Getting shafted for customisation options

Warlocks:
“Oh hey, how about some fel or demonic customisa —”

Demon Hunters:
“NO! That’s stealing what is rightfully ours!”

Warlocks:
“Oh …kaaaay, how about we focus on the dark arts instead of just the demonic & chaotic then? So, maybe touch base on some of the old lore & dabble into necromancy, with some —”

Death Knights:
“NO! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: Necromancers don’t use staffs & cloth, stupid!
Necromancers have only ever been melee. Gosh, only Death Knights can use necromancy.”

Warlocks:
" … Maybe we could just get some different kind of magic stuff, like with our fire or the shadow / void perha —"

Fire Mages & Shadow Priests:
"NEIN! … Unless we get some too. "

:point_up_2: Ultimately how customisation suggestions go :point_up_2:

I mean, the Fire Mage & Shadow Priest protest is a fair one, but jeeze …

  • You suggest some customisation options for anything else on the forums & you just get shutdown, bullied & belittled.

Not just warlocks either … For instance:

  • I remember once someone suggesting to get light visuals for shadow-spec (To help their RP as a Lightforged Draenei) – and some narc Pally suggested them using light is too close to paladins & its ripping off them … I remember thinking at the time: “You know priests have two other specs than shadow, right?”

I mean, with the right lore and maybe some shared features amongst specs & classes:

  • Such as being earned through the same kind of questline and applied to the same sort of cosmic power used (Eg. Crimson Revendreth visual for those that use shadow-spells) – I really don’t see why people have to be so toxic.

Customisations, especially if it helps benefit or grow lore & give some player-agency — is a good thing.

I’m confused. Didn’t Warlocks just get a bunch of demon customizations?

Yes. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

That’s something I was actually happy about.

  • That being said though, because a class got 1 handful of customisations it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get any more ever again.

And as mentioned in the thread however — This problem extends beyond just warlocks. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Indeed they did. I think he means skins as in themes for spells and such. Perhaps even scars/tatts etc… Barber shop stuff…

Kinda like the green fire quest… Or at least that’s how I took it.

If that’s the case, yes please! I’m still dreaming of the day I can play a void Pally, devoted to the old gods with the deepest blackest eyes you’ve ever seen.

I’ve seen people ask for different spell effects to be implemented like green fire. I don’t remember people screaming no about it. I mean, you’ll always have a few people who are against things, but that’s the nature of opinions.

Yeah it is. Which is why it’s good that warlocks have gotten such things. Class quests for green fire and different demon forms. Even more demon forms dotted throughout old content that they can farm for. Hell, they get more love in this way than even druids.

I don’t get this at all. I don’t get the whole ‘You can’t have these customizations they only belong to group x’. Like…why? Any fel related customizations given to Warlocks would look very different from Demon Hunters.

Any necromancy customizations would look different from DKs.

So often I have people telling me that because I play a demon hunter I just want to steal things from Warlocks. And I have to be like ‘my guy I do not work for Blizzard I have no way of stealing anything from any class.’ :dracthyr_crylaugh:

warlocks are one of the most customizable classes with the demon skins and green fire. i dont think they are getting “shafted” at all.

they’re actually way above average for character customization.

warlocks are spoiled. they literally have a different skin customization for their fire spells. there is NO other class that has that.

I remember back in the day when people were asking for Demon Hunters to be playable, I kept saying, “Sure, but they’ll have to take things from Warlocks, since they got some of their iconic abilities.” People were like,“Nah!”

Lo and behold… I’ll never forget the day meta was removed and then given to DHS and then poo hit the fan. lol

There’s some serious bitterness out there.

For me, I don’t see the problem with spell effects. Or tattoos. Or eye colors. But that’s just me.

I was one of those people who wanted Demon Hunters. I play every class, but Demon Hunters are what got me to come back to the game after WoD. I’d wanted Demon hunters since TBC.

I am a huge demon hunter lore fanatic. So I get it. All of the lore for them in Cata was so good!

No reason two classes can’t share similar abilities.
Paladin and Priest have even done so since vanilla and that was a non-issue. Yet for warlocks, DH and DK it is.

Everyone but Elves and Druids are getting shafted for customization.

I think about this every time I’m playing my BDK. I’m just like bro, wtf is this class aesthetic. If it wasn’t for my purple, corruption, black and grey tmog, I would look identical to an Arms Warrior in style, you would not be able to tell me apart from one until I used an iconic DK ability like Raise Ghoul or Slappy Hands and Slappy Hands isn’t even a DK thing, it matches nothing on DK lmao.

Which got added at the behest of a fired dev…

Who just so happened to be one of the better and most sociable devs they had.

He even tried to give warlocks tanking. They actually had a fully functional tanking spec in MoP but the other devs disabled the effect of their taunt on bosses.

Yep, but that’s not enough for the entitlement of this poster.

Still hoping for Shadowflame cusotmization in the future.

As for Necromancy I’ve made my stance clear in previous topics (some of which are my own) but I kind of wish Priest “Shadow” spec was Necromancy themed instead of focusing on corpses and zombies like Death knights, go with ghosts and spirits because Priests are a spiritual class same with Shaman. Reason for that desire is due to a character in Trials of Mana, a Cleric who one of their subclasses is a necromancer and thinking on it, it kind of makes a lot of sense.

I think the thread is less about that and more about this:

  • You suggest some customisation options for anything else on the forums & you just get shutdown, bullied & belittled.

Which happens in pretty much every thread, every time.

“Warlocks are just now getting Demon customization after 40 years”

Yeah that sounds really entitled. I guess since they got a sprinkle, it’s time to move on to Blood DK. Honestly, all their abilities need a red streak or red spray effect that happens, also flies and maggots should burst out sometimes. Where is the creativity in this game?
