Game freezes, chat works, wont log off

Edit: 2 days and no response. Anyone got any ideas?

Hello,

I have been dealing with this for several days. I am able to play for about 5-10 mins before the game freezes. Chat (world, personal, etc) all still works but all game NPCs are frozen, cannot interact, players are frozen. The game also will not let me log out and I must force a log off with Task Manager.

Here is the WinMTR.

Hey Miwok,

Based on what you’re describing it sounds like the World connection is cutting out while your Home connection remains intact. Home is responsible for chat and World is responsible for NPC/mob movements and spells and abilities. There’s more info on Home vs World here if you’re interested.

The WinMTR shows some minor packet loss starting on the 2nd “hop” at 96.120.94.37

If you’re using a wireless connection try switching to ethernet if you can. World connection dropping out is commonly caused by blips in the wifi. If you’re already wired make sure you don’t have any background processes running that are using the network connection while playing.

If you’re still having issues run a new WinMTR to 24.105.62.129 for about 20 minutes and post the results.

Jambrix thank you! I am on ethernet…I run a cable from my Comcast gateway to my desktop. Just don’t trust wireless.

I am still having the issue but I notice it is only happening in cities. I can go outside the cities and quest for hours with no issue…the second I go back to Org or Boralus within 5-10 mins tops…it glitches out that world connection you talked about.

I appreciate the response and will look into it more!

Hey there Miwok! Thanks for taking the time to update us on your findings. That packet loss Jambrix pointed out is very likely to be the cause of the problems here, and you could quickly verify this by setting up a temporary mobile tether via USB to switch to the mobile network. A mobile hotspot will work if tethering is not an option. Once the tether or hotspot is setup, switch to the mobile network and retest (please be sure that your phone’s wifi is toggled off if you are using the hotspot option).

If you have no issues when using the mobile network, this would confirm that the issue is isolated to the network that you are currently using. If this is the case, ultimately we can only recommend contacting the ISP for assistance determining what is causing the issue to occur on the home network. They may adjust specific security/firewall settings on your modem or temporarily replace the device to narrow it down further. Keep in mind that you can request to speak with a “level 2 or level 3 technician” when contacting the ISP, as the front-line representatives typically only have access to basic diagnostics and troubleshooting tools.

I hope this information helps get you back to playing smoothly!
