Gatekeeping community ruining the game for many players

The gatekeeper community ( parselords aka warcraft log nerds, more specifically players gatekeeping easy content in lfg based around ilvl so they can clear it 30 seconds faster) has not only diminished the experience for veteran returning players with time restrictions, it has also made the game extremely unapproachable for any new players. All of the players blaming blizzard for ruining SoD need to look in the mirror. Or at least get a job and move off from parents dime. Not everyone is a streamer. Not everyone is able to spend 1,000 hours farming archaeology prepatch or zerg to level 85 in the first 24 hours upon release.

I have played WoW since 2006 ( original Burning Crusade.) I remember when gatekeeping was first introduced with ilvl via WotLK. Yes it was a thing, but it was a niche group of players. Now the seemingly same community has grown into the majority somehow, alienating casual players, or even players like me that want to play hardcore, put the time into reading guides, watching bossfights, doing research on optimal dps rotations, but fall behind simply because we cannot put the time into keeping up with the gatekeeper cmnty due to time restrictions (having a full time job/responsibilities) outside of gaming. I refuse to revert to spending my own hard earned money to keep up with said player. The issue is not blizzard in my opinion, it is the new age of gamer. I’m sure I am not the only one with this opinion. But it still sucks nonetheless.

The content that could be gatekept isn’t even out yet and you’re already complaining about it. Impressive

having a full time job/responsibilities

I’m not sure what that has to do with anything other than your own personal restrictions put onto you by yourself… Many folks both sweaty and casual have full time jobs and kids and tons of family commitments also.

If you want sympathy you came to the wrong forum. If you want support because you’re stuck somewhere and can’t break through then welcome!

Personally I’ve had to deal with all these same issues like yourself and yet I am able to find my way to the end game just fine with BiS and pre-BiS or whatever. Just play your own way… No one will even notice.

I hear ya. As the expansions go on I believe my ppl have left.

You cant be hardcore if u dont have the time to be hardcore. U need to recategorize yourself either as semi hardcore or casual and then find a guild that will suit your time.

Also its not a new playerbase that u think thats gatekeeping players. Its the same players back from 2008 that are just older have full time jobs and responsibilities and dont want their gaming time wasted each week of the same mistakes happening from the same players that cause wipes.

Folks were reporting that the game was auto kicking? If that’s the case I’m sure many people were mad about that…

There is no such thing as gatekeeping you out of content.

A group can only keep you out of their group, they have no control if you do any of the content.

I just wish all these sweatlords went back to SoD. It was great having them gone for the tail end of wotlk. Now they’re back… what happened to everyone hating cata? Oh how i wish that were true.

This makes zero sense. How can you be hardcore (and spend all the time on research) and not be able to keep up? Raids aren’t even out yet. You have a very generous 10 days to hit 85 and be pre-raid BiS which doesn’t take long to obtain. 85 would take you 10-12 hours, so in 2-3 days of gametime you would be at max level. Reputation gear is easy to get with a few heroic dungeon runs daily… as well as a high chance of getting the gear you need from heroics. Other pieces can be purchased from a crafter. Get the mats and it’s going to be way cheaper.

Now, if you mean you can’t keep up by the fact that you can’t commit to the same 1-2 days per week and same hours each week, and thus are gatekept, then you are not hardcore. You have very different priorities and it only includes dedication to yourself or your family rather than the raid team you simply want available for you any time you are finally able to play.

That’s your choice, and it’s a good adult attitude when you have other responsibilites. But you need to be a full adult and realize the world doesn’t revolve around you and your time. Everyone else you decry as the gatekeepers set aside the same time & days every week to specifically play with others in a common purpose. Perhaps they’re just better at blocking off specific time than you are.

Actually a profound bit of wisdom there.

I have kids , mortgage, stay at home wife. Welder by profession. Worked for everything I’ve ever had. I play wow to escape the same level of nepotism I experience irl. I make good money but I’ve worked very hard for it. Tired of watching kids that swipe their parents card get a fast pass (such as yourself I assume by your post)

Even a broken clock is right 2 times a day.

I promise you, I work much harder than you, farming in the day and 8 hours of solo cleaning 100k sq feet. And my post was ironic.

If you feel like youre being gatekept from content that isnt even released yet, and making sappy livejounal rants about it…maybe take the stay at home wife with you to touch some grass.

Boy out here speedrunning words
