Going deep prot, but having rage/aggro generation issues. what do?

maybe youve forgotten what its like to do a dungeon when you don’t overgear/over level it? 2h Tank VC at level 18 as a 2h tank in mostly gray/white items with 3 greens and a level 18 healer in the same situation…

This is while leveling as well. I don’t want to a babysit a Warrior trying to RP their memories of tanking in Vanilla back in 2004, I want a tank that holds threat so i can just spam my conservative heal on him endlessly.

The moment I get a sword/board warrior threat is going everywhere and fights are longer. Just OOMs me babysitting that.

I get it, the aesthetic of the Sword Board protection Warrior is a vibe. It just sucks in dungeons, it is what it is.

Bear tanks are simply better if I want a beefy boy.

2H Arms tank (Post 36, before 36 bear is better) > Bear > Sword/Board Warrior

Befor 36

Bear > 2H Warrior > Sword/Board Warrior

Edit: And to make it clear, 2H Arms tank isn’t just slightly better than bear, it’s so broken it breaks the game. It is literally comically busted

maybe youve played the game so much you no longer really enjoy it? I’ve also played a lot but I still enjoy it. Some people who have played a lot have shifted what they love about it to something else like speed clearing stuff and parses, which isn’t wrong, but it is an entirely different vector of enjoying the game.

I love Vanilla, it’s why I’m here on SoD Era and HC. Vanilla is amazing

playing a druid as support in 5 man dungeons was some of the most fun ive had playing the game. Throw bleeds on enemies in cat, shift out for backup heals etc…

Playing Hardcore I found that the best setup for 5 man groups was not 1 tank 1 heal 3 dps, but 1 tank 1 heal 1 support 2 dps to ensure the entire group survived the dungeon. It was different from the speed clearing meta but so fun and intense

In original Vanilla, a prot Warrior was a blessing in leveling dungeons. He could take aggro of mobs and keep it.

Back in the days, a group of 4 mobs has a skull which was the main target, moon was sheep, star was second CC and the fourth mob was either off tanked by a pet or kited / double tanked. Everyone knew that the skull is attacked after three Sunders.

It was a simple scenario that every vanilla player did follow.

Sadly,

the retail and private server community has no patience, they won´t let the tank build threat, nor will they know about star and moon for CC. Classic is a slow game, people should understand that and not complain about the tank not holding aggro.

It´s not you OP,

just go in with Sunder Armor until three stacks, then let the DPS attack. Make sure they understand their CC targets, the healer will use fade if priest and you will be fine.

That being said, try to upgrade your weapon as often as possible. Shied slam is also very useful but the most important aspect is having a group of skilled players.

Yeah I feel like in HC he is probably not going in with a we can probably do this group. They are doing sure things yellow and green.

Crushing blows are a thing.

I wouldn’t go deep prot, but I wouldn’t exclusively 2h tank.

Everything comes down to situation. That is the reality. Sometimes you can 2h tank, sometimes you need a shield. Sometimes you swap mid fight. Alot depends on group comp. Especially having a sham or pal in the group. Horde 2h getting WF, pew pew. Alliance your dps getting salv and healer wisdom. etc.

That is definitely something I didn’t consider on how the faction advantages may shape someones opinion on this matter, good point.
