Wanding was just fine. Unload on a mob, finish it off with a wand and get your mana back. Move on to next mob.
No different to Hunters having different quality ammo.
Casters would downcast to conserve mana.
Now its button mashing to epic gear and still finding things to complain about.

Guns wouldn’t be that effective against an armoured target using Ned Kelly as a basis meanwhile a fire ball with enough heat to be lethal would likely cause the metal to turn molten like why would you use a gun.
You know that attack Nerubians use, where they send out a wave of spiders to attack us? Give Mages the same thing, except with cats.

Warmachine/Iron Kingdoms setting has pistol mages that channeled their magic into runes carved on their bullets. Also had pistol wraiths as the undead version
