Game repair/update loop

Hi all!

Game is stuck in a loop at launcher. Update is stuck at about half (sometimes after a Classic/Retail update conflict) for a few moments after which an “Oops! Something went wrong” error is reported and the launcher immediately runs repair scan. After this completes, a BLZBNTAGT00000BB8 error pops. This repeats on further attempts.

On wired connection, all antivirus programs are off, have restarted, and archived then deleted the macros.wtf folder per a piece of advice.

Help would be appreciated! I really don’t want to reinstall this behemoth of a game and spend hours reconfiguring addons.

Hey there Edarave!

Thank you for taking the time to reach out with those details. This looping behavior and that BLZBNTAGT00000BB8 error code can have a few potential causes ranging from corrupted local Battle.net files to a network-related issue. Let’s try the following to narrow this down further:

  1. Uninstall the Blizzard Battle.net App (skip Step 6 for now, we will re-install later).

  2. Next (before re-installing) delete any Battle.net, Blizzard, and/or Blizzard Entertainment folders in the Windows temporary file locations below. If you don’t see all 3 folders in each location, that is okay—just delete the folders you have):

    • Press Windows Key + R and type: %LOCALAPPDATA%. Delete any Battle.net, Blizzard, and/or Blizzard Entertainment folders.
    • Repeat the process for %APPDATA%, %TEMP%, and %PROGRAMDATA%. Delete any Battle.net, Blizzard, and/or Blizzard Entertainment folders.
  3. Finally, re-install the Battle.net Desktop App.

If the problems continue after re-installing the App, try temporarily removing any installed anti-virus programs that might interfere with the Blizzard Update Agent. It’s not uncommon to find that even the most popular anti-virus programs can prevent the Blizzard Update Agent from running due to mistakenly identifying it as a security threat. ESET has a list of the most common anti-virus program uninstallers on their website here.

I hope these steps do the trick! Let us know how it goes!

Hi Skelgarer,

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I’m stuck in the same loop after all of that.

FYI, I had a similar issue (no codes thrown) and the above steps did resolve it.

For those that think they are locked out - I noticed the constant attempt to update/initialize essentially locked down the PLAY button in the Launcher. You can still log in through the WoW.exe or WoWClassic.exe clients where your game files are located. While a client was running, use of the PLAY button became available (though this might only be the case if updates are paused while the game is running).

Thanks! Once again unfortunately, for me running WoW.exe just brings up a dialogue insisting that I update through the launcher. Blizz just really doesn’t want me playing.

Howdy, just bumping on the chance this was lost in the lurch instead of y’all just being busy. I’d really like to get the game working by raid time tomorrow without having to spend an eve reinstalling. Happy Monday!

I am having this issue as well, even after reinstalling the game and following the instructions here. The point I am at now is I get to the log in screen, click on a toon and watch the loading screen until it reaches full, then it disconnects with the “WOW51900319” code. This happens no matter what toon I try to log into, even with all apps closed and running as admin from the WoW folder. I am truly at a loss as how this gets fixed, this started Sunday 7/26/2020.

Yo, I’ve reinstalled and it seems to have cleared up, but really not ideal.
