General Headcanon Thread

ITT: Share anything you personally think should be canon to Warcraft, whether it be small, minor cultural additions to add flavor, or incredibly large justifications for XYZ.

All Classes for All Races.

That’s really it…

Well, the one that would upend the story would be the Horde Leaders recognizing that Sylvanas, and really all Forsaken, were suffering from depression and unresolved or even considered Trauma.

What that would end up looking like no idea, but I’d like to have seen attempts to help to make sure that they knew they could get help when they were ready for it and hopefully the whole jumping event wouldn’t have happened.

Strangely enough I don’t care about the Jailor or any of the shadowlands bs… but that tree burning might not have happened, or at least not have been initiated by Sylvanas had something as simple as someone trying to help had actually happened.

One runeblade per Death Knight.
Soul bound into sword.
Kill the Death Knight and fail to destroy the sword, someone who picks it up can be possessed by them.

Short Response: The full moon affects worgen and makes them get the urge to transform into their worgen form, it does not force them into said form.

Long Response: It’s a niche bit of lore from the comics, but it is mentioned that during the full moon Goldrinn is at his most wild, most bloodthirsty, most savage. His rage is insatiable.

Worgen were made with the Fang of Goldrinn in the Scythe of Elune and thus worgen have the essence of Goldrinn’s rage within them. It’s why when they get mad they transform into their worgen form.

Therefore! I headcanon that the full moon that affects Goldrinn’s rage would also affect worgen because they have his essence of rage in them. While the full moon may not cause worgen to change against their will, I like to think the full moon heavily gives them the urge to change and want to hunt and kill.

Demons are at their strongest within the Twisting Nether, which is why they take the risk of permanently dying.

Night elves don’t grow their food on farms or in any localized fashion - they have carefully mapped out and cultivated their whole territory into permaculture food forests of native plants. The elves’ (non-meat) food source shifts year-round, depending on which plants are in harvestable season at the time - berries one month, fruit the next, wild grains after that, then on to nuts and leafy greens over winter, etc.

This is one reason that night elves will plant groves of trees wherever they settle in a new area, and one reason they are protective of every last corner of their forests even when it looks empty and unsettled. Sure, it may look like a cluster of scraggly wild pines, but that’s one family’s worth of pine nuts to keep them over winter, the brambles around the trunk will feed them in spring, the stomped grasses in the meadow between them will provide grains over the summer, and the wild game who feed there will provide meat in any lean time where there is not enough vegetation to feed them all.

However, the night elves can only manage this because they had thousands of years in which to perfect this careful balance, with the guidance and occasional magical aid from the druids. They can’t ramp up food production in a non-destructive way, and they are so habituated to this balance that they resent any outside influence that tries to make them disturb it.

I don’t see this as headcanon but actual canon due to things like the tank mage tower challenge (Highlord Kruul) and Mythic Archimonde (Hellfire Citadel).

Mainly the latter as that is the mythic only phase for Archimonde and it falls into the “boss gets a buff” grouping of those. Others include Argus, Zovaal, Garrosh, Sha of Fear and Ragnaros (Firelands).

If it applies to Elementals (Firelands Ragnaros in general) with the Elemental plane and Sha with the Sha Realm (Sha of Fear), it should apply to demons and the twisting nether. Could also add Xavius (nightmare lord form) into this. As the Shade of Xavius is only a fragment of his true power that he has within the Nightmare.

To be honest I felt that it was implied but never outright stated, so I wasn’t sure on calling a canon moment over a headcanon one.

I do hate the notion of “unless stated by word of God or otherwise, things that are obviously subtext are not canon”.

I get that, it’s more of a comfort level with me in that regard, especially since Blizzard can get contradictory at times.

I thought of more theories:

  • Illidan’s madness in BC was born because apart of soul was stolen into Frostmourne. Frostmourne’s destruction allowed this peace to reconnect with him, which is why he’s more stable in Legion.
  • Every demon that was in the process of being reborn in Antorus when we took out Argus, died as a consequence of the rebirth being interrupted.
  • Word of the Penitents rejoining Draenei society has caused mixed reaction on Azeroth. While some are glad that there are Man’ari seeking redemption, others are outraged at the notion.

Some of the temporary colonies that the Draenei established on other worlds during their flight from Argus weren’t completely abandoned when the Legion found them and there are iterations of the Draenei still on these worlds to this day.

Additionally, many Man’ari were relieved when Sargeras was imprisoned and chose to rebuild societies on distant worlds free of his influence without trying to re-integrate into Draenei society.

Psh, weak version of my soul stones. my goblin is immortal.

Aye same

Like the world soul, and Azerite by proxy, is obviously a mixture of light and arcane magic.

But you get people, who can’t read the context of it all, claiming it isn’t because they didn’t outright say it is.

Doesn’t matter it has both the colors of light and arcane, can heal, can empower, can energize and do wild and weird stuff like arcane.

I think there’s a lot of interesting storytelling to be done in the realm of Demons who were never really on board with the “galactic murder-crusade” agenda. I think the former Legion territories have broken up into a vast array of diadochi-states with a wide variety of different motives - some want to restart the Legion, some want to build their own civilizations, some pursue ends that we can’t even really understand.

I think there’s probably something similar going on in Northrend right now, for that matter. The Scourge has fragmented into a bunch of little fiefdoms - there are little Necromancer cults made up of Cult of the Damned remnants and their minions, fragments of the ancient Spider kingdoms ruled by Tomb Kings, San’layn Covens doing vampire stuff, Vrykul tribes reckoning with the death of their god, etc.

Some blood elf warlocks still have the burning crystals cuz they are far too vital as energy source to be dismissed so easily.
