I have a worgen alt, and I’m… so confused about where the Gilneans are currently based. Is it Stormwind now??
To be fair, Stromgarde was in the game longer than Gilneas… but I share your desire to have it be a real, bustling city.
I will forgive Sylvanas for all past transgressions if she gives us a cure for blight infected areas cause I’m tired of zones being out of commission due to being blight bombed.
The blight isn’t even a problem in Gilneas. The Forsaken never pushed south of Gilneas city so the blight was only ever used in the north, and you can visit the north during levelling quests and the rogue legendary quest, and it’s unblighted!
Zero reason Genn hasn’t begun a rebuilding effort yet.
Fleas.
Stromgarde was more relevant. Control of Arathi gives control of the Thandol Span, the only land link between the two halves of EK. Huge strategic advantage the factions fought over.
Gilneas is able to be reclaimed. Or at least it’s deserted and with the forsaken now largely shoved out of the region the Alliance can probably just walk in and take it back. But it’s a clean up project, lots of work to do. And at the time of BfA it didn’t matter compared to Arathi, not with an active war going on.
Just have Jaina frost nova it like she did Lordaeron. lol
Having the Gilneans reclaim their kingdom and take in the night elves the same way they took them in would be a great way to repay the hospitality they were offered in Darnassus, in my opinion.
Also, Genn literally swears to his dead son that they’ll return… yet he seems to have forgotten about that
He couldn’t do it in the past because the Horde controlled that whole side of the world. They would never allow an Alliance kingdom to set up shop on the forsaken’s doorstep. That’d be a declaration of war. Genn could not make that decision on his own, even though he wanted to. He doesn’t control the Alliance and has to think about the people’s safety first.
But now the faction war is over and the forsaken have lost a lot of territory. Currently the Alliance owns Arathi and southern Hillsbrad, they’re rebuilding Southshore right now. The Horde still controls the rest of Hillsbrad, but Gilneas can probably be negotiated back without provoking a fight if worded carefully. We’ll see what happens in the future!
There’s also the gameplay issue though that the Horde needs to gain an equivalent zone/city too. If they don’t cries of faction favoritism and unfairness will rage through the playerbase.
Well if its any consolation, the updated zones didn’t actually do anything at all.
Auberdine was completely rebuilt but there’s no boats, NPCs, anything to interact with. Just very pretty, empty space
The Alliance has controlled Gilneas for ages. The premise of the Stromgarde warfront is that the Horde needed a new base of operations from which to contest Gilneas, following the loss of the UC. All that remains for Genn is to actually resettle his people and begin reconstruction.
Gilneas will probably never be reclaimed. The Forsaken turned the land into a Blighted wasteland.
That was actually retconned during development. In the finalized version of the Arathi Warfront, Gilneas isn’t mentioned at all as far as I’m aware. By the time BfA released, the “official” word on Gilneas’ status was that it was an abandoned ruin destroyed by the Forsaken Blight, despite some references to a reclaimed Gilneas still remaining in the Alliance mission table missions.
That’s why people have called Gilneas “Schrödinger’s Kingdom” and similar names. For a while, we were constantly getting conflicting lore over the current status of Gilneas, which was almost certainly the result of devs coming to blows against one another over the lore direction for the kingdom.
Honestly, I think WoW could win big time by just adding a short(ish) storyline of reclaiming Gilneas and then we have that is a new city for the recently homeless Elves and Worgans!
Never going to happen now that most people play Horde.
Wasted development time and resources blah blah, we know the schtick by now.
i agree I’d love to see it happen but the sad reality is a big, fat, NOPE.
The real problem is, WoW is very quickly winding down, some will try and deny it until the bitter end, but we see it everyday.
Expect to see more streamlined versions of everything going forward, as the dev team scrambles to get as much of the story out as they can before WoW goes into pure maint. mode, if it’s not already.
You’ll get your rebuilt Gilneas when we get our rebuilt Silvermoon.
Should be any day now.
Honestly that would also be cool, we need more cities that get reclaimed/rebuilt, i mean Stormwind got fixed, why not older areas!
The Night Elves need to move in with the Worgen in Gilneas since their home was destroyed. Just like when the Worgen moved in with the Night Elves in Darnassus when their home was destroyed. I saw a few trees in the Worgen starting quests. Everyone will be happy.
The two races architectural aesthetics combined would be pretty damn cool if they updated Gilneas, and worgen probably owe the night elves.
Unfortunately I think blizz will just leave us all homeless.
