yeah I saw that.
Why would Blizzard want to reward people who havent subbed in years, already complain about a product they havent seen and likely will leave after briefly trying it because it didnt live up to their expectations? I am asking because I am genuinely curious. Also, it comes across as pretty arrogant to think people currently subbed are somehow less capable of testing this, dont you think?
well, they want to make sure that real people get the beta invites
This is the only real thing I have an issue with. Requiring a sub in order to participate in beta, tho? You know the people currently subscribed to your game are more interested in blizzard content than those with lapsed subs. Obviously thereâs the crowd thatâs salivating for classic who are not subscribed, but statistically theyâre a small group. Shotgunning every current and former subscriber with beta invites doesnât make sense.
I got into legion alpha. Didnât get into BFA alpha tho. I think itâs random.
Youâre right, they should only give it to doms
Classic is suppose to bring back the people that are not playing the current game!
Like it or not, it is up to Blizzard how they want to make Beta available. They could charge $100 (and likely not get many takers), but it is entirely up to them. Nobody is entitled to anything.
Since what year did this start, I have been gaming for 23 years and never heard of this until You tube trash and Twitch trash came about. This is why gaming has turned into garbage the last 9 years. Some of those so called content creators are toxic and they only speak for a small amount of players period. Lets just call it what it is free advertisement.
they can sub like everyone else and play when it launches.
Allow me answer your question with a question:
Why would Blizzard (or any publicly traded corporation for that matter) spend the resources to create a throwback version of a game for existing customers only? (And if the only people that play and/or stick around are those that are already subbed, thatâs exactly what theyâre doing.) Thereâs no additional subscription here. Thereâs no box to be sold. No cash shop to speak of. And while pondering on this, consider that subscription numbers used to be much, much higher.
Well, that depends on your answer to my first question. If they are trying to appeal to existing customers, then itâs at least foolish to think that anyone but current subscribers should be testing. On the other hand, if theyâre trying to bring back those vast hordes of subscribers (no offense to Alliance players intended), then it is foolish to test for the most part with their current subscribers. Any arrogance would have to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
[Edit: Typo]
âsensâ - I thought maybe you just misspelled it in the title, which I admit triggered me a bit, but then you typed it twice. Stop being so angry, you might learn to spell better.
âEnjoying BoAâ - Bind on Account makes no sense in this sentence (see what I did there?), so what the heck are you referring to?
OK, so now that my spelling trigger has subsided, thereâs no way to know whether most players that want to be in Beta are the ones currently subbed or not subbed. Iâm subbed, and I will definitely participate in Beta if given a chance. Several of my friends will as well.
Yes, it is supposed to bring them back. It is not supposed to be a free ride. They can sub like the rest of us.
I see what you are saying, but it just doesnt work with a modern business model. As a business, Blizz wants people to come back as paying customers. There is absolutely zero incentive to have beta testers who parted ways before and who would very likely use this as more of a test drive than anything else. I am sorry, but based on the comments on these forums posted by self proclaimed unsubbed folks, it is a real stretch to think that many of them want beta access for any other reason than to see if they want to spend money that subs already are spending.

Letting people try your games for free is a great way to people to get pay for them. You have no idea what you are talking about. If this wasnt the case why would Blizzard let people try current WoW for free? Why would devs put out demos for free weekends if that wasnt a good way to get people to pay for the game?
Are you kidding? Seriously asking because tone doesnt come through text. If you arent, then the long and short of it is that this is a 15 year old game. You know what you are getting. You are welcome to play it for free on August 27 if you have a sub. That is a whole game free. This is merely a test, not your own personal time to decide if you want to pay for it. Get over yourself.

All those years of "Weâll pay anything for legit Vanilla!* apparently didnât mean paying a subscription.

Its a beta. Its not a released game.
This. Happens. With. Every. Modern (BLIZZARD). Beta.
Itâs free publicity for Blizzard. This is a âbetaâ, but they can get people to both test their games and advertise their games. Itsâ more a marketing ploy than a beta. This is a 15 year old game.
