Game of Thrones Discussion thread

Seldom if ever has a such a prominent TV show so completely lost the plot so quickly. It has gone from one of the best written shows ever, to one of the worst.

It is pretty obvious that the showrunners have no idea what to do now that they are off-book. It’s like they didn’t understand a single one of the themes and now it’s all just plot convenience.

So unbelievably disappointed in this season (well, the last one, too, but not to anything like this extent).

Agreed, i actually enjoyed last season and outside of a few scenes here and there this season has been a complete wash.

I really hate how they seem to be pushing Dany’s “Mad Queen” status.

Ugh, I was so looking forward to this season. Now I’ve just accepted that its going to end horribly and unsatisfying.

Daenerys used to be my favorite character. Now, I hate her as much as any of the great evils: Ramsey, Joffrey, Gregor. Sure, she’s not as evil as they are, not even close…yet, but her obnoxious entitlement has me seeing the potential for a repeat of her father’s lunacy. Even if she is not that nutzy, she still craves the power entirely too much for my taste.

Perhaps if she had not been such a great character to root for, I would not feel so disgusted with her change. She was once a force for change, but now all she does is carry on about “bending the knee…” That phrasing is so pretentious and affected it nauseates me.

Well so many character deaths. and Daenery is following her father foot step. I did heard writing was bad for this season. I mean JFC Wow I am lost for words.

why does this make the writing bad? i think they alluded to this outcome last episode perfectly and i think it makes sense in a lot of ways. we’ll find out next episode obviously but i think her choosing this outcome potentially did a lot to guarantee her the throne.

After tonight’s episode, I do believe it is safe to conclude that she will be as evil as her father.

So, i heard that the girl with white hair who likes dragons burned a big city. Are GoT writers getting inspiration from BFA?

At least we got to see Lena Headey do something besides smirk.

Rofl at all the haters, this episode was fantastic and anyone who didn’t think Dany was going to fill in her daddy’s shoes hasn’t been paying attention.

Lots of writing is bad for this season but Dany burning Kings Landing isn’t one of them. This is a simple case of “My favorite character didn’t turn out the way I wanted so I’m upset” syndrome.

Im conflicted.
One part of me thinks that Cersei watching everything fall down around her, literally, is the perfect end for her character. Watching her go from supreme arrogance to helplessly whimpering was amazing, and having her crushed to death in the bowls of the palace where nobody will ever find her is an amazingly ignoble death for the person who was consistently one of, if the most politically powerful character throughout the entire series.

The other part of me really wanted Cersei to win and later get killed by arya wearing Jamie’s face. The look in her face as “Jamie” shoved a sword into her pregnant belly and then twisted it around, would have been amazing.

Dany always had a ruthless streak to her, but her advisors were always able to hold her back from it. At this point though most of her advisors are gone, and the one that’s still there betrayed her along with the man she loved. For the first time in the entire series no one is there to hold her back, and the result is an absolute disaster as she goes off the rails and embraces her “mad” heritage. This isn’t what i wanted for the character, but it makes perfect sense in the context of the story and the hints have been there ever since season 1.

Daenerys is ruthless yet not mad like the 3 Mad Kings: Aerys II heard voices and tortured his enemies, Maegor tortured his enemies, Joffrey tortured his enemies on whims and Cersei also loved torture.

Daenerys gives a quick death with her Dragon so she isn’t cruel in the same manner her father, brother, Maegor, Cersei and Joffrey were. She has no interest in having slaves(which she sees as barbaric) so she gives the mercy of a quick death by fire!

If she were to survive she will burn everything down and rule over the ashes like Lord Baelish would have. She still has loyal supporters from Essos so they will share the ashes with her should she survive.

This was the best episode in the best season yet. I’m glad everyone else here agrees too.

It’s bad writing because of the path to madness, not the fact she went mad. The writers sprinted to the finish line and a lot of the story along the way didn’t make sense.

Why does Sansa hate Dany? There was never any reason. She brought an army, her brother loves her, she saved the North but none of that mattered. Why? Because Sophie Turner read the script. Same with Massie Willams.

Jon is a failure. He hasn’t earned the right to rule. They set up how Dany earned the right, she was chosen but that has been thrown out the window. Missandei said something along the lines of “she’s not our queen because of her name, she’s the queen we chose.” I loved that. Jon has lost every battle he’s been in. Winterfel? Sansa won that. The Wall? Stanis. He couldn’t even rule the Night’s Watch or the North. So we’re right back to the ruler must have the right reproductive organs and name.

Why couldn’t Jon say the right thing? He had no problem saying he stands with Sansa and Arya because they’re family but he couldn’t say the same about Dany?! All she wanted was love and there’s different kinds of love. The love of your family can be stronger than “my queen” BS. Why couldn’t Jon say “I love you but I love you as my aunt. We’re in this together. We’re family.” That could have tamed the dragon but ya know, Kit Harrington read the script too.

Dany is right about Sansa. Dany was right on the Tarlys. She was right about Varys. Her fall to madness consist of… being upset that one drunk Wildling called Jon a king? That was the first time I seen it. Why does Tormund’s opinion = everyone? Oh that’s right, they read the script.

Dany was so “clever” with Gendry but she couldn’t do the same with Jon?! “Hmm Sansa doesn’t trust me, she doesn’t like me… Jon is a threat to my throne and he no longer loves me… I’m going to fix this right now!” Ahem. “Jon Snow, you are now Jon Stark, Warden of the North. You will stay here and run things and I’m going to take your small army south. As your queen I order you to not reveal your heritage (why did she never issue this order?!). I also order you to swear Sam and Bran to secrecy.” Jon was so hellbent on following orders of “his queen,” he would have done this. However, Emilia Clark never made him give this oath because they both read the script.

^^ This is why I’m upset about Dany. She was an amazing character until season 8 episode 4. Maybe if they didn’t do a nose dive into a mountain with her plot, I wouldn’t have been so upset. They should have been showing more signs of her madness through character development… not with a few cryptic lines from other characters years ago.

pretty much what Tovi wrote. and what I heard next week final episode is going be really bad.

The decision to make the final season only 6 episodes was a bad decision, but idk that the writers had much of a say in that. If I had to guess I would say they are probably doing their best with what the producers or HBO gave them. The cost of episode 3 may have also been a factor.

Again, they should have shown more of her decent into madness over the years. The only hints we got was a few minor characters calling her crazy along time ago. The Dany we have had for 10 years was brilliant, compassionate and strong willed. We did not see crazy Dany until season 8, episode 4.
