I don’t know where anyone is getting the idea this is coming to console so this thread is extremely out of left field.
With that said it would be the smartest move ever. I know people that have played on pc with a controller for years and it’s just fine. If final fantasy can do it so can wow. Ff is slower but has far more buttons to press. Once they figure out the add on situation it’s a go.
The console population is gigantic. Even if they game sold a million copies that’s insane for an already huge population. They need to gift console owners with a ton of incentives and cross play
A big issue would be wow abilities that use a ground target reticle. It would be really clunky with a controller. They would have to redesign alot of thing to accommodate how slow a controller is compared to a mouse. As it is now, fights and pvp require faster reaction and precision than thumb stick speed can support. Controller support through add-ons now is pretty niche and is limited on what you can do compared to KBM
Ff14 also counts free trials as part of its numbers. A more accurate number for dedicated players would be ff14census. It tracks how many accounts have the achievement for completing the main story line and as of this month it sits at 647k
Maybe, maybe not. Though one would also point out that WoW also has a free trial… I think. Used to at least. Most people have probably forgotten about it at this point.
It definitely provides more detailed data, but said data is also specific to FFXIV. Of course, the measurement of 647k completing the MSQ up to the end 5.0 would also not count FFXIV’s pretty substantial “new player” population. So I think the baseline of approximately a million and current of 1.6 million seems about right.
Though I can concede that “dedicated” was maybe not the best phrase to use… I was thinking more about “consistent” players, or at least the sum of active players which the game retains over the long term.
MMO-Population provides comparative data between games in one location, and presumably uses a similar system for measuring them up; it may not be perfectly accurate, but the relative scale shouldn’t be that far off. And more of a gut feeling, those numbers just look “right”.
