My game has been having instances where I will freeze and my resolution will change to a strange number. I run the game on 1440p for instance, and when it freezes my resolution will be 2560x1421. Last night it froze mid raid and changed to 2468x1400. I’ve tried to scan and repair at least 3 times so far to no success. This was never an issue back in Dragonflight.
Wow is stored on my SSD and I am using a 2080 Super gpu. Fully updated. CPU is an i9-9900k if that matters.

Your GPU driver is likely crashing while playing, and when it recovers, the resolution can’t set back to what it was originally at.
Clean install GPU drivers.
Would that still be the case if WoW is the only game that I experience issues with?
Yes, the GPU stopped taking instructions from the operating system. I can’t tell you why it did that, but the easiest troubleshooting is the clean install.
Similar issue here. Game freezes for about 10 seconds. As soon as it unfreeze I see the sky box and everything else load back in. Sometimes my resolution or scaling is modified.
While it’s frozen I can alt tab into other games with no issues.
I’ve tried fresh GPU drivers and a clean OS.
Also having the same issue. I have ran DDU and installed previous drivers, and they all have the same issue of the freeze and then the resolution changing from 2560 x 1440 to 2560 x 1421…exactly like the OP…which is rather specific.
I have just went through the forums from the posts starting with the pre-patch until now, and a lot of people are having the same issue.
This really should be looked at, because it only happens with WoW and no other games. Thanks.

Having this exact issue now in Cata Classic. I’ve been getting these ~5 second freezes + forced resolution changes every ~15-30min.
I’ve tried alternating between Dx11 and 12, clean installing GPU drivers, & changing the game’s priority to High via Task Manager on top of tinkering w/ different render and resample options in the menu. The only thing that appears to somewhat help is opting out of using FidelityFX Super Resolution and keeping my render scale at 100% of 1080p. Before that, I was rendering down 1080p alongside FidelityFX in an attempt to get better frames.
Same here with the resolution bugging since TWW prepatch. It never sets to the proper resolution of your monitor when you choose the specific resolution unless you put it at “default”.
Try this…
System > Display > Graphics
Turn off “Optimization for windowed games”
I think this is a result of a Windows Update coupled with a Graphics Driver Update. Several people I know have had the random resolution change, it shifts your bars all over and messes up your interface. Several posts about buttons moving right now, that I believe are the results of this bug randomly changing the game’s resolution to a bizarre setting slightly less than 1080p or 1440p… it’s like 10-15 less.
