Ugh, it is the same thing I see in almost any thread from people who disagree with people who want some things… People want Dungeon Finder for all different reasons. The problem with retail is nothing to do with Dungeon Finder to why people play classic. It is the content. People do not want to play Retail just to do Anima Grind for pointless rewards, or weekly quest for RNG Rewards that are worthless. People do not want Borrowed Power, or a levelling system where progression means nothing when everything scales up with you as you level.
People who tell others “go play retail” need to go play retail themselves and find the real reason why retail is in a bad state.
Retail is just a completely different thing that is a hollow imitation of old. If retail had the same core gameplay with just more spells and new themes then it would be a fine argument. If blizzard wants the success they had with classic and to save retail they need to go back to where WoW was at it’s best so “go to retail” becomes an actual argument.
Which is why I argue for classic+ after wotlk. If the devs have no idea what to release then fine release cata+mop and then set aside some man power to develop a new story and stay far far away from the things people hate about retail.
Retail is so tainted at this point that this is the only way to me for a good future, a new retail.
OSRS did it with great success as RS3 was hot trash and Jagex knew that and embraced it and it flourished. Poll what people hate about retail and go from there with interesting story line.
Why would anyone want retail turned into classic? The numbers dwindling toward the end of classic, thus causing TBC to be released, should be a clear indicator that classic style WoW isn’t what people want. TBC also was dying out until the pre-patch and the same will happen toward the end of wrath. Those who enjoy retail don’t want this extremely slow and tedious game play style.
Are you sure? A lot of people say this, but I don’t think there’s much in the way of data that suggests we have a good idea of exactly why some people prefer Classic over Retail.
And as far as I know, WoW is still quite a bit more popular than WoW Classic.
I played it for a season, to get a feel for Death Knights, and it was a lot of fun. There are definitely some things I liked about it better than Classic. I preferred WoW Classic to Shadowlands, but Shadowlands to TBC Classic.
I think the thing is that when people are asking for Retail features, then “gO tO reTaIL” might sound like trolling to some, but it may actually be a decent suggestion.
It’s like people on fresh servers asking for server transfers. We have server transfers on every other server, do we really need to ruin fresh servers with them because some people have to have everything they want everywhere?
Anyway, certainly some people would like to see Dungeon Finder in Classic. Some also see benefits to not having Dungeon Finder. I have somewhat mixed feelings on it, but in some ways all the threads about it have given me a negative impression of people asking for it.
Nobody knows the the real data. But when RDF was actually added back in patch 3.3.0, there was no sub decline, because there is actual data on that, and RDF was in Wrath for a year before the release of Cata, which had another sub climb, then a decline, all for different reasons.
Well, as you say we don’t really know the reasons. Whether the impacts of Dungeon Finder took some time to manifest and a had long-term detrimental affect on shared social experiences among players.
Of course there could be completely different reasons for population decline. As I said, I have mixed feelings because I do remember enjoying spam running heroics using dungeon finder as a way to bypass the daily lockouts.
This is true, any time im confronted with someone who desperately wants a queu lobby game start to finish i tell them to go play FFXIV because its a good game that counteracts the queus socially in other ways in game. Theyd enjoy it there.
I love that game, i raided the 1st and 2nd coils back in the game. But its queuing for EVERYTHING even premade content takes me out of the world and i hate it. RDF for everything is legit why i cant play that game, that i would say is objectively better than classic wow in almost every regard.
Actually, on the topic about Final Fantasy, and I know I am really derailing my own thread here, but I find the RP in FFXIV so much more better than within WoW. Especially with all the emoji’s, and the outfits and stuff.
i added this part to the comment after you responded, so im hoping you take a look at this because this is the reason i find myself over here rallying against rdf.
When i say i would quit if i was forced to do rdf, like i mean it. it sucks, id still be playing FFXIV if i could enjoy that.
wow classic lacks rdf, lfr, and borrowed power. its one of the ONLY games i know that lacks those things, and its the only one with vertical progression and tank/heal/dps (GW2 is the other one)
It’s not a weak argument; it’s trolling and I flag trolls who say that.
RDF isn’t even used in Retail at max level. So right off the bat it’s in inaccurate statement. Meanwhile Blizz removes the authentic RDF and replaces it with a cobjob Retail tool, literally turning Wrath into Retail.
Beyond that, are people really saying that RDF defines Retail? That’s beyond idiotic. It exists so players can do dungeons while leveling. That’s it. Without it NO ONE would do low level dungeons (just like they won’t in Wrath). And RDF has no relevance at max level.
So that’s really their definition of Retail? A system to run some dungeons while leveling that isn’t used for endgame.
