Getting raid ready as a fresh 85 in Firelands patch

I was something like 327 when I reached max level.

From there I’ve opened the Molton front for the two 365 pieces, and got the rep piece from Hyjal. I’ve also been running regular dungeons to gain familiarity and have about 2000 JPs. I’m currently sitting about 337 with two more sub 333 pieces to replace.

Is my gear path - heroic dungeons to 346, inferno dungeons after that to catch up? I’ve read comments that people want more than 346 to do inferno dungeons but I’m not sure how else to get higher level gear besides the molton front eventually.

I think the target for raid ready for Firelands is 358. It’s not clear how to get there. I can’t find the thing that used to suggest gear upgrades back in the day.

What would you do if you were me?

run the zandalari dungeons and normal heroics to be able to get a bit over the 346 ilvl, use the valor from them to buy 378 gear, along with the 346/353 drops as well as using the justice to buy pieces of 358 gear. once you get to about 350 then i’d say you’ll be good to run the inferno dungeons if you are shadow, if disc/holy you may want some more gear idk, depends on the tank and dps

Queue infernos at 346, that’s the required item level. But also, people will try to kick you from infernos if you’re 346.

The game makes the rules, but the players govern the rules. The game says you’re allowed to queue infernos at 346, but most players don’t want to carry undergeared strangers.

Right… but how do you get above 346 if people will kick you from the content you do to get above 346? What is the alternate path? Fully buy 358 gear with justice (I thought JP gear was 346 also so maybe that’s it?)

There’s craftable gear that you can make or buy, and also JP and VP gear. Also just running normal heroics or Troll dungeons, you should be able to get to 346 in a day or two (depending on how much time you have to play.) As for getting kicked, I almost never get kicked for low dps, and I play a lot of off meta specs. I just hit 85 on my Hunter alt two days ago, and haven’t been kicked yet, despite only doing 15k single target. As long as you know how to maximize your class and enchant/gem your gear, you shouldn’t get kicked.

Normal, non inferno heroics give valor and they take less time. Molten front gives i365 gear but will take a few weeks to get marks.

Don’t forget rep gear. You may not have that much rep, but get the tabards when spamming dungeons. Even the crap 333 at friendly can be a quick upgrade to get you to 346 faster.
Plus crafted & boe and running ZA/ZG. Regular heroics are probably fast early in the week if people who don’t need infernos anymore are getting their valor runs in. These will get you rep and 346.

T11 valor gear now sells for justice points… i forgot about that. Grab a 2pc right away… also try and get into a baradin hold. It’s hard on my server to get a run as disc or mage, but ymmv.

You have options
Go farm heroics for gear
Go do ZA/ZG heroics
rep grind vendors
crafted gear and other BoEs
Do T11 raids
Get into a BH run
Valor and JP vendors

You may have to que up some normal to get into the item level window for heroic ques. But if you hit a few of the blue items in zones leveling up or hit 5 mans hard on the 80-85 range you probably are close if not there. If a little short look on the AH, the blue 346 gear is usually dirt cheap these days.

Que normal heroics until 346, it wont take long bc the JP can get you 359 stuff and drops you pick up along that time. Also, you will be getting valor, so the road to 378s starts to open as well and can pick up some stuff along the way there too.

Que for ZGs as well. Its drops are better than 346, although the ques sometimes aren’t as great. They also are a HAIR harder, I could consider it mostly a change up, but it does give better valor points over time.

Once you are in that 346-350 range just start hitting the infernos in the que. Use those stones to get high end stuff from last tier. Sometimes you will run into jerks that kick you… it happens… but most people are so worried about gogogogogogo that checking people isn’t to high on the list.

Try to find a BH10 and 25 each week. Most people don’t check them to tightly bc the boss is an absolute joke. Odds are low on a hit, but with it being class/spec runs mostly a drop means a hit most the time. Also scoops you up some valor as your eyes start to get tired of the 5 mans.

BOEs are an option but if you are totally fresh gold might be tight, but just food for thought – the 359 stuff and 378 stuff available there.

Rep also has some gear, I probably would aim mostly at getting your head and shoulder enchants handled first even though they may or may not have items you are looking for as a priority. In the long run this will make you happier once you start to gear up a bit.

It really is SUPER simple to get up to 370+ item level these days. From there normal GDKPs become an option/normal guilds looking for players/normal pugs. You might find your way into some heroic level Firelands runs as well, but don’t be disappointed if that doesn’t happen. GDKP road is usually ideal because you start getting cash even if you aren’t getting items right away, but I know some people dislike them… so just go with how YOU feel on that. BUT, once you hit this point you are there, you are mostly caught up and rocking and rolling.

The honest answer is get into Inferno’s asap. It sucks for the people you queue with, but as long as its not one of the annoying 5m no one will care.

If you can get a guild ahead of time to do a little carrying it will save you an insane amount of time by jumping into infernos and just getting that 372 gear asap.

Once you have your valor semi capped for the week which will allow you to buy 2p t12 and probably another item at this point see if you can get into FL trash runs to get cloak/belt and possibly a trash drop.

BAsically do heroics until you can queue ZA/ZG then do those as long as you have actual upgrades from them. IF you only have an upgrade from one just queue that once a day.

Get JP/VP gear and try to go for slots that aren’t covered by inferno stone gear.

Once you can do inferno dungeons start running those.

And make sure you’re wearing a tabard to get rep for whatever faction has gear you want, at least one or two will have 359 gear that can use.

And if you’re willing to spend some gold there’s crafted and boe’s, VP bracers are easy to come by if you don’t mind dropping a few thousand.

As a tank who can find myself frustrated by low dps when I queue for random infernos I pay extra attention to if that person is at least performing their task correctly. If they’re the lowest dps I’m looking for all the interrupts, soothes, etc.

I had a rogue in deadmines yesterday that was doing less than half of my prot pally damage but he was interrupting things, freeing the chained monkeys, and drove the mech in the forge without anyone asking. To me that kind of player is worth more than they would if they had 3x the damage.

Try humanizing with your group by just outright saying “hello everyone, sorry if I’m not top charts it’s a fresh 85”. Suddenly you’re a person and not an anonymous dps kick they don’t think twice about.

I’d be more annoyed if the carry was a person who didn’t follow mechanics. When I can tell a person clearly hasn’t got a clue what they’re doing but are in there on the highest difficulty of the place with the bare minimum to get in.

them making inferno dungeons 346 is ridiculous. a group of 346 players ALL 346 like the requirement suggests is a disaster waiting to happen especially in a pug. They should have made it 353 ilvl to get in and even then it’s going to take a long time to complete these, especially the longer ones. Expect over an hour on deadmines, HoO, and even SFK. I’ve had more wipes in SFK then any other dungeon.

bruh’s talking about gdkps when they just started up. SMH. No one wants a leacher in gdkps. Going in with never the intent to buy anything.
