible, as least as far as the lighting is concerned. And the lighting is still very inconsistent and bad, imo. At least now player-carried light sources light up the surroundings more evenly.
I completely agree, if you’re applying that argument to today. Because modern WoW is very pretty (compared to it’s vanilla counterpart) but HORRIBLE in terms of gameplay. I mean seriously, who wants to sit and grind for… days upon WEEKS just to get the right STATS on the right armor to MAYBE get into raid content. Old days? Just get the armor. Yes it was a grind, but nothing at all like it is today.
The other thing is that beautiful talent tree they used to have. You might not have played back then to remember it, but I did. It was awesome. Imagine being able to control exactly what your strengths and weaknesses are as a character relative to your class. You could also have talents from other trees (like not just protection, but also from ret or maybe holy as well or vice versa). WoW was insanely cool back in the old days. But I would still be hard pressed to play it. You know why? Because it’s an eyesore. It would literally hurt my eyes to look at because not only are the graphics old, but they were low quality for the time, because not a lot of people had high-end graphics back then. So Blizz had to accommodate that. As a result, a veritable trashcan of graphic garbage.
So, since I live in 2019 and can buy a better looking game literally anywhere, I want classic WoW but with modern graphics. I would pay money for that.
Listen to this guy! Thank you Gildark.
