Facebook, Twitter, all those things…it’s just poison to me. I try to stay away as much as I can; too much self-congratulating as there is self-flagelating for my tastes.

Yeah, we’re all slowly morphing into that crazy uncle who spouts off inappropriate views at the family gathering and everyone tries to ignore him until someone takes the bait and the day just dissolves into acrimony.
I’m so hoping a lot of this tribal mindset fades away as we boomers die off. We’ve always been like this, from our student activism days in the 60’s to the present. We were raised to be intellectually independent and our Great Depression and WWII traumatized parents tried so hard to shelter us from bad things and to make real all the progress and prosperity they worked so hard to provide. Sadly, they produced one of the most entitled, self righteous and uncompromising generations since the Civil War. Whether is was pro- or anti-Vietnam, free love and drugs versus Jesus freaks, Midwest factory worker traditionalists clashing with coastal college educated progressives we boomers have always aligned as no compromise tribes. Sadly though the youngest of us are in their late 50’s, our generation seems impervious to maturing into a realization that everyone is wrong if no one is right.
As a boomer I sincerely apologize for all of this. My hope is that the Millennials and Z’s aren’t hopelessly infected with boomer tribalism but these forums aren’t a source of optimism. Then again, there is this thread and I am hopeful that some really do see a world larger than themselves that is wondrous and often joyful.
Many of you are folks I’d be proud to call my children or even grandchildren. You are amazing. Please keep being you.

compromise is such a big thing that is missing.
There was once a day where if something wasn’t going - one senator from one side would grab one senator from the other side and hit a bar to work out a fix over a few drinks. Neither would get everything - but half a juice box is better than no juice boxes
Now now, it’s not all on your generation

Stupidity has been a pandemic for eons sadly. I’ve been working retail for so so long, I learned to ignore people’s ridiculous behavior, also lack the ability to react or care about what people do.
Some people deliberately put up dumpster fire threads, because they are trolls they feast on chaos and destruction.

Just popping in to say ‘Hi’, because the carrot cake looked delicious.
I’m still in a very rough place, and the infantile nature of the forums (present company excluded) isn’t something I need to willingly subject myself to at the moment.
The spark of joy still eludes me, and few things bring me comfort or happiness at the moment. Still, the Lounge is a good place from which I can escape the despair at times, and so I peruse even if I don’t always respond or share a heart.
