The videos are really cute but and hopefully they are exceptions to what I say below. Elmer is generally careful in looking into things like this. Well, other than what is or is not a bear. LOL.
I don’t how if the guy who features them in the videos manages it but otters have some of the foulest smelling poop of any animal. They also like to mark their territory with the same foul scent glands. Which brings up the issue of them being semi-aquatic and keeping that water clean.
They have sharp claws and teeth, though I’m not seeing those claws on the videos. Have they been declawed? Scent glands removed?
There are no otter breeding programs which means most otters were captured by poachers in the wild as pups. I doubt the parents survived the encounter. Since each pup can sell for about $10,000 a lot of bad people are in the business.
Finally, they are very intelligent as the videos show which also means armed with strong claws and teeth, they are accomplished escape artists.
I’d recommend staying with a dog or cat as we have thousands of years of experience living with each other and any veterinarian can work with them. Finding an otter vet would be a nightmare, especially in the U.S. or Europe where otter ownership is illegal.
I am too careful about what is or isn’t a bear! I ask them if they’re a bear. If they say ‘yes’ or do something a bear does, I let them be.
If they’re naughty and lie and say ‘no’ and try to use their tricky “get-away-from-me-you-psycho-gnome” magic then I make 'em into tasty 
!
(I also know about the otters. The ones you see in most of the videos are small clawed otters. And while I fundamentally disagree with the notion of treating them as ‘vanity pets’, one only has to look at our eons long program of domesticating and even genetic manipulation through various breeding programs of various species of dogs and cats to know that one is no worse than the other…at least in my opinion. And one can even argue that the preservation of otters is far more important than breeding the next dog or cat as otters promote and contribute to exceptional aquatic bio-diversity.)

Hello everyone. I brought some Wonderland cake. Who wants some?
Here’s a conundrum for you, I think I went through a prolonged, like years long existential crisis where I felt like nothing meant anything, and it’s one of the reasons I’ve continued to play for over a decade, especially as I have, which is rather aimlessly never settling on a main let alone doing anything remotely difficult.
All I can say is my values are changing, and this is starting to feel more like time I could better spend on more serious pursuits. I’ve given up on all the other gaming I once did this is the last one.
I won’t say I’ll never play at all or ever again, but I think my days of spending half the day in game might be definitely numbered.
I mean I used to laugh at people who derived accomplishment from the game, like that was the exact opposite reason I was here, because everything I did meant, to my mind, even less than nothing. It was a way of negating my existence maybe. Now as a middle aged man with a much better life than I had in my 30’s, just saying, I’m not sure I still want to be doing this when I’m old.
A lot to think about. Couldn’t think of a better place to bring it than this crazy place. Happy trails, I’ll be around for at least another month regardless, I have characters to catch up before I pack it in, weird as that sounds, if nothing else. And I could always change my mind, but today was quite revelatory so it might be more serious this time. Funny thing is I don’t have real specific complaints about the game, its direction, or even classic for that matter.
I just feel like I might be done kicking around in the void as a pass time.

This geezer pushing 70 says hello. 
Sometimes balance is found in drifting or power sliding between extremes and sometimes the mere realization that we honestly don’t know what’s best for us takes some of the momentum out of the bouncing around and we start finding our balance. That said, even if we question our own competence to decide our lives we still have to do it our way or we endlessly fret about choices made and choices not make.
In this sense the means are more important that the ends as we really have no idea what the end will turn out to be, but if we live life with honorable means, then whatever ends we find out there will be honest and not corrupted by unfortunate compromises made earlier in life.
