Game freezes when alt+tabbing (new 11.1)

When tabbing back to the game from a browser window, the game freezes for 5-10 seconds and then redraws back slowly over 1-2 sec (skybox then floor then items then players) then back to normal. Everything worked perfectly pre-11.1.

Addon profiling shows no misbehaving addons or WAs. Task manager shows growing memory usage during the freeze.

Is the SSD over 85% full?

I’m only using 60% of my SSD and the problem has been plaguing me the past couple weeks. Every single version of WoW too (Retail, Cata, Era).

My guess would be the Windows update is causing this, since lots of people are reporting it as the source of this specific issue.

Good Point 16GB of ram on my system and for some stupid Reason Windows 11 Idles using 60% of my Ram with nothing Else running My old machine on Windows 10 had same amount of RAM and only used about 30%.

are you happening to use iCUE from Corsair? That software has been having known issues recently. Noticed similar issues in WoW and other games, but had to do with iCUE AIO when controlling the Corsair AIO water pump and fans

I had this same problem. Running the registry edit from Nvidia to disable the MPO and restarting the computer fixed it for me. I cant post links, but if you search for this Nvidia article " After updating to NVIDIA Game Ready Driver 461.09 or newer, some desktop apps may flicker or stutter when resizing the window on some PC configurations" it will have the already prepared registry edits to disable or re-enable MPO.

There have been a few posts about this issue. What worked for me was a combination of solutions provided by other people in another thread here on the official forums - Game is freezing when I alt tab - #26 by Pazzik-daggerspine is my thank you post for their help.

The short version is disabling Hardware Acceleration in other running applications (Discord, Battle.net app, Web Browser, etc) and setting Max Background FPS to exactly match the Max Foreground FPS setting in game.

That said, this MPO fix also looks solid - especially for anyone who can’t disable Hardware Acceleration in other running applications. I’ll edit in a link to it in the other thread. Thanks.
