Since the topic of the worst drop mount has been brought recently :
I would like to see ideas on general public, Community Council and Devs regarding how the collectors are being rewarded.
This thread it’s a little bit old when council started and there wasn’t too many members:
RNG Mounts:
- I won’t talk about this topic because as we saw with the Love rocket drop rate, everything involving RNG cause a lot of issues among the community and you can relate their value to a ratio of drop rate / amount of attempts, IMO everything in game should be designed on a healthy % for players with only 1 character and prioritizing the fun engagement.
Too Many Mounts, Few Goals:
Regarding the amount of mounts in the last expansions, you can check via simple armory (https ://simplearmory.com/#/) page and see the graphical distribution, we’ve the following numbers

WoD: 48 Mounts

Legion: 73 Mounts (counting all colors for each class, so it could be less for a single character)

BFA: 98 Mounts

Shadowlands: 159 Mounts
There’s a clear issue on which Shadowlands already has 62% more mounts compared to BFA, there’s too many recolors, Devs could add “Dye” as an option just like the Mechagon Cat.
And this is an issue for some collectors because they keep adding mounts but the last achievement for 400 mounts was added on July 2018 during BFA pre patch, also for some players diminish the value of the model due to several mounts, that could be solved with dye option.

Collectors want a reward to persuit and to show off to other players, this could be a determinisitc white whale that inspire other players to start collecting.

I know some players will complain because if this is an unique model they won’t have it or the goal will be so far away, that’s why Devs need to create several goals, 450, 500, 550, 650, the mount from each of those goals hopefully could be an unique model, last mounts were a frozen infernal and a fel flametalon just recolors.

In order to do this better, they can create a formula if there’s 850 mounts still in game (without counting removed, TCG, promo or store mounts), then they can do a maximum achievement for 750 or 800, with a space for some really bad RNG, Gold Sink mounts, mounts with bad respawn (TLPD, Voidtalon…etc) that some players could avoid and still progress for their goal.

If they do a reward every 50 mounts that’ll provide a clear goal, compared to the outdated prestige honor system that has some rewards every 125 - 250 honor levels, if you want a system that works similar to a battle pass with constant rewards every number of levels, please create small gaps between those rewards.
IMO, there’s mounts with unique models like the Wildsee Cradle, The Crab fron Nazjatar, Arboreal Gulper (frog from ardeandweld shares skelleton model but so far there’s not recolors), Book from Mage Tower.
Devs could create new unique model / terxtures using existing skelletons or at least add new mount special for the new mounts related to new achievements.
We’ve 4 years without a mount achievement , for some collectors when that achievement for 400 was added on BFA pre patch, it didn’t represent a goal because we already have that amount of mounts, they could create several mount achievements for 10.0 and one that we won’t be able to reach until we get some mounts from the next expansion.
I really hope this new reward devs also take on consideration this point for mount collectors, i won’t bring pets because i don’t collect pets, however i notice that at least for pets some rewards are unique models like Happiness.
TLDR: New mounts achievements, last one was added 4 years ago, maybe unique models and create goals for the community.
