“Diablolist” is just such an… awkward… name. Would have been more tolerable without the second “l” but only slightly. There had to be some better choices than that!
Edit: I’ve been corrected! I read it incorrectly, and until now, was unacquainted with the word “diabolist” (probably a good thing?). I have been educated, but I still think it’s an awkward word… even when spelled correctly. Just sayin’.
Hi, I’m a Paladin who has played since the beta of Vanilla.
During the DF Alpha, I did a long post on the forums warning the devs that the spec was a disaster, it clearly got its dev time cut short, and if not fixed I’d unsub. It was not fixed so I unsubbed. A couple months later, the rework came. So, I was right. Thank you for admitting it with your actions. That’s why I resubbed.
But now I am here again, warning the devs.
These paladin hero talents are bland, uninspired, passive stat and proc trees. This is the exact same problem the DF talent trees had in the alpha. I warned you then. I told you, stop “avoiding complexity” for one of the simplest specs in the game. Please, provide options for us higher skill veteran players to differentiate ourselves from the FOTM swappers who just picked up the spec yesterday.
Please redo both Herald of the Sun and Templar. The goal should be allowing players variety in gameplay and expression of skill… not to try and tack on as much passive power as you can. That means lower skill players will catch up to my performance without actually improving. That’s bad. It’s like the dev team doesn’t understand how this destroys motivation for your tenured players.
The fact that both ret specs came out as entirely designed around passive procs… really says something about your paladin dev, Blizzard. This is so uncreative and uninspired… Just like the 10.0 ret talent tree. Exactly the same problems.
Good luck, it looks like you’ll need it… Please, stop listening to the “Game 2” whiners. We need “game 1” so badly right now. Dragonflight was too safe and watered down out of Shadowlands fears… But SOD shows us that if you just make a good MMORPG, that’s all that matters.
Please increase Mountain of Muscle and Scars’ size increase to 10% to make it actually noticeable.
And make it a choice node with another talent with the exact same power effects, but it makes you 10% shorter instead. Call it “Tiny Titan” or something.
The two pally trees are much better than the Lightsmith tree. However, all of it feels kinda of underwhelming. Nothing in either of the new trees will greatly affect decision making, gameplay, and rotation.
I think the main problem with Hero talents is that they are trying to blend two different specs that don’t really need to be blended. Each spec serves a different purpose than the other two. Blending it means you take away from the core purpose of what you are playing. I would rather have expanded spec trees or ability to place Hero points into other two spec trees without the need for a new tree. There is really no meaningful choices with the Hero trees.
It does feel pointless like a lot of rental systems and I do not see how they can turn hero talents into an evergreen system so they are stuck. If it is one and done for the expansion then it is pointless to try to learn the new sub classes. But if it is evergreen system then what does that mean for core class identity and the current DF talent trees?
FYI Blizz have clarified that they’re focusing on certain classes first, the reason why druid is often shown first (even in DF talent trees reveal) is because they have 4 specs and are thus more difficult to design.
And yet these are concepts only. There’s no actual testing of this and won’t be any until alpha/beta. They should be showing concepts much earlier so players have an idea where the devs’ are going. At this rate some classes won’t be seeing concept previews they’ll only see them when they’re being tested in alpha/beta — at which point changes like the Oracle rework will be far more unlikely.
I’m just here for the specs I actually care about. None of which have been shown yet. Still waiting for Arcane, Survival, Assassination, Elemental, Affliction, Enhancement
Elune’s Chosen : Great
Wildstalker : Ok
Scalecommander : Great
Herald of the Sun : Ok
Templar : Great
Trickster : Absolutely not good
Diabolist : Great FOR DEMO, complete trash for Destro
Colossus : Ok
Colossus seems cool from the outside in. Warrior is one of my least played classes so I feel this isn’t my place to speak on.
Herald of the Sun is cool seeming. Sunspots need to have an ACTUAL VISIBLE animation of some format. Not just a number popping up.
Wildstalker is … actually interesting? Again another one where I need to SEE whats happening, not just a number appearing. I need myself/my team to know where things are. If you can’t animate what you design, redesign it so you can.
Chosen of Elune This has my main class/spec. I’m not terribly mad at it, my main gripe is outside of this, which is that balance has FAR too many similar animations of a vertical light from the sky. Moonfire. Sunfire. Stellar Flare. Fury of Elune. Lunar Strike. Hell Sunbeam too frankly. Its too much. Find news to do this, cause it makes class visually quite boring.
Scalecommander is amazing. It DOES need some focusing in on, but roaming around while breathing is so amazing. And the idea of being a magical bombardier is incredible.
Diablist is just Demonologist 2.0. Little to none of these talents seem amped toward Chaos’ theme whatsoever. Its just more demons. Which is Demonologist. Not for one moment when I think of my Destruction Warlock (this has been my main alt for several expansions, except for DF) not once does my summoning an infernal come forefront in my mind at all. Chaos Bolt does. Incinerate does. GREEN FIRE does. Shadow stuff, demon stuff? thats Affliction and demonology. Give Destruction its moment please.
Trickster I’m LOVING this idea. IMO the combo point system is dead and the class as a whole needs a revamp (along with kitty ofc). There is a reason that this class is the least played one and has been for MANY years now. This is in contrast, btw, to other games with rogue classes, where its typically among the Highest played.
