Getting Gold in Classic?

Just curious what you have found to really help bring in more gold in Classic.

I’m sure that the dailies in Wrath will help, but right now my best way to bring in gold each day is:

  • Do the Quel’Danas dailies
  • Vendor/AH drops collected while doing above dailies

Don’t get me wrong, that’s about 200 gold a day, so I’ll be able to buy fast flying and Northrend flying within two months. I’m just curious what else other people are doing to bring in more.

I pick flowers.

Pretty, pretty, flowers.

Make a death knight alt and you’ll have lots of quests at max level for gold then have it combined with mining, and you’ll make an insane amount.

But I require the gold so that I can gather the final components to constru… for reasons.

I need it for perfectly nonthreatening reasons.

I also like to fish in STV. The chests have good crafting materials that can be sold and the fish as well of course.

Although, full disclosure; I am no AH guru or big money maker. You may not find the time to gold earned ratio worth it.

So, I haven’t tried this myself but it doesn’t sound too bad.

I had guildmates saying they would create a deathknight, go through the outland quests, send the money to their main, then delete the DK. Rinse and repeat. This works since outland quests give a decent amount of gold. It’s easy, chill, and it works. (Plus if you don’t have DK already, it also gets you an alt.) After one DK alt, probably not worth keeping the others. Don’t forget to send the money to your main before you actually delete the DK

Other than that, most profs can make you decent gold. Mining in outland, and later in Northrend, isn’t bad either.

Basically outland quests if you want a straightforward way to earn some gold. You could do profs and sell the mats, or attempt to sell what you create from those matts. They don’t always sell though. Prices are deflated right now, at least on the fresh servers, and your mats will be worth more down the line. If you haven’t finished all the outland quests on your main, feel free to grind them out while you wait for AV to pop or get a dungeon group.

If you happen to use RestedXP, there is a setting that takes gold into account. Meaning it will direct you through quests with gold in mind and not just leveling. For the DKs, you could turn this setting on when you enter Outland. Just enable it in the addon settings. Type /rxp to get to settings. I’ve never tried this, but might give it a go myself just to see how well it works.

A few profs are in need, like Inscription and you can make a decent amount on that right now. The prices are inflated since it recently became available in pre-patch. Making glyphs can earn you decent coin on the AH, but the AH isn’t for everyone. Other than that, at least on fresh servers, mats are pretty cheap. So they’re not exactly worth gathering, and I had ended up selling them to vendors because it was more profitable to do so. That wasn’t always the case though, especially in higher level zones.

You could always try and create in-demand gear for those not going with Honor gear but are new or on a fresh character and want decent gear. Most people seem to be doing the AV grind for honor, though.

In the end, questing in outland seems the most straightforward. You’re not risking anything either. I haven’t tried this method with making DK after DK, but I do know outland quests have good payouts. So, in theory, it seems like it’d work just fine.

Are you on a fresh server? The economy is different between the fresh and existing servers, so it’s hard to point you towards the AH or mat grind when I don’t know the current state of the economy on your server. But that’s another reason AH isn’t user friendly. If you can make some pre-raid BiS gear, people may buy that. Selling the equipment you don’t use, while it seems obvious, I still see some players carrying a bunch of stuff in bags that they’ll never use.

Now is a good time to clean your bank and inv. Wrath will replace a lot of the sought after mats, gear, and so on. Or, use those mats to level some profs to be ready for wrath, and make your money when wrath launches instead of having it before it launches. Lots of mats to farm in Northrend, and you’ll be there anyway.

I’d still say the DK method seems like your best bet. Especially with RestedXP and/or if you know the quests well enough to get them done quickly.

buy gold and pretend that you’re farming something that’s what many players do. KeK

I’ve been solo farming hellfire citadel, I think you can do it on a Paladin as well. I’m making like 100-150 gold an hour just vendoring everything.

I’ve found that making plate for DKs is particularly rewarding…

I also run BF and strat on my pally. While I only make around 300g an hour do strat. I imagine it would be more if I did not have to ride to sell stuff.

Dailies. Dungeon grinding to 70 and doing quests at cap, JC/Mining - All what i used in TBC

Herbing, mining, fishing, love all 3 and just being out in the world.

Getting fast flying isn’t worth losing my 15+ year old account. Hard pass.

I’m leveling up Skinning+LW right now (this was a boosted character), so any excess leather is going on the AH.

My DK is herablist+scribe and Pally is a miner+BS, but there’s too much competition for mats right now with all the new characters. Hopefully in Wrath it will calm down and I can do more mat farming.

I was able to farm my fast flying on two characters in about 10 days by doing QD dailies on three characters, selling greens, and figuring out what the “hot” items to farm on the AH were. Mining is very lucrative right now and will continue to be through Wrath. Besides that, quests at 70 are a great way to make fast gold.

pretty much this , do both island and outland dailies , feed all the mats to your profession alt, sell products in auction house eg scrolls/bags etc. you can repeat these dailies with multiple alts every day. other than that , guild raid runs give you probably 100g. badges runs with heroic dungeons for gems. don’t spend gold that you shouldn’t , rinse and repeat

Most classes have a gold farming section in their class discord. I would suggest checking that out to see what works best for whatever you’re playing. I have run undead side strat 119 times since prepatch. Just kill all the trash and baron. Vendor after 2 runs at lights hope. Gets you 300-400 gold an hour depending on gear and class, and a mount. Just find stuff you want to watch on the side and it’s pretty cathartic. Once you hit 80 there will be dungeon/raid farms with better gold per hour.

Level a class that can solo dungeons and collect your money. That being DK or paladin

If you hate that though there is always dailies and selling cooking stuff on the AH for flips and such. Really good method if you have a lot of high level Alts.

gold buyer never gives you permanent ban, i’m surprised that you’ve been playing from 15years and don’t know the rules :stuck_out_tongue: even at 2011~2014 gold buyer never gets permanent ban, was 1year and gold wipe, then blizzard introduced tokens but anyway currently in classic gold buying is just 30days ban and gold wipe.

but atm in classic it’s less than 2%chance that you’ll get any ban for buying gold, i know more than few friends who bought tens of thousands of gold and not even a 1day ban.

You can buy wow tokens on retail and convert it to classic. 20$ for 1 wow token, will get u around 1100 classic gold. also blizzard has said that trading in this way is allowed

Regarding gold buying giving 30 day ban and gold removal, does that seem ok to you? Most people panic if the server is down for 15 minutes, imagine a month and money wasted as gold is removed.
