Getting into GDKPs

GDKPs are cool and all… but has anyone noticed that Kara PUGS are mostly GDKPs now? I’d be fine with that, but they want people to come in as “pure buyers,” which means you don’t get a cut.

Do people really commit to this crap? Agreeing to not get a payout and to not have a guarantee on loot is insane.

you can choose to join another one or as a normal participant. Pure buyers are generally in quest greens/early blue gear.

If you are not a pure buyer, then just say no.

That’s the rub.

“LFM - Kara GDKP - Need tank, healer, pure buyers”

Not much else going on when I’ve looked.

Welcome to being dps.

Yeah, I don’t even bother with PuGs. I wouldn’t be all that surprised if this behavior causes a demand for a personal loot system.

My guild runs a Saturday Kara most weekends with all guildies alts, no gold required. That’s why I prefer being part of an organized guild than relying on GDKP pugs.

lol wtf are all these weird GDKPS? Buyers dont get a payout at all?
There are some on my server with the craziest splits, incentives, consume checks and all this bs

what OP is describing is not a GDKP run, it is a carry-buying run.

No it’s a standard GDKP run, if noone is buying what’s the point?

Thats because even though they say GDKP 100g with prince loot being 300g. or 300 and 500g which i find to be yikes, its mostly people looking to get carried on fresh 70. while some are chasing after loot from prince, who is you’re main money maker since majority of the gear in kara is just unwanted. i have a guildy who goes to them when he says the gold might not be that great, its an easy 300-1300g each week for 2 hours.

There aren’t Kara GDKPs.
There are “Kara Tickets” where you PAY to be ran by other uber-geared players. You get the loot that drops and you want, regardless of what drop. You pay a fixed price.

unironcally thats the fastest way to gear up. you buy some gears and you’ll get your cut from next week on. and you save some gold to buy some more to join T5 /T6 raids. no dramas , no loot rules, no nothing but gold. pure efficiency.

I see pugs all the time for kara, and with the badges dropping in kara soon you’ll be seeing way more regular pugs.

Yeah I love GDKPS though never done one As a pure buyer before might soon though gonna get ret pally power leveled for wrath

LFM: GDKP Kara; 100/50 buy-in, pst

((Meaning, even with Personal Loot, you have need to bid to get invited. So, 100 is the start and 50 is the increment. The raid ‘locks in’ Tank and Healer, while the DPS have to bid against each other.))

What’s in it for the tank or healer? Do they get gold? Why would any decently geared tank or healer join the gdkp?

I could be mistaken as I haven’t been on retail in ages, but even with personal loot, can’t it be set to master loot for any group that’s entirely same realm, and function as the current classic system does?

On a different note, I was thinking about that same personal loot solution to all the GDKP degeneracy that’s infested the game now. And while I’d love to dance over the grave of the GDKP meta, I’m not sure at this point, that the population can survive the die off from either the whales who buy their way through gdkps to gear out, or the players who demean themselves by selling themselves out carrying those whales as their means of gold farming (that ends up being many times more lucrative than any other in game activity).

It’s absolutely terrible for the game either way, really.

EDIT: Also @ op… don’t bother with a kara gdkp… just buy the s1 pvp set over a week or so with honor then skip to SSC/TK for attunes to the BT/Hyjal runs… The gear in the early tiers is pretty dramatically overrated imo… and nothing on kara level is worth spending gold on… Hell looking at SSC/TK runs right now for one of my toons to be able to run hyjal/bt, and barely anything in either ssc or TK is worth buying either.

People still try to build PuGs for normal raids exclusively on their own realm in retail?

LOL, I don’t.

The reason I asked that, was because if memory serves, the wotlk dungeon finder is strictly dungeons only, and you can’t cross realm raid… So even in a hypothetical personal loot system, a gdkp would still be able to operate a raid with master loot (assuming they they can still toggle that option).

You aren’t the OP (original poster). That bit was directed @ him =P

We’re all very proud of you and your guild. From what I can tell, most guilds have moved past that.

That’s what they’re saying. You have a chance at blowing your raid lock and not getting anything.

What the hell does irony have to do with this?

I used to… Now it’s GDKPs with weird restrictions.

My understanding is that the tanks and healers get cuts. It tends to be the DPS that has to be willing to take the hit.

I’m not really interested in getting PvP gear… I’d like to do a standard Kara pug that either has a free roll, or a GDKP where I get a cut.
