Getting Lag Spikes?

Lately I’ve been getting lag spikes all the time in WoW which cause my game to freeze up for a bit before going back to normal. When I check my latency it looks fine and without any problems. The rest of my internet is working fine also. Does anyone have a fix for this maybe?

A post was split to a new topic: Lag spikes

Zachas,

When these lag spikes happen and things freeze up, are you able to move your character around but unable to interact with the world?

It sounds like you’re not able too, which indicates this may be a performance issue instead of a network one. But please describe the issue in more details as well.

I’d recommend trying to reset your game settings first and see if the issue persists.

If it does, post a copy of your DxDiag file so we can get a look at the system information.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

Yes. When I get these lag spikes, I’m able to move my character, but everything / everyone else is frozen and I’m unable to interact with objects.

I did what you recommended when it comes to resetting my game settings. I then logged back in after resetting my game and still have the same issue.

I’ve gotten a copy of my DxDiag file on my computer now. Do you want me to copy - paste the whole entire document here, or just a portion of it? Thanks.

Zachas,

Thanks for the update. If you are able to move around then I was backwards and its more likely something network.

Try running the WinMTR tool in the background. Let it run for 10-15 minutes while playing but make sure the issue does happen during that time. Then collect the results and past them in your reply so we can get a look at the connection path.

When I hit start on that program it says ‘no host specified’. What am I supposed to enter in the host window for it to start running? Sorry, I’m not really sure how to do this.

Zachas,

The WinMTR tool needs a destination to test too, it’s host. The page linked has a menu near the bottom that will let you select which game you’re playing to find that host.

For Turalyon, that would be US central: 24.105.62.129

Thank you, I’m running it now. I’ll try and get back to you with the info from it soon.

Hi, it’s still me. The forum said ‘please wait for others to participate’ when I tried to post again because I just posted so I’m replying on an alt.

These are the results I’ve gotten. Hopefully I’ve done it right and this will be helpful.

I had to put a space in the results that end with .com or .net because the forum considers these links and won’t let me post them.

So, I have another update about this issue.

A bit ago I read another forum post talking about ‘unbearable lag in Zuldazar only’. The poster of that thread is also on Turalyon, just like me.

I logged back into WoW, took the portal from Zuldazar to Orgrimmar, and now that I am outside of Zuldazar I am no longer getting any lag spikes. The game seems to be working fine outside of that zone.

I don’t think this issue is on my end. Maybe there’s an issue with Turalyon and Zuldazar specifically? I’m not sure. Thank you for the help so far though Jurannok.

Zachas,

If it only occurs in one zone, then what Judex posted is most likely the issue. There’s a long standing bug with certain zones specifically when there are a ton of players in them which causes things like spell delays and problems interacting with things. If you don’t have the problem in the vast majority of areas, and only new zones do it to you, that’s probably the issue.

This is exactly the same issue I am having, too. Started probably 2-3 days ago only, though (albeit I see this issue dates back quite far as stated).

That said, the ‘fix’ of enabling War Mode has resolved my issue - although that’s not exactly the fix I was looking for, as I do not wish to PVP but hey … being able to play is better than not.

Thanks for the info. I took Protox’s advice and turned on War Mode. From what I’ve seen so far now, I haven’t gotten the lag issue again now that War Mode is on.

i been having same issue i was embarrassed last night helping guild group friend’s in middle of the fight i start lagging and disconnecting cause of the lag is mostly world lag… not home idk what is wrong last past few days and these days more constants having these delays… could you find way to help me fix it?

Unfortunately Blizzard doesn’t know what exactly is causing the issue (or isn’t willing to admit publicly) beyond that it has to do with sharding. There is nothing you can do aside from try turning on War Mode or finding someone who isn’t lagging in General chat and have them invite you to a group which should (hopefully) shift you into their shard and stop the lag. I don’t know if the second option works in the non-city zones or not but I have tried it myself because I have two accounts and although both characters were in Boralus only one was lagging. I used the non-lag toon to invite the laggy one and once the party was formed (which took like 4 minutes due to the lag) everything was normal for both toons.
