Those were 1 time purchase though correct? They want to repeat transactions, that is where there is large sums of money for literally no work at all.
Sort of. It’s a bit more sinister than that - they wanted to pull in the old time gamer (with deep pockets) and get them hooked into the new ways of gaming. The point of Classic was to pull in the gamers that dropped off over time and then get them playing Retail - or at least paying as much to play whatever as retailers do.
I fully believe they didn’t expect Classic to last as long as it did and aimed to simply pull some of the previously lost subs back into retail.
However, the success of classic has given them an even better option - more revenue with less developmental expense.
because theyre cheaper cost than retail
Welcome to .
Good point; however I think they miscalculated that most people playing wrath will not play retail in my opinion, I obviously don’t know that for a fact I am just basing that off of people I talk to that are playing wrath.
The token is a good addition in my opinion. Not everybody wants to grind for gold for hours and days. This gives more options for people to enjoy the game.
I woke up today with pings in discord about the wow token on the AH. I assumed it was a reddit post prank.
Then I saw it in-game. No lie, no cap, no whatever the kids say these days… I was saddened. I went from excited to log in to wondering if I even should.
Inflation is never a good thing. The gold farmers will now play their game for free…
You clearly don’t understand how an economy works.
blizzard is just trolling atm
Yeah - I don’t know if that’s still the plan (thus the token change - capitalise on Classic and not rely on players bleeding into retail). The popularity of Classic really caught them by surprise. I honestly think they thought players would play Classic, realise how inconvenient everything was and then want to explore Retail.
Instead the game boomed and the Blizzard hierarchy couldn’t understand it. They still don’t.
Hit the nail on the head in terms of speaking about me.
Not just them.
As an old timer gamer myself, I can’t understand why you are so against it. I can only surmise that it is having a negative effect on what you want out of WoW, but it is having a clear, positive effect for me.
Or maybe we do, and just don’t care, as it affects you negatively but some of us, positively.
I know I will now be saving $16 a month. There’s a few cups of coffee or a pint right there.
I think the reaction is that many players are confronting the reality of just how cynical Blizzard is for the first time. I got to that point myself some time ago - so this really isn’t shocking me.
15 dollars? or 180 dollars? Depending on how much you can stomach farming.
If they really wanted to be greedy, they wouldn’t have given me the option to buy game time at all with gold.
what’s shocking is that this is actually a nice reprieve.
Yeah they would - because they are banking on human nature. They know most people are lazy and just want to keep up with the Joneses. So most players will be buying tokens with cash. Ironically, this will also drive down the in game gold cost of game time … win win …
But lets not pretend they are doing this “for the players”. Blizzard plan to make a lot of money out of this.
To each there own, part of the game for me was AH manipulation, this adds a new level of difficulty I prefer not to deal with in a game.
Fair enough.
^THIS. Gold buying was always happening but now people who did not want to deal with shaddy gold farmers. Will now buy this.
Wrong because now they will be getting $20 for your sub, instead of $15, someone still has to buy the token, even if you don’t.
I’m not following here, but maybe because I’m new to the token.
How am I paying 20 real dollars if I’m using gold to buy game time?
