Get. Rid. Of. Xuen. (As a major CD)

And make sure we spay and neuter him first so we don’t get any of his offspring to summon in the future. No one wanted him as a major CD, and he’s not very great as a major CD. Instead, replace him with an ability like “Avatar of Xuen” that can act like a WW version of Shaman Ascendence.

Instead of a pet that breaks CC and might jump to Africa, we get far more control and room for better design/builds.

Avatar of Xuen can enhance our rotation/combat abilities while accomplishing all that current Xuen does, but better. While Avatar of Xuen is active, all our damage could be magic damage to mimic Xuen’s Lightning and our GCD could be set to .5 seconds (I’d make it .25 or .1 as a homage to fighting game buttons mashing, but that might encourage people to macro rotations together) because Tigers are fast and it could be off the GCD because we don’t need more CDs on GCD.

Tiger Palm can become Tiger Dash and just gain a 40 yard range teleport to mimic Xuen jumping everywhere.

BoK could get grant damage bonuses to RSK and FoF in addition to the CDR which is reminiscent of the old Legion Artifact Trait of Transfer the Power which did the same thing, but only for FoF.

RSK could take up the role of ToD being baked into Xuen by doing 10% of all damage done in the last 8 (yes I increased it) seconds in addition to RSK damage. That way, we can double dip from previous RSK hits and have potential for some different builds/statting.

SCK could just lose its channel and be an AoE pulse that goes for 10 yards (because that’s what current Xuen does) when we hit it and improve upon it by removing the AoE cap. And apply a new debuff, Mark of the Tiger, which would basically copy Legion WW’s AoE by causing SCK to do 50% more damage per stack rather than the pitiful 10% we’re stuck with today.

FoF could get its channel time cut in half and be 360 degrees instead of just forward facing and go out 10 yards as well. And, because why not since pallies of all things are getting one, let each tick be one purge because lightning.

And just like that we have a strong burst ability that has use in PvE and PvP, has potential to open up different builds, resolves weaknesses in WW burst that have been present for years, and has a lot of flavor to it. If people really like Xuen, he can just be put back on the talent tree.

Edit: Edited the title because some people got the impression that I wanted Xuen gone from WW lore/flavor.

I ain’t saying axe him from WW lore. He fits. Just not as a major CD. I’d rather have Xuen as an auxiliary like we had with Fury of Xuen in BfA. Honestly, FoX could easily replace Hit Combo on the talent tree. They both demand the same thing except one is bland and was punishing enough in the past that it got nerfed twice, while the other rewards you for doing your rotation properly by occasionally shooting a laser cat that gives you blust.

I have to disagree with this. Xuen is the only reason WW monks are competitive. Well that and the legendary mixed with weapons of order. But WW monk’s strength in single target and aoe damage is Xuen with its lightning damage. If you take out Xuen WW monks will likely become abolished again.

The legendary can still apply to Avatar. Also if a CD is why we’re relevant in AoE, that’s a problem. This is a multi-layer issue with a simple resolution.

I understand that Xuen is extra damage on top of our rotation during burst. However, that does not mean it can’t be reconciled. An output buff could be put on Avatar, which is a bit bland, or we could just do more damage with our rotation which is also bland, but ultimately more efficient overall because a buff to our sustain is a buff to our burst which conveniently also addresses potential ST issues.

Love xuen but your idea is a lot cooler!

Can we use the Saberon model? That would be dope

Xuen is the only thing that is going to keep ww from being Garbo by end of xpac

Then that is bad design, but worry not.

If a 2min CD that summons a derpy AI which gives us BL if we have a leggo on that is more or less a fire and forget is carrying us through the xpac, then that’s a lot of design space to work with to achieve not Garbo. The sky is the limit, and there’s a lot more interesting and involved things that can be done.

And considering that normal irl people can punch several times in a second, we can go much faster. An unadjustable 1 sec GCD is honestly insulting for the class/spec that turns people to paste with their fists.

/pet attack , is your friend.

i agree with the OP, but since blizz finally after 8 years listened to feedback and finally gave him secondary scaling, hes at least not going to scale into uselessness again.

although, id vastly prefer for our dps cd being a massive damage amp and augmentation to our abilities instead of the garbage that is SEF+Xuen, but that would require more than literally Hunlinku and 1 other person at blizz to be working on classes. they have literally said that only 2 people work on all classes and specs. and with Hulinko working on classes now, it means we are essentially doomed. Holinka is extremely bad at his job, so its really frightening that hes now in charge of classes ( this is the dude that designed trashran in WOD ). and its further exasperated by the fact we are yet to even seen 1 monk legendary after… what… 8+ weeks of PTR and nothing has come up for monks yet.

im not holding my breathe. OCE servers were announced on the weekend for FF:ARR so it might finally be worth jumping ship fulltime. my mythic raiding guild that ive been playing with for years basically jumped over to FF:ARR to play and still deal with 200+ ping instead of WOW and there terrible design. all of the class writers for all of the classes have all essentially said none of the new covenant legendaries are even worth crafting. nobody at blizz seems to know what they are doing.

it used to be a point of pride to work at blizz. now the interns are just ruining the game, because all of the talent has jumped ship to dreamhaven. nobody at blizz cares about monks, let alone the game at large. even the few remaining big names left at blizz dont want to address how poorly they are making the game for the playerbase now. this game looks like its going into maintenance mode now, with back to back bad xpacks. i love this game, but man do blizz make it hard to want to play this mess anymore.

I was getting ready to disagree with you hard just on the title, but your idea for Avatar of Xuen is actually incredibly good. It’s something that I’ve wanted for Monk for a long time.

All that ‘talent’ was also responsible for WoD and BFA…good riddance. They just need to finish cleaning house with Ion.

You get what you pay for.
Blizzard offering two bottle caps and a bazooka joe for salary isn’t going to attract good developers or keep the smart ones.

This is something that Blizzard talks about a lot internally, and they’ve decided that you actually really like Xuen.

I saw that earlier today and it made me sad for several reasons.

We’re still probably using Invoker’s.
They could have just made Xuen’s Treasure good. (Allow us the room to always guarantee the crit)
This just means WW is gonna be more inclined to Kyrian.
It’s another fire and forget.
It’s also very uninspired.

There is some upside though. If we ever get to use 2 leggos we might get super blust or double blust if we use it with Invoker’s. Not that blust does miracles for us or anything.

Yeah, it’s crazy how many of the covenant legendary powers just make the best better… And usually in uninteresting ways. I’m hoping they just surprise us with the ability to use a covenant lego and a regular lego next patch. It’s hard to get excited about a late introduction of legendary powers for abilities that have been around for months now, and whose power level just kind of sit near the existing legendaries at best.

Your ideas are cool but it would also just make us even more reliant on cooldowns and feel extra bad without them because it would be so powerful.

I don’t like a multitude of pets either, but I’d much rather change SEF first instead before I touch Xuen, and with it, maybe remove Mark of the Crane too (because well, no more SEF for marking multiple targets). SEF has been the focus for the majority of complaints when it comes to WW ever since I can remember, so change is way long overdue.

I think we’d actually lose some damage just because we won’t have an actual Xuen to do damage things and run around if it went through. Avatar would only enhance our rotation. It doesn’t inherently have any damage modifiers in there. The value Avatar would generate would be off of the extra globals we get, but it’d need Seren or WoO to feed it. Else we’d just burn out.

All the naysayers here… kek plz.

You don’t realize Xuen was overtuned because they ripped Gale Burst from ToD, and because everyone back then said “Yo, we’re not a summoner spec” they overcompensated to see who still cared.

Me? I care. I just can’t play the spec now. It’s not a summoner. Stop it.

Edit: Sidenote, every Shaman has to talent into Ascendance. Every Monk gets their goofy dumb little spirit celestial free of charge and are obligated to use it. I’d rather be a Shaman at this point, at least until Monk is a master of hand to hand combat again.

Yes, i thought xuen was fine as a talent. I really hate it baseline. I dont even think we need any version of it either. Just buff SEF and make that our cooldown.

I’m sorry, but Xuen is far and above a better class fantasy skill than a carbon copy of Warrior Avatar. If you don’t want to use it, don’t use it? Considering you’re talking about BREAKABLE CC, you’re most likely talking about solo play, or incapacitate, in which case you need to use it as an OPENER to lock down a healer to start applying pressure to set up your rotation, NOT as a showstopper cc to APPLY your burst.

/end.

If anything the class fantasy baseline should be ascension. But i like SEF, too bad its so buggy. For me summon a lightning tiger does not fulfill monk class fantasy, but thats why i was fine with it being a talent.
