So Archaeology isn’t going to return as a profession it seems.
They’re looking for “different outlets” for that gameplay and rewards. Apparently Delves will sort of “scratch that itch.” And upcoming Azerothian Archives may also “scratch that itch” as a way to take another view of something sort of like Archaeology.
I should say though, Arch in our professions isn’t getting replaced or deleted. We just aren’t getting a new version.

Such a shame. They could have really done something with the Dragonscale Expedition, disturbed dirt, archeaology, and providing lore snippets.

I expect all those existing rewards will be cheap and ready-made trading post fodder

RIP.
I loved you, even if nobody else did.

Arch was one of my favorite things to do for a while. I still have a bunch of stuff to get, so I’m still slowly working on it as a side project. It’s zen-like to me.

I liked archaeology, enough to unlock everything. There were times through the last few expansions, I leveled toons to max digging. Of course it was to fight RNG by getting more and more solves, but it was a change of pace.
I feel bad for the Dwarven players. One of their racial abilities remains dead.

Well, I hope they move the rewards from it so others can still get them in some fashion.

It’s too bad. To me, it’s the secondary profession with by far the most potential. Hopefully, they can expand on the Dragonscale Expedition theme creatively.

I wonder if Shreds heard this news? He was quite vocal about archeology being a deal-breaker around the time he last posted.
I enjoyed reading his thoughts at times.

I did everything for it a while ago. It was relaxing.
Ah well.
They aren’t removing the profession. They’re just not adding anything to it.

I enjoyed archeology as it was when it was first introduced. Each new iteration made it less enjoyable to me.
But they say the vast majority of feedback says people didn’t really enjoy it, I don’t know why they would lie about something like that.

Alright, where are you … um … nice fellow players … giving the devs feedback that you don’t like the triangulation minigame?!

Again, unless I missed something they’re not removing what’s already there.
They’re just confirming that they won’t be adding anything new to that system.

I got no Archeology in SL, but adding a faction of pre-eminent archeologists to the game and not revamping the profession seemed like a big miss.

Maybe I should move that last line in my OP to the first line.
Edit: there, I bolded it. It is a tad misleading.

I think my title could be better. But I’m too lazy to change it. LOL
You’re good!

Losing Archaeology in an underground focused, dwarf focused, and titan focused storyline is an absolute crime.
You had all the ingredients to make something cool.

Not the first time blizzard dropped the ball…
SL had two zones and scholars dedicated to lore and nothing. Dragonscale expedition hugh waste of potential, dont get me started. Now WW and another miss.
Inscription and arch have been kicked so hard to the curb it’s infuriating that not a single dev can figure out how to make them relevant again.
Better still combine those two and create the explorer profession, which focuses on discovering new treasures/areas by deciphering texts for clue and piecing together fragments to make unique items or summon a rare encounter.
Edit to add: it would also make all world content worthwhile again.
