Wondering at what point you say “ok, you’re doing something wrong.”
3 games of shuffle tonight*. In the first I went 4/6, and was almost 5/6 but it was a hairs difference. The next two I got crushed 0-6 both. Both against Pevokers. I’m resto Shaman with a 412 PVP ilvl. From what I can tell I have a two major problems from the jump:
I spend a ton of time in CC
I’m getting nature locked a lot and it kinda screws me.
I feel like the majority of my time I’m just not able to heal for these two reasons. I’m trying to keep my positioning intelligent, but I’m chasing a lot of people around pillars. I’m holding my trinket as long as possible, and I’m taking the opener in Ghost Wolf, which I have all the talents for (I know everyone hates that - if that’s the reason I’m going 0-6 I’ll change it).
Resto recently got buffed, and I checked the leaderboard and Resto shaman are doing well, so it’s clearly a me-problem. Without seeing the matches, any advice?
*I guess I should add these were the first three of the season. Might be shaking some rust off on top of everything else.
When enemy team has every instant cc available at the start of the match try to line them and drop healing tide behind pillar and then drop earthern so even if u eat cc your team will probably be fine but if its magic cc like spriest stun you should look to ground it.
You should almost never be getting ccd by hard casted cc like polymorph or fear because you have shear and grounding and tremor and you can hide behind pillar inbetween.
You feel like you have to cast so much because Your build has literally 0 instant healing and you are literally missing all your major cooldowns
You dont have totemic recall for earthern reset
You dont have NS.
You dont have primordial wave which pairs with your ns for huge insta cast double healing wave
You dont have ancestral guidance(MASSIVE healing cooldown almost like having another charge of ascendance thats 40 yard range)
You dont have unleash shield selected (puts your target in a root that doesnt break on damage and a whirlpool that reduces their damage and healing done if you had water sheild and earth sheild on yourself when you used it(not taken) by 50%. This is probably the most powerful ability in the shaman class and if you consistently use it well you can carry games with it.
If he gets my win rate up I’ll buy him a Store Mount.
Mind you, he told me to take all the abilities I hate so I’m sure there will be a learning curve. That “throw your shield” ability is the design direction for shaman that I cannot stand.
Yes, that’s a major part of it. But for example if I want to Mortal Strike a player as a Shaman I have to:
Talent Water Shield
Talent Unleash Shield
Put a fixed puddle on the ground
Get the enemy to stand in it which:
Most people are going to say “root them first”
Which is another talent
How many other classes Mortal Strike with a button? You can find videos as far back as Cataclysm that show Shaman getting nerfed for fun. Meanwhile they give Druids daily calls to see if they need a backrub.
Pick 2 super easy to reach keybinds that are very close to each other for example I use Q and E, some people scroll up and scroll down and some people use ‘ and 1
It isn’t a mortal strike it reduces the damage and healing DONE by people standing in whirlpool so if you unleash shield an spriest popping vampiric embrace he is going to do half damage and healing but he will still take the same amount of hps from his healer unless the healer is stacked in the pool with him
When you are talented into elemental orbit and have water shield and earth shield on yourself at the same time unleash shield roots them and whirlpools them in a single button press which is why it is so OP
I actually struggle against shaman tbh, they thrive in damp, can ground/thunderstorm stop my rake/clone set ups, and can ground the interrupt from my dps to get a clean hex on them. Not to mention 100k stormbringer crits.
