Gilgoblin Allied Race suggestions/discussion

Yeah, but Vulpera didn’t have the disadvantage of being chemically lobotomized for the majority of their species existence. They also have a have a history that (at least in lore) existed beyond 3 decades AT THE MOST. Also, what you’re talking about is essentially create literal Water Goblins (with no variance beyond being Goblins, but a water theme)? That sound awful … It sounds like rather than enhancing the Goblin Core Race culturally, it would merely dilute it with a cheap pallet swap.

Ooh it would be cool if they drove goblin technology in a new direction then. The gnomes in mechagon have advanced heavily in their mechanical creations, but with gilgoblins proving themselves useful…perhaps Hobart’s experiments with mutagens will be allowed to flourish. And we do have plenty of old god material to work with…

As a weird side-note, I’m more or less certain those female GilGoblins are using the old Goblin Rigs. Their textures are certainly up to more BfA standards (though, I’m not sure what they’re going to do with the eyes) … but those underlying models are certainly not the advertised Goblin upgrades.

Strange…

I definitely understand why you are concerned and I am frankly not happy either with some of the ways blizzard has portrayed goblins in some instances. However I think that Gilgoblins can be amazing if done right. Imagine if they come up with a vast underwater industrial society for us to explore that Gilgoblins created. If not this expansion, possibly in the future. Remember that these are some of our first impressions of the new Gilgoblins and what we mostly remember is the old ones. We will have to see what kind of content they roll with Gilgoblins to really know how we feel.

I felt a similar way about Kul’tirans in beta BFA. However when I actually saw Kul’tiras and their lore, my mind about them changed drastically.

One of the Gilgoblins in the Nazjatar preview(male one) is high poly. This almost certainly will change in the future. Most instances in which blizzard updated models for playable characters, they updated npc models for new areas.

The one in this picture is high poly.

Look, I get that there is “potential” for that … but they are NOT going to have that when we meet them. Any potential for that underwater industrial society exists way, WAY in the future … and considering just how neglected actual Goblins are in this game already; I’m not sure I’m banking on Blizz putting more work into the GilGoblins than they’ve ever shown towards ACTUAL Goblins.

Part of the reason Wix is even still our racial leader is because Blizz is just too lazy to build up a replacement for him; so they instead sort of soft-retconned a lot of the Lost Isles content for our starting zones (by omission) to justify it. I’m genuinely excited for the Goblin Model upgrades, but … story-wize I’m not banking too much on Blizz doing much with my favorite race.

If nothing else, I don’t have to worry about as many “IFs” for Vulpera … and at least I think more people would get enjoyment out of them than Gils. Sad to say, Goblins ARE the least played core race in the game (even behind pandarens) … I can’t imagine how absurdly rare a GilGoblin player would be.

There is a lot of people in the Goblin Mega Discord that are thrilled for them. Most were excited when I brought up the news about the female Gilgoblin model.

If Vulpera had been a playable race since cata, and we were just meeting goblins right now and there was an likely aquatic version of them thought to be their AR, they would be in a similar situation right now. Any short race is automatically going to be niche. The thing about Vulpera is that they would be a lot more unique. This is why there is so much hype for them. However it is also this uniquess that kind of disqualifies them as an AR to goblins specifically.

Just slides on in here cackling in Nerglish

I am freaking hyped that the chance for Gilblin Allied race has potentially gone up. Even more so since after looking at a model page my girlfriend made the observation that they have a Druid potential

i.e. :
Cat Form = Snapdragons
Travel Form = Sea Shark - Air, Crab(?) - Land, Wolf Eel - Aquatic
Bear Form = Crab(?)

May be a long shot but dang if I am not going to hope XD

Wowhead just released a picture of the full Gilgoblin female models. Most of the goblin discord is ecstatic now.

You can find more of the skins and hairstyles seen here. Just zoom down to the Gilgoblin part.

Even a new hairstyle?! I’m loving this

Have a look at some of those other sea creature models too. Helps you picture if these things can be druids. Gilgoblins strike me as the sort that would be closer to nature.

Omg they even have different ear styles!

Well this day has been quite a pleasant surprise. I wonder what else we are going to find out about these Gilgoblins. I am eager test things out. Is Nazjatar actually playable on the PTR right now>

I know for a fact that I’ll likely make a male Gilblin Survival Hunter if we get them as an allied race. If they can be druids, and the druid forms look neat, I might look at the female customization options for a possible feral druid.

Man, it’s going to be fun seeing the storyline for the Gilblins.

Although now that I look closer, the models are worse quality than I thought. It seems that instead of giving the male gilgoblins updated models, they decided to make fitting females.

Mage: Descend from a mage race, and have extensive contact with naga arcane users. Gilgoblin “aquamages” exist, which are presumably related.

Hunter: No reason why they can’t tame any undersea beasts. Their starter pet could be a crab like the goblins, but of the hermit or spined variety. Nazjatar is also introducing some swimmy critters, like nudibranchs and snap dragons.

Shaman: Descend from a shamanistic race, and have a connection to the element of water.

Rogue: They have hands and no hooves, and a rogue appears to be depicted in Hearthstone.

Warrior: They have hands.

Quoted from Gilblin under his"Most likely classes". These are the core classes that I typically think of as being most goblin with the exception of mage. Usually warlock more comes to mind. However I don’t recall Gilgoblins really practicing warlock magic. Who knows.

This will probably change in the future when they update the goblin models. When models get updates, they usually update npc models in recent areas as well. It is also worth noting that there is a high poly goblin male model one of the earlier previews.

And that is some pretty hd hair compared to the skin texture, so you might be right

I’ve had different types of aquatic music in my head while thinking about Gilblins. I should gather a list of them to play while I plan out my potential character’s background or to play while exploring Nazjatar. ^^

(Less funny without the music video but idk if it breaks the rules)

You know what, I may never play a Goblin since I am connected with my Gnome characters (Blizzard, I’m waiting for Paladin for Gnomes x.x), I wouldn’t mind something like this to happen for the Goblins. And there is a connection being established in the next patch, so… why not give them a chance and get another Allied Race or at least customization options for the Goblins? They… kind of need it aside from just a remodel since… when was the last time they get another class combo?

They look terrible, like every other Allied race, so we might end up getting them indeed.
