Sadly this is correct, Blizzard is taking the “easiest” path with little to no real investment on their side to act like they are trying to fight RMT. However, this only works if they actually attack botting + RMT itself aswell as banning GDKPs as each provides a direct supply/demand relationship for large volumes of gold.
Considering we know they probably arnt going to do that then RMT and botting likely wont ever be non-financially profitable at the end of the day.
The GDKP ban is great, but while lessening the need for players to buy gold, obviously it doesn’t eliminate it.
Blizz could actually address the issue quite easily.
Permanently ban gold buyers. Strike 1 and you’re out.
Hire GMs to police the game.
And they’re not going to do either. Blizz isn’t in the business of driving players away. And they want bots. The token ban waves every few months are just for appearances. They accomplish nothing. Watching the same gold seller spamming trade chat all day tells you all you need to know. A single GM should be banning them the second they make one gold selling advertisement. Instead they go for days, weeks, months.
I can do this all through the AH or trade as well, no?
Are you telling me only those who do well in GDKP sell gold? Do bots not sell gold, or other players who do well with gold?
I understand that GDKP has the opportunity to incentivize people to RMT but I’ll let you know something else.
Playing the game incentivizes RMT. Singling out one reason is dumb, and it’s why the RMT market has had no noticeable changes since it’s banning of GDKP. Maybe it’s smaller but there’s no evidence to notify us of this reality.
Sure but not everyone can “win” in the AH. That requires skill, understanding of the games economics and time investment. This fictious argument that magically everyone who is a big spender in a GDKP is somehow a god at the AH has never had any proof to back it up. However, there has been countless investigative journalism reports done, player interviews and reports, and public announcements from blizzard directly linking RMT and GDKPs. Just because you don’t like this doesn’t change the fact is trues.
Anyone can swipe a credit card, join a GDKP and buy BIS gear that lasts for the entire multiple month phase. Worse GDKP’s encourage anyone who joins to walk in with the largest gold pot possible at their disposal to guarantee they win items. Does this mean “everyone” in a GDKP is doing RMT?? No, it doesn’t but it does highly incentivize it and has been previously linked directly as a systemic problem.
The reason why people single out GDKP’s is because massive insane quantities of gold have been directly linked to being purchased for the sole purpose of buying gear in these runs. Players are obviously not blind to this fact. There has been enough public statements, independent research, first hand accounts, etc to all verify this.
GDKP was the only reason to bring meme specs. If a ret pal or boomkin had the gold they were welcome to my raid and had a fair shot at the best loot normally reserved for meta classes.
I mean I’m a 80 parsing destro warlock who hits DPS as high as most the fire mages I encounter. Destro is the worst warlock spec in Classic Cataclysm Firelands(its a B tier when Affliction and Demo is S and A tier), yet my guild lets me play the spec cause I’m good at it. Regardless if its Meta or not. It depends what group you decide to try to raid with. My guild knows were not the best players in the world by any means and accept were here just to clear content, get gear and have fun. The only time I’ve seen someone get “forced” to be a Meta spec is if they werent that good at their existing spec so the argument was “Why not do X Meta spec because even if your average and your parse is lower it will likely still be higher or the same”.
Now that doesn’t mean they haven’t “suggested” that i might put out better numbers as an S-tier demo warlock instead. But since I’m parsing well as is, understanding my rotation and don’t struggle with most mechanics they aren’t that forceful about it.
“Meekakity” note most my parses are on normal in Firelands cause we are a casual guild, we tried a few heroics week one and while we did them we barely scraped by on most . Normal we managed to do though. Last phase we ran BoT and BWD but only tried TOT4W 1 time so i dont really count that.
Which one of you anti-tokeners is going to foot the bill for the company and I, and pay for my sub/game time in order to keep your status quo way of playing?
Anyways OP the real reason is because it goes against what an MMORPG is about. Rmt is only a small portion of what theyre trying to acheive with this.
But the gdkp clowns refuse to acknowledge that part for some reason. The game is meant to be played as a time sink. Were rolling on gear that sometimes you dont win. If you dont have the “time” like most gdkp clowns say then MMORPGs arent for you lol, go find a different game.
GDKPers are just as bad as RMT. Both of them are trying to skip huge portions of the game to get gear and gold. Theyre both turds in the same bucket
Are you brain damaged or something? How am I skipping the game if I’m clearing the same raid, and killing the same bosses, that a bunch of guilds and SR pugs are stuck progging on because they suck?
Or do I have to raid with people who keyboard turn and click with no addons and wipe 500 times to deserve loot from raids that have been out for 15+ years?
Actually while I’m thinking about it, I want to know how I specifically was skipping the game when I’d already cleared the raid with my guild and only GDKP’d because my guild decided to take a break leading up to tbc/wrath classic launch. What did I skip?
Yes, the game is designed from the ground up to be a time sink. From mount farming, pet farming, raiding, Mythic+(retail), gold farming, gathering materials, getting world buffs, etc. Everything in WoW is a time sink.
And this right here is a perfect example of why people hate GDKPer’s. Dude literally admits he sells gold from GDKP’s to RMTers blatantly on the forums.
But remember guys GDKPs and RMT arent tied together at all. Everyone just magically wins at the AH in every GDKP and walks in with hundreds of thousands or millions of gold.
