Gnome Starting Zone proves We're missing a class

I Joined this game in Pandaria, and have played consistently since then. But in all my years playing WoW I had never, ever made a Gnome.

That was until last week, when on a whim, I went through the Gnome Starting zone.

After deciding on a Mage, I found myself very very disappointed.

The Gnome starting zone is awesome, but it’s missing something, There isn’t a class that “fits” the theme of the zone. There are Tinkers, Mechanics, and Technicians everywhere. Machinery is a core foundation of everything in Gnome society. Every single one of their buildings has Gears and Technology bursting at the seams.

But yet, I’m forced to pick a class that doesn’t represent those themes.
None of the classes do.

All of the classes in WoW have direct inspiration from Warcraft 3. But none of the Classes take inspiration from the Tinker Hero. Despite this however, Goblin and Gnomes have entire societies based around this concept.

Example:

Imagine if you could make a Night Elf, and see all of these beautiful world trees, and Moonwells. Only to find out that Night Elves can’t be Druids.

Or:

Imagine Playing as an Orc, and seeing their Shamanistic Culture, And The Throne of the Elements, Only to learn that they can’t be Shamans.

You can play as a Night Elf Druid
You can Play as a Human Paladin
But you CAN’T play as a Goblin or Gnome Tinker

Blizzard, There’s an obvious hole in the class roster.

No tinker class please. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

What makes you say that?

I’m not a fan of the idea no matter how it’s spun to me.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m impressed by how you painted the problem, very visual and you should be proud of your words.

But truth be told, I never see myself maining a tinker in all the ways it’s proposed should they make one. I could get behind a new class, but no tinker or it’s bastard bard cousin. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

To me, anything less than a new class based on unknown lore from one of the ‘unimaginable worlds’ we are told of upon entering the Maw, is wasting resources.

Huge opportunity for creativity with the afterlife theme going to waste if all we extract from the Maw is ‘tinker class’.

So, sorry I don’t agree, but that’s the ‘why’.

I Never see myself Maining Death Knight, but we got those anyways. The fantasy of that class doesn’t appeal to me. No matter how it’s spun.

Luckily, there are lots of other Races and Fantasies to fufill.

To be completely honest with you. Given your Name, Race, and Class. I assume you have a Fantasy you really like already.

While I see where you’re coming from, I think it would be very far against this game’s nature to add a class that isn’t based on “Warcraft”

I Understand that an Afterlife / Maw themed class would make sense given the context. But at the end of the day, This game is still called “World of Warcraft” and every class in the game is inspired by WarCraft 3.

That was the original Elevator Pitch for WoW. You play as a WC3 Hero, and team up with players and go on adventures

It’s 16 years later now, but that core Idea has remained the same.

I Think it’s VERY Unlikely that we’ll get a class that isn’t based on WarCraft 3, considering Blizzard has set 16 years of precedent towards the matter.

tinkers gonna tinkle

You know, you could just keep bumping a single “Add Tinker Class” thread instead of constantly starting new ones that basically ask for the exact same thing.

If people aren’t already on board with the idea by now, creating new threads about it every week is just going to annoy them and push them away from it even more.

Tinker is a better class choice than a bard.

lmao.

I’d still prefer Blademaster but eh.

No Thread bumps forever my son.

Besides, New reasons keep coming to light.

Maybe if there wasn’t such an obvious missing class, It wouldn’t be a problem.

Better than FF14 or WoW is dying threads.
At least I’m keeping the forums on topic.

If you dislike Tinker Threads, simply ignore them. By posting here you keep my thread alive. <3 Thanks.
Until then, I’ll keep making them to cut through all these stupid gloomy doomsayers.

Thanks Foxhound.

This is a fair enough point that I often forget having never played the offline wow games. It’s also a point that gets lost after playing so long.

However I also feel that now is the time to break the chains of wow3, move on and accept that time has progressed to where we come and go as we please from the afterlife.

A good lore breaker is what we need now. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

FYI: In regards to the name. No lore/fantasy is truly attached to it other than I have claws as a Druid and it sounds like autopsy.

Ok fine, I will out with the truth: I envision my Guardian would perform a really rough autopsy bordering on haphazard eviscerating. So, Clawtopsy. That’s my lore.

If only they had something you could choose instead. Maybe like a job, or let’s call it a profession. Building? No… Constructing? Terrible…Engineering! Perfect.

Abandoning what makes this game feel like “WarCraft” is not a good idea, at least in my opinion.

Even In Shadowlands, as far removed as it is from the RTS games, Still has Major Characters from WarCraft 3, References lore from WC3, and the classes still have abilities from WarCraft.

You call them “Chains”, sure. But they’re a big part of what makes WoW so special.

Professions don’t intersect with Classes, and never have.

I can’t wait for the Tinker class to finally be released… it (and necromancer) is long overdue… I’ll be rerolling my Gnome, Mechagnome, and Goblin into Tinkers in a heartbeat…

Honestly either Tinker or Necromancer should have been added as a new class with the release of SL… the end of BfA set up perfectly for Tinker to be added and the whole premise for SL was a flawless setup for Necromancers…

Reading the title, I thought I was going to be reading about some existing class that gnomes can’t play.

I’m always an advocate for more classes and races!, so I agree there should be more classes. Tinker, Dark Ranger, Necromancer, you name it! :ok_hand:t4:

But personally I just thought those Gnomes just have more an engineering profession.

Tinker is a weird fantasy class to fit into WoW and I think that is a part of why I feel uninspired by the idea. It could be sweet done right tho, maybe they could spin it into something really cool and change my mind. But tinker isn’t a class I would be excited for at first. I think some super cool sets of gear could be inspired by such a thing for sure. A tinker class would make more sense than a bard to me at least.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a fleshed-out tinker class but I would also need to have a fully realized necromancer class, too.

Agreed. Which is why introducing a new class from the Maw would not be an abandonment. It would be a continuation of the saga.

Tinker is anti fun, nothings more annoying than someone who gets a single item and an teleport all over the map spamming march of the machines and rockets while perma hexxing half the enemy team.
